- This is my Chase Freedom Unlimited Review for 2022 after having this credit card for 2 years. The Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card is one of my favorites, so I go over all of the benefits of the Freedom Unlimited Card in this video. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.
The Chase Freedom Unlimited has remained in my wallet almost every day for the past 2 years, and now in 2022, it still play a big role in my credit card strategy for everyday spending. Its a great “catch-all” credit card for miscellaneous expenses and has been one of my most used credit cards as well. But even though it can be a good card for many people, there are definitely ways to use the Chase Ultimate Rewards Points that the Freedom Unlimited earns to get more value than just cash back.
I personally think that this is just one of the average cash back credit cards available, but that’s because it really should be a travel credit card if paired the right way with the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve. So this video will go over all the Freedom Unlimited benefits while also answering “is the Chase Freedom Unlimited worth it” and for what types of credit card users.

I've had this card for about five years and the benefits have changed. It's now my main spending card again
You do a terrific job explaining about Chase Travel Partners, which is really the hidden value of the Chase cards. It's amazing how many people don't know how to use travel partners for value in travel, along with those who don't even know the benefits. For those that travel on a budget, even with a minimal to moderate income, this is the way to go. Good work Dan.
Thanks Scott! Yeah the travel partners really are the best way to use the points in my experience! My thought process has always been that I know I'm going to spend money on travel regardless of whether I use credit card points or not, so I might as well use those points to offset the cost as much as I can
Does the value of the travel you get end up being more than the dollar value of the cash back if you went that route?
I agree 100 percent, Daniel. This is my catch all card too. It never leaves my wallet. I pair it with the CSR to amp up the point value, just as you described at the end of your video. Along with my Flex, I’m proof that the Trifecta is alive and well! Lol.
Love to hear it Anthony! Yeah in your case with the CSR, that 1.5% back becomes a minimum of 2.25% back on everything if you're redeeming for travel with the CSR in the portal which is awesome! Definitely proof that the Trifecta is alive and well haha
You mentioned getting 4 CPP on some trips this year with your Chase points, what’s the best CPP you’ve ever gotten? Great video as always!
Very informational. I didn’t know these things. Thank you for your help. It is a learning curve, but more understandable each time I watch this; your explanations are clear. Kudos!
The Gold card and the CFU is the best card combination for me! I also have the CSP for reimbursed work related travel expenses (5x on Lyft, 3x on dining)
The CSP is also used for transferring points to transfer partners.
Thanks for the gem @10:51, now I understand that if I get the CFU, it essentially raises the value of all of the earning categories on the card because I hold the CSP. Thank you so much Daniel. I’ve made my decision, I’m going with the CFU. Subbed 👍🏽
Another great video! The Freedom Unlimited is currently my “catch all” card as well
Thanks Cooper, appreciate it man! Yeah its a great catch all card!
I’m planning on applying for the CFU as my first ever card once I start college. I will have about 2 years in my credit history from being an authorized user
Thank you! Needed this information.
Thanks for watching Stephanie! Happy to help, glad you liked the video
Great points Dan!
Thanks! Glad you liked it 👍
super explanation! I was wondering about the CFU and didn't know if it was a cash back card or points earning card. Wanted to transfer points to Hyatt...but looks like I would also need the CSP or CSR to do that.
Thanks! And yeah you would need the CSP or CSR to transfer points like that. I have the CSP and that's pretty much the main reason why
Hey brotha man I really have learned a lot with your videos and credit / credit cards. I wanted to ask you what do you suggest for a college credit card ? I got accepted into Cal State Long Beach and I wanted to know which one you suggest.
You should do a video on how to transfer points to travel partners most people have no clue that this is the most valuable points transfer option
Hi just found your channel, the way you explain things has help a bunch. Subscribed for more info. I do have a question regarding this card, what credit score is needed for this card?
I give it 2 months. I’ve watched Daniel go from 2000 subs to 10k in what seems to have been overnight. The quality of videos has remained exquisite. Keep up the great work!
I’m so glad you pointed out that you probably aren’t really getting 4 cpp. RUclips is full of smart people who are math savvy…until it comes to being honest about the value being gained.
No transfers ever outsize the savings of flying on a tuna can like Spirit. So those CPP values also include the comfort of better flights or hotels, not necessarily the dollar value.
Yeah that's exactly what I mean by saying that in this video! Sure I got 4 CPP "on paper" comparing the points price to the dollar price, but there's always other things to factor in like the fluctuations in prices over time and other alternative options for flying/hotel stays.
😂 lol I might have to use that line in a future video when I talk more about things like this "flying on a tuna can like Spirit" hahaha. But its very true! If people compared the cost of flying business class on a top airline vs flying a regular Spirit flight to the same destination, then they would be actually getting well below 1 CPP most likely. But many people prefer the comfort of business class - so point valuation is always going to be subjective!
