Lise Davidsen sings the title character’s Act II aria in the Live in HD transmission. Production: David McVicar. Conductor: Yannick Nézet-Séguin. 2024-25 season.
The only person being tortured in this scene is Tosca - by the ponderous, glacial conducting of YNS. He really did her no favors. Play it at 1.25x and you get basically the normal tempo.
Is the Met now “trolling” Davidsen? Third upload of her ‘Vissi d’arte’ in 12 days! Although for some reason they just removed the second one, that one was an improvement over this new one and over the first, too. This makes little sense.
Good Lord. What do you people want? Her singing was steady, the lines were clear and her tone was beautiful. And she shaped the aria in keeping with her overall portrayal of the character. You’re lucky to have heard her.
@@wotan10950They are still analyzing each and every single bruised note out of the woman’s throat for signs of something metaphysical or other that may have eluded their previous analyses. With each round new “discoveries” come to light.
@@doGreatartistsgrowontreesWhat a waste of your time. I’d spend more resources on world peace, global, inequality et al, than worrying about her vibrato.
@@wotan10950 My comment was not about Davidsen but about Callas. Anyway, let those passionate enough about fighting inequity, inequality or for world peace and such things handle those problems. I remain more interested in the vibrato and such things. 🙂
I heard her live on Saturday. She has a blazing voice with ringing high notes (attacked dead-on à la Birgit Nilsson). But she’s clearly not comfortable with the character yet. I’ve previously seen her as Jenůfa and Leonora (‘Forza’) which worked better for her. As Tosca she was too aloof, too safe.
The ‘Forza’ Leonora worked better for her? The Pace she sang this past summer at Schönbrunn did not go well and showcased the worrisome signs people describe about her singing. Among those signs was an evident shortness of breath that made it seem as if she had chewed more than she could bite. Also evident were lots of tension and the trembling jaw business.
how many times must you upload this, each recording worse than the last? what are you trying to prove, that she is somehow consistent in the fact that she is not a true tosca, and has a technique that becomes more and more unreliable with each role debut? it's almost unfair to ms. davidsen at this point
@@ingridlindquist4895well, the big issue is when the met and the other “circus” opera houses of the world continue to hire only “names” like ms davidsen, these are opportunities taken from singers who are actually capable of singing and interpreting these characters. and, with these tremendous lowering of standards, the art-form comes down with it. unfortunately it is and always was the responsibility of the audiences to say what is good and what is bad

?? the THIRD time you are uploading her crooning this aria? Bizzare! The voice is still nasal, swallowed, bad italian diction, cracked note at end, etc..
@WilliamFrom-cg1mb it was a real excellent evening ....stage design classical and we enjoyed the performance, though I have my critical points....I am connected with opera , voices, art of singing since 50 years now and I know TOSCA quite well....we are living in Poland , by the way and one ticket will be 10 Złoty , it is around 2,50 USD
Yannick is murdering these singers with his tempi. Too slow for the musical lines to make any sense, too slow for them to be able to make any phrasing. This isn’t ideal repertoire for her and he is only making it worse.

So sad that operalovers can be so mean.
@@ingridlindquist4895 these are no opera lovers, these are bitter old opera queens who keep listening to that old record of Rosa Ponselle

Many opera fans aren’t satisfied until they bash most singers. Except Callas, of course. It’s a psychosis.

I find it more strange that you bother to complain instead of listen to the artist you prefer.
