1. Night at the Village Vanguard - Sonny Rollins, 2. My Favourite Things - John Coltrane, 3. Modern Lore - Julian Lage. No particular order, just three I would include in my top 10. Most of your ten would be on my list too.
Musical mind openers to me: 1 Escalator over the Hill - Carla Bley, Paul Haines, The Jazz Composers Orchestra 2 I am here You are there - Keith Tippet Group 3 Ballads - Derek Bailey and ONE more: Voice - Julie Tippetts, Maggie Nichols, Phil Minton, Brian Eley
Top 3 at this current moment, no particular order: Vince Guaraldi, A Charlie Brown Christmas Pat Metheny, Bright Size Life Sonny Rollins, A Night At The Village Vanguard if you can't tell I love trios!
Thanks: as a Dutchie two Dutch bands and a German. The Ploctones: legendary Dutch ensemble with Anton Goudsmit on guitar. Eric Vloeimans is a legendary trumpet player. And Tobias Hoffmann is a master on his jazz master. Have fun!
Hey Rotem, inspiring vid especially Tigran Hamasyan Mockroot Three Albums inspired me. Cité de la musique - Dino Saluzzi Together - Robert Wolf Thimar- Anouar Brahem thank you for your great content, it changed my way exercising guitar and listen to music
My favorites are Black Saint and the Sinner Lady by Mingus, Ptah the El Daoud by Alice Coltrane, and View with a Room by Julian Lage. I will check out these albums on your list that I haven’t heard!
Top three. Damn thats hard as shit. I want to give you some teally original stuff but if im saying the ones that i can get down woth whenever wherever. 3. Coltrane: transition. 2. Miles: kind of blue. 1. Coltrane: sun ship
My favorite jazz album is 8:30, Weather Report. The song 'A Remark You Made' is the song that puts this album over the top; the interaction between Joe, Wayne, and Jaco is incredible.
My favorite jazz transcends jazz, the spiritual stuff Trane epitomizes, Albert Ayler is SUPER slept on 😴 I find myself having a different opinion THIS list is so MUSICAL, you have a MUSICAL sense of jazz But what I love in jazz is the transcendence of Trane, Ayler, Pharoah, Ornette Coleman, Mingus, Dolphy, Collier, even funnily Sun Ra But I love the sheer musicianship of thelonius and Marc Ribot, Miles, Jaco, Bill Evans, Parker, Wes
My personal favourite jazz album is a bit of an odd choice. It's We Want Miles by Miles Davis. It's a live album from the early 80s that just blows me away. If you haven't listened to it I absolutely recommend Jean Pierre (make sure it's the full 10 minute version not the 3 minute one). Some of my other favourites stem more into jazz fusion but. In A Silent Way - Miles Davis Bitches Brew - Miles Davis From Nothingness To Eternity - Mahavishnu Orchestra And here's two that I don't know if they count. Mingus - Joni Mitchell (it's mostly comprised of her singing over music given to her by Mingus himself) The Next Twentieth Century - Father John Misty (it's like 20's big band jazz with vocals, except the last song, which is my favourite as it's most like his normal material, but it is a very good album)
Herbie Nichols- complete blue note recordings: my favorite jazz composer as well as an incredible pianist Wes Montgomery-live at Tsubo’s-full house Thelonious Monk plays aellington
discover new music?? lots of very interesting new jazz coming from UK at the moment! and for many years the Nordic Countries gave us lots of great music !!
It's hard to call three albums "top," so I'll pick one that's a compilation. * The Jazz Masters: 20 recordings from the Columbia Jazz Masterpieces * Clifford Brown - Study in Brown * Clark Terry/Bob Brookmeyer - The Power of Positive Swinging * Bonus #1: Mulgrew Miller - Wingspan And of course that's about ten too few. I have most of your top ten also :-)
People who dont play an instrument aren’t going to like Coltrane let’s be real or “bebop” for that matter. They’ll listen to swing. But listening to abunch dudes just fill it up isn’t that attractive for listeners. You might like it as a musical exercise. But that’s about it.
@@MrSteviethegreat I like Metheny, but the only out stuff I can think of from Pat is Zero Tolerance, and his participation on Sign of Four with Derek Bailey. Song X… maybe. That’s probably less than 10% of Pat’s output. Have to be honest, I don’t think Zero Tolerance is a very good album. A bit indulgent. I like free improv but this is disappointing. It always struck me as being like when classical musicians decide to ‘learn/play some jazz’. Pat playing with Derek Bailey didn’t really work. (Personal Opinion). He is a great artist though.