Great points (pun intended)! Can’t wait to earn my own when I product change my Chase Slate card later this year.
Hahaha thanks Matthew! That's be a great product change for you!
Nice breakdown!
Thanks Haas, appreciate the support!
There’s currently a 5% back on gas up to $6000 for the 1st year. $200 bonus as well… just got an email today
Yeah that's an excellent offer out there right now for anyone that wants an easy 5% back on gas while prices are high right now! Thanks for the comment @QuelStylz !
Wish they would make it for all customers, not just first years. I have a Amex that gets me 5% on gas that currently use and freedom for everything else.
Just got approved and my 1st chase credit card really excited for unlimited 🤗
The CFU is my daily driver card because of the 5% grocery (1st year) and sometime I shop at Costco I get 1.5x. Kinda sad I use the CFU more than my CSP.
Wow such an amazing job explaining. I hope this is not a dumb question, but could chase potentially make it, that you can't transfer your points towards a chase preferred card thus not getting that extra for traveling?
Thanks Josh! So I guess they technically could change the rules at any time and do something like that - but they would lose a ton of customer loyalty and trust if they did. So I doubt a change like that would happen but who knows haha
I just got approved for the freedom unlimited. How long should I wait before getting another chase card? I'm under the 5/24 rule. Should I get the flex next or sapphire?
It's interesting, but from those that I talk to about credit cards, it seems like unless one has the traditional Chase Trifecta, older people tend to prefer the Unlimited and younger people tend to prefer the Freedom Flex (including me). I just don't quite see how the extra 0.5x brings too much value, at least not to my wallet and I have other cards that provide a better baseline.
The fact that this card is a Visa issuance though is important, especially if one shops at Costco since the Flex is a Master Card and that's not accepted there.
Great commentary as usual Danny. You're doing great.
The chase trifecta is considered the best if not the 2nd best out there, up there with American express. So the 1.5% base is better than the 1 percent you'd get with any other chase card. The double cash is great, but the citi trifecta as a hole is lacking to me. Most other 2x cards are lacking in redemption options, categories with higher %, or pair cards from the same issuer. Though I hear the U.S. Bank trifecta may be coming along with great benefits.
Yeah the extra 0.5% isn't much but the real value is all in how I redeem that extra earning that I get. And I agree, it seems like many younger people and people new to the credit card world do prefer the Flex a lot! I personally like the Flex more too but all Chase Trifecta cards are great!
really depends. if you dont make use of the rotating categories half of the time(st the right time) out of they year then the unlimited would probably just be much better.
Good content bro.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear you like it!
I prefer the cash. Cold. Hard. Cash. But I will be moving on from the FU to cards that pay 2% and cards that allow you to choose reward categories.
I just got approved for the Chase Ink Business Unlimited so I’ll save my slot for the CFU after I’ve got other Ink cards. Right now I’m at 3/24
can you talk about the recent Hyatt points devaluation?
I haven't booked a flight or hotel since COVID and so the Unlimited card is the only card I still keep.
I got a trip planned from California too Miami, is the sapphire or any other card the best pair? 😅
I got the old Freedom card back in 2014 and just recently got the Sapphire Preferred. Now that I've hit my welcome bonus offer, I'll be looking to get the Freedom Unlimited to finish off my trifecta! Your videos have been very helpful!
Regarding the old Freedom card, would love to see a video comparing it to the newer version, Freedom Flex. Should I upgrade my old Freedom to the Freedom Flex? Should I keep my old Freedom and consider applying for the Flex separately in the future? Do I need the Flex at all if I have the older Freedom? Hope to hear your incites soon!
Freedom flex is a must. 5% cashback on very commonly spent on categories. Considering that most of chases 5x categories are just travel, to be able to get 5x quarterly on target, walmart, gyms, gas, groceries will really boost your points fast. It also has the similar 3x categories so you can switch between the unlimited and flex for dining and drug store purchases to keep your balance % down.
I dont recall what the original freedom perks were, but if any of them stand out above these 2's perks, then it'd be best to keep it and start a quadfecta, you'd rack up points faster than most new chase trifecta owners.
I'm in the same position. Thinking of upgrading my old freedom card
if you are looking for just around US travel chase might be make sense for you but if you are talking about all in one the most every day purchase including international in my experience Amex and Citi
I have had only one credit card and just got the Freedom Unlimited. Would you say this is a good choice for beginners?
Do you still get 3x points on dining after 15 months? Or does it turn to a normal 1.5x card?
I have this card and looking to getting the preferred or should I go with amex gold
What services or things should I use the Unlimited and when to use the Preferred to get the most out of points accruals and transfers?
Got CFU a month ago; my first in Chase’s ecosystem. I garden forever to be under 5/24. It’s my second best card behind my Amex Blue Cash Preferred.
