If one is not already behind, new ideas will spring up and there will not be enough time to do everything. My planting plans went awry because I have to be away from the garden to take care of a family member who had major surgery. I had ordered so many new perennials and shrubs before the surgery came up. My husband was a real hero helping me heel in what I didn't have time to plant. He has become quite good at digging trenches and "unpotting"! I am praying for some rain to keep things watered. Our spring (NY Zone 6b) has been cold and unusually dry.

Erin, it's been cold and rainy here (thank God, because we really needed rain) for the past week, but this weekend is supposed to be sunny and warm! It seems that I'm always behind where I would like to be every spring... with planting, but that's how life goes so it's okay! Have a great weekend! ~Margie😊🌷

Erin, my family built me a garden fence almost the same as yours in 10 hours on Sunday. We were all hitting it. 7 adults and 2 14 year old girls. My daughter rented a power posthole digger and we had 30 post set in concrete in 3 1/2 hours. Then the guys started installing the top and bottom cross boards and us girls followed with the 4x2 inch wire fencing. My daughter was the power staple gun operator. We only have the two gates and top boards of gate pergola to finish. Ive had the picture of your fence in my phone for almost 2 years now and my husband was watching your videos several times the day before the build to get different views so he could figure out exactly what I wanted. My husband said that's too much... but my daughter said "mom, you get the materials and we will all help you build it for Mothers Day". So they did. I am so happy. I will not have the raised beds however the fence surrounds my existing 48ftx63ft garden. Love your informative gardening videos as always! Take care and happy gardening. Sharon

I love it! My husband and 2 sons built me 8 large raised beds in my 30x30’ cutting garden space last year with temp fencing due to high lumber costs last Mothers Day. They are going to put my fence and arbor up for me this year- Happy Mothers Day- best gifts ever! 🌻

Cincinnati Ohio has seen heavy rain for the last few days…which has been the days off I had to get my garden spaces ready and planted. Even with the rain, I’m 6 beds in and feel great about that. However, I still have 4 more to go and the vacation is over. 🥺
So…I’m with you, Erin. I’m grateful to have gotten done what is done, but I’m always behind. 😖

Holy cow! It’s been raining, freezing cold and miserable in SE Wisconsin! I’m about 40 miles south of you right on Lake Michigan and I look for signs of life daily in my perennial garden.brrrrr….I grow my vegetables in containers on my rooftop deck and all I can do is look at the bags of soil amendments and hope it’ll warm up soon. Seeing you plant lettuce, peas, kale and onions in your raised beds is a go ahead sign for me. 👍

5A, western Massachusetts here; I too planted my sweet peas today! I have to get those root trainers.. my poor peas were tortured when I pulled them out of the tray I planted them in! Fingers crossed. I am also giving ranunculus a go; I understand they can be a real challenge. There is a marvelous nursery in Red Hook NY that grows ranunculus and anemones, in cold glass houses. It's a treat to go in March, when everything is deadly, and see the long beds of flowers in bloom! Great video as always!!!

I am in zone 5b, Upstate NY, and it has refused to warm up until like today. We are on a mountain top, so the temps at night were in 30s until this week. I'm hoping to get something, anything, done this weekend. Crossing fingers, toes, saying a Novena... You get the picture 🤣

Erin, love your videos, they’re so real, and you crack me up too, which is a bonus, it’s been miserable here in Ontario zone 6b and it is finally warming up, the bonus when it’s crummy out, you don’t have black flies and mosquitoes to deal with as you get your garden beds ready for planting . Keep up the great job, I’ve subscribed and have told all my gardening buddies to follow you too 🌿🙂🦋

The weather is so much colder than last year. That resulted in leggy tomatoes, really really leggy. I up-potted and buried the stems deep once already. Still no sign of warming up enough to take outside. I realized today something is snacking on my spinach, probably slugs and snails. I picked and ate my first strawberry last night. My peppers look fantastic in the greenhouse.

I am in Zone 6a Massachusetts and I have started many more flower seeds than I ever had before. I can't wait to see how they take! I've just been able to put most of the frost hardy ones out! I always feel as though I am behind too. We are attempting to do a good portion of my veggie garden in pots this year due to the AJW infestation, so fingers crossed!! We have garlic, onions and leeks in the raised beds, as we haven't seen any damage to the alliums from the worms. Thank you for the content. My sweet peas are actually coming up this year (mostly because I planted them in a pot where the bunnies can't get them). So far they are actually about 3-4 inches tall.

