Hi Peter, it is good to be back with more travel videos. Work commitments and travelling have kept me away from my computer for a while. I am getting used to my new camera, although editing 4K video is taxing my computer to its limits. I will cover my recent trip through Vietnam and Cambodia over the coming months. I also have a lot more video covering China, Italy and New Zealand taken over the last few years to edit and post. I will have plenty to keep me busy during the long winter evenings.
Excellent videography Tim! Watched in HD I felt as I was with you on the train. You can see the French influence in the railway infrastructure very well indeed. Many thanks. Rob.
Thank you, the French influence was to be seen everywhere in Vietnam, even some French words have been adopted, such as "Ga" meaning station, pronounced in a similar way to "Gare" in French.
Superb quality. Some beautiful views over the river. It must be difficult keeping track of where you are with all these Dong Has and Dong Hais and Hua Dongs. There seems an awful lot of dongs.
I was a fantastic adventure, I found it amazing how well the country had recovered from the recent war. It's Christmas day now, so here's to wishing you a Merry Christmas and a fun packed New Year. Tim.
Thank you for this video. I am from the Philippines and planning our North to Soith Vietnam trip as early as now and hopefully will be crossing boarders to Cambodia and Bangkok. Really big help, i am thinking whether to take a train or plane going to Hue and Ho chi minh.
Hello, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. It's worth taking the train, that way you get to see the countryside and it's not too expensive. I hope you have a wonderful time, I loved Vietnam and Cambodia.
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Wish I did live in New Zealand, can't persuade my wife to move there, fortunately I am lucky to visit regularly to see my son who emigrated there almost 15 years ago. I live in the UK, but no complaints, it's a great place to live as well.
Tim, thank you for the excellent videos. I have a suggestion: Before filming, use a napkin and window cleaner to clean the smudges on the glasses. Thks.
Hi, it's good advice, I usually have a cloth with me to clean the windows. On this occasion the window I filmed through was away from the platform, so it was difficult to reach and our journey started in darkness. I had hoped to open a window to film from, but the the train staff would not allow it. If I was to do the trip again, I would opt to travel in a local train made up of old carriages with opening windows and no air conditioning.
Hi, I enjoyed my visit to Vietnam and I think the train is the best way to see the countryside and meet people. I would like to return one day to film the railway between Hanoi and Halong Bay.
Hi, I'm not sure when I will next visit Vietnam, it will not be this year, as I have used all my holidays. I had such a great time visiting Ha Noi and Halong Bay, I hope to return soon. It would be nice to meet and maybe take a train ride. Your English is good, do you study it at school?
Hi Tim... wonderful video! Really incredible sights on this journey. Can you tell me were you in one of the standard Vietnam Railways carriages? Or one of the Livitrans or Violette operated ones? Thanks! Matt
Hi Matthew, taking the train is one of the best ways to see Vietnam. The trains are not fast, but the seats in soft seat class are comfortable and the sleeping cars are reasonably good. We travelled on four trains and they were all made up from standard Vietnam Railway coaches. The only problem was that some windows have adverts on them which severely restricts the view.
Tim is back & with a ultra HD video! Nice shots and impressive 4K camera!

As always great pics and the right background music. As always a pleasure to watch. Heinz
Hello Heinz, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. there is a reasonable degree of religious freedom, so the church could well be Christian.

Thankfully "Google Earth" is there to give me a helping hand, because sometimes I have no idea where I am.
the 2 thumbs down voters are DEFINITELY dongs!

What a superb experience Tim. So good to be able to see where you traveled. To think what this place used to be like not all that long ago.

Hello Tim from NZ, very interesting and enjoyable video. I some times wonder how did we watch video before HD; the clarity is truly amazing.
