She is such an inspiration to me. My family is from Mexico and I grew up in very conservative, white part of US. I totally get her sense of feeling different, and when I was younger I was really resentful of that. But now I realize that having that bicultural exposure is a strength, even if it means enduring years of loneliness/confusion during adolescence. Her music is so amazing, creative, unique -- ultimately a testament to how immersion to different cultures/perspectives is an asset and a beautiful thing.