I felt pretty on track with my seed starting, planting out cold weather crops, perennials etc. It has been cold way longer than normal. Now....it is warming up, and warming up fast. it has been 50 degrees and next week will be 80..... So everything in my garden is exploding, and I am suddenly WAY behind. Tulips need to be harvested, raised beds need to be built, my potatoes should have been in a month ago AT LEAST, and dang.....I just cant get it all done. Working nights, away from home (travel nurse) has really cut into my dirt time. I WAS super productive today, and got most of the "spring-itch-impulse-plant-buys" into the ground. They have been sitting on my front stairs since late March. But my veggie situation is less than optimal. Granted, my cukes, tomatoes and peppers are growing quite nicely indoors, but all my lettuce, radishes, carrots, onions, etc are slow growing OR not even out of the seed packet yet. I need to catch up, because very soon it will be dahlia planting time, and with about 350 cultivars to get into the ground, Im going to be a busy lady. Especially since my doggo has decided she is a big fan of Coast of Maine compost. UGH.

Always later...I never plant anything until after May long, that weekend is notorious for cold weather...sometimes snow.
I'm in zone 3 Northern Alberta, Canada and right now we are getting snow and winds. It's not cold at 1 above(34), but woke up to snow on the ground. It has been cold and wet(rain mostly) the last month.
I have started lots of seeds in the winter sowing method, 1 mth ago we had 62 degrees my lettuce sprouted then a few days later we had -20(below zero) and froze everything. I just hope I have some seeds that hadn't sprouted left.
Erin, you are wayyyy ahead of the game! lol

@@shellisspace I have put lettuce where they get morning sun n shade the rest of the day. It works for the most part. I succession sow it. Because just the hot temps make it bolt. But if you use a shade cloth also that helps tremendously.

Everything's behind here in Minneapolis. I have some tulips starting to form buds and my redbud tree (which usually blooms simultaneously with said tulips) have itty bitty nubs that will one day be buds. The hydrangeas and roses look dead. I know they're still sleeping.
I've been working on my raised beds. I bought the resin forms several years ago. For years that area was overrun with quack grass and the evil weed with the white carrot roots (Campanula family). Some new weeds started and I got them dug while they're immature. I'm in the process of digging a trench along neighbors' chain link fence and lining with fabric so quack grass can't jump into my soil again. I placed paper grocery bags in the raised bed forms and added some garden waste to take up space. I'll pick up some manure and soil soon. I want to get my veggies planted and out of my house! Everything is so stretched despite having them under grow lights.
Your starts look amazing. My experiment was a fail and I'll be direct-sowing lettuce seeds.

I'm in Arizona zone 9 and we're already well into summer gardens, it's supposed to be 100 degrees on Saturday. I bought some fine mesh drawstring bags off of Amazon to protect my herbs from the cabbage loopers and other caterpillars as they killed my 3 year old thyme plant last summer. I'm going to wait until July to start tomatoes this year as keeping them alive through 105-120 degree heat is a lot of work for little reward as I'm in an apartment and have to carry water out to the plants.

My problem isn't usually planting late my problem is that I've started the seeds too early and everything has gotten root bound and so they get really badly transplant shocked. And then by the time they recover from that It's like a plane to dim light because they just sit there for so long in the garden not doing anything... So this year I tried very hard do not plant plant any seeds too early! And the only thing that has went in the ground the ground from being root bound has been because I either had to wait for my husband to help me put in support support or because of not being able to plant due to weather... 👏 So I'm feeling pretty proud of myself about that! 🤣 So I'm behind but not nearly as bad as previous year!

I'm in the west suburbs of Chicago - zone 5B like you. This spring I put in several new metal raised beds along with two new "U" shaped wood raised beds. I started most everything from seed too, but it just seems some starts have struggled, even under lights and in bright western exposure windows. I am so uncertain when it's ok to get things outside because it's been so cold and rainy. I have planted onions outside now, and today herbs in the Greenstalk (not Basil yet) and have strawberries and lots of lettuce/greens in two other Greenstalks going. I don't know if I should start beans and the peas I put out are struggling. I think this is a giant work in progress for me of learning.

And yes, I always feel like I'm behind too!!! ❤❤❤

I'm behind on everything vegetable. I'm behind on all seed starting. And for the first year I'm almost on time planting in my flower beds. Whoot whoot! 😂

In 8b Austin, TX, my lettuce is getting ready to bolt in 90 degree weather. My 1st dahlias have sprouted and I'm anxiously waiting for others in pots. It's wonderful now, but July to October are the down time. I imagine my plants reproach me as I disappear into air-conditioned coolness. I still have seeds sprouting outdoors because I don't have a setup to start them inside. The zinnias have sprouted and I hope to have cut flowers soon. Until then there is Trader Joe's.

We have been having very similar weather and I can’t believe you’re doing all this planting! I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada and I am SO behind right now. Last year this time my tulips were blooming and this year they are now just starting to set buds. I have so many perennials started from seed that I want to get out but I refuse to do it until the night temperatures are above freezing at night which has not happened yet. Gads! Can you sweet talk Mother Nature for me?

Just went through last year's gardening journal and am definitely behind. I think I'm still in "winter mode" with all this dark, wet, cool weather. Can't wait for brighter, warmer days. 🌞🌱🌾

I am using your vegetable garden videos to time my plantings as well. I’m in 5b so what works for you should work for me. I feel like I should have planted lettuce a month ago. I do feel behind. It seems it’s cold and rainy then warm (on a day that’s full of career stuff) then back to cold. Thank you for your videos and the time it takes to film, edit and post. I enjoy and refer back to them often. Happy Spring

I'm in Zone 3b, it's been pretty warm here during the day so a lot my plants I started inside have been spending there days out in the shady deck with morning sun and I'm hoping the last below freezing night is within this week :) So I'm excited to start direct seeding some things in the weeks couple weeks here. Thank you for sharing your progress I'm excited to get out there and get some things done.

I’m definitely part of the “always late to plant” club! Have winter sown snap peas about to be put in a big pot placed in a flower bed. Haven’t grown them in a container before. This will be fun.

Pacific Northwest is a few weeks behind at least for getting stuff in the ground. Cold and rain doesn't want to leave this year. Kale, spinach lettuce, radishes, collards, peas and other greens are doing great. All warm weather crops are still inside under lights and going out for the day if we happen to get some sun 😎🌞

I'm in NW Oregon, 8b. I planted my cool weather crops during spring break, last week of March, I have the week off and have time. I start the brassicas inside and transplant out (never harden off, too impatient, they are always fine). I planted onion starts and all my greens and peas from seed. Just waiting for the sun to come out, (so much rain!) so I can plant out the tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, and squashes.

Hi from South Dakota, Zone 4b. It's been such a cool spring so far. Got potatoes, onions, peas, lettuce, Swiss Chard and radishes planted but nothing growing except the onions. Perennials so slow to poke their noses out. C'mon already! Love your videos, Erin! Bought a Shiitaki mushroom farm for my husband for very early Father's Day gift after seeing yours. How cool and delicious!

I think we are slightly ahead this year. We planted garlic last fall, and it is doing well. Also planted onions a few weeks ago, and they are coming up and looking good. This is the earliest we have ever planted our onions. I still have not planted our radishes or lettuce, but we live in the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania, Zone 6a, so many things will have to wait awhile yet. Love watching your videos and have learned much from you.

Zone 6b here. I think my daffodils are lasting longer due to the cooler temps as well as some of my early spring perennials. Just waiting to plant all of my warm weather annuals...

Great video! I always find your videos helpful. Oh I’m behind for our KS zone. Had to wait for hubby to put together my raised beds, waiting for help removing these large landscape rocks out of flower beds to plant tomatoes and peppers. It’s a process for sure. This is my first year growing a garden so trying not to be too hard on myself. It is driving me crazy to be behind getting vegetables in the raised beds. My aunt had hers planted probably 3 weeks ago, granted she’s a seasoned gardener kind of a type a farm lady. Oh and realizing how much soil and compost costs to fill these beds, good grief. 🧐🙃 It’s expensive. It will be so rewarding once it’s all filling in looking beautiful. I’m really looking forward to seeing your beautiful garden this summer. Such an inspiration. Take care.

California 9b reporting in. I’ve got tomatoes coming out of my ears and all my zinnias and cucumber plants are being eaten by roof rats. Such a strange year. Yay for tomatoes? Oh! And my Jan direct sown sweet peas finally bloomed yesterday! So exciting, but they don’t seem to have a scent which was a total bummer. I though I chose the right ones. :(

Zone 6 SE Michigan. Johnny’s sent my Patterson onion starts a month ago, so I bought a raised bed planter for them. I had to cover them at night a lot but they gave definitely grown. Our community garden just got plowed 2 days ago so I plan on planting this weekend. I don’t see any freezing temps at night next week 🤞🏻. Great video ☺️

We’ve scratched and clawed our way into the low 60s here in the last week or so, and next week we’re in the 80s! (Indiana 5b) I always feel behind too, but I got my sweet peas in about ten days ago, and I’ve got lettuce, radishes and carrots going as well. I direct sowed kohlrabi, which I was excited about, but promptly forgot it was there and planted my sweet peas on top of it. 😂

I am growing sweet Peas for the first time this year (thanks to you 🙂) I got root trainers and I planted them out recently. Inhad extras so I tried planting those a few weeks ago knowing it was a risk...and they froze🤪 I live just outside of Lake Geneva (WI) and we definitely are a good few weeks behind with our weather. I don't even have tulips in bloom yet!