Yeah I was glad to hear that you got it! It takes patience for getting under 5/24 so glad that you were able to make it work. Thanks as always for watching and commenting here! 👍

I plan getting that credit card only for Costco (since Costco accepts Visa credit cards) and gas purchases when I get my Ford F-150 Hybrid truck next summer
Just moved to Miami and if you’ve never been you’ll love it. Tons to do!
Awesome, yeah I've heard many great things about it and can't wait to go! The trip was supposed to be a few weeks ago but had to cancel and change last minute because the weather was going to be bad haha
California is the place too 💰💳💵😍
Is it easy to open a joint account for this credit card? One of us has good credit but low income and the other has a high income but low credit
Hey I just found your video and now watch it daily hehehehe nice video. I have a question want to get iphone and a new chase credit card with a good welcome bonus. I dont have an chase card yet. I want to have a chase trifecta too soon.
That's great to hear, thanks so much for watching my videos! There's some great chase credit cards - I think a no annual fee one is always best to start with Chase. Like this Freedom Unlimited card or the Freedom Flex card
@@Daniel_Braun Thank you I will look in to applying it soon
I don't want a travel card for catch all so I have AmEx with 2% cash back. I know this card isn't really travel, but the value is through travel.
So I just got approved for this card with a 4K credit limit but for some reason I didn’t get the 0% apr??? I have a great credit and great payment history also they already approved me before I even applied
Love the CFU
One of my favorites for everyday use over the past 2 years!
Thank you
Hey, i just hear you were in Puerto Rico, i am from there.. just want to know how was it, do you like it?
Yeah I was down there back in early March and absolutely loved it! Stayed at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico which was beautiful. We did some zip lining as well which had some cool sights and got to try one of the bioluminescent bays (unfortunately it wasn't as bright that night). Overall I definitely plan to go back and probably try staying is San Juan next time!
This card is my go to wherever my Amex Gold and Platinum won’t be taken.
Yeah its great because this is a Visa card so its very widely accepted!
Is this card good to build credit?
I just applied for this credit card about an hour ago and got approved. I mainly decided to apply for it because my current credit card does not give any sort of rewards of cash back or anything of the sort.
Nice, congrats on the new card!
It's my everyday card. When I am not getting 5 percent. Chase trifecta with Hyatt.
I have a checking and savings account with chase bank for over 10 years now😍👍
Can you get the welcome bonus again on the chase freedom card?
I just got approved for the Chase Freedom Unlimited!
After not having a credit card for 6 years being in between jobs, the CFU is now my oldest credit card back in June of 2021 now since my oldest one from citi cards opened back in May of 2000 at 20 years old was closed due to inactivity. Luckily for me, it was closed at 100% payment history and it stays on my report for 7-10 years. I will not repeat the same mistake twice.
This man its just goated thanks to him i got my Chase flex…. I’ve also had this credit card for 2 years and its great !
Thanks so much, I love to hear that! Congrats on the new Flex card 👍
I had a question that has been bothering me.. I know it tells you 5% cash back on travel through the chase portal. So does that mean I’m not getting that 5% cash back when I use the card but I purchased a flight on the southwest app? Can you clear that up for me :/
Yes that’s right. Got a cfu card back in July and found that out pretty quick.
Daniel have you ever tried to “churn” your CFU to get a new SUB?
Do I have to activate this benefits? Like 5% on travel and all that or is it automatically activated?
Nope! The benefits are automatically applied when you use the card
What are good starter cards
I just got CFF card and finished their sign up bonus, where do I see the $200 from?
It's get deposited into your account as 20,000 Ultimate Rewards Points within the next month or so. Then if you want to turn that into cash back, you can easily convert those 20,000 points into $200 within your account
Quick question: What is considered in Dining? What if I go to a restaurant at 12pm or at 9pm?
So pretty much anything can be considered dining from fast food to sit down restaurants and even many coffee shops. It all depends on how they code so sometimes it takes a little trial and error to figure out what will or will not be considered dining. But in my experience most places that serve food will count
Applied in branch for this card and got 25,000 offer instead.
Nice! Yeah there's been several bonus offers out there over the past few months so smart idea going in branch for that
will be 4/24 in may, seriously thinking about applying for the CFU or CIU.
I just got approved for this card 🙌
Yeah same here I’m getting it next week
I did too they told me my card would be here in 3-5 days 4 days ago😭😭
Me too I got approved too I’m waiting for my new card 5 to 7 work days they said😍
can you still earn point if you book hotel outside chase portal?
It's only 1.5x points on all other purchases, so that's what it would be outside of the Chase portal
lol I just got approved as a 19 year old college freshman. Hopefully this is a great card for me!
This is my first credit card how fast can I get my credit score to a 700 in your opinion
This might be a silly question. I currently have the freedom unlimited card and hope to open a sapphire preferred card in a couple of months. I’ve seen a lot of people talk about the power of the trifecta. Here’s my question: are UR points worth more when redemption through the preferred card. I understand the logic of wanting to combine points together, but there is a travel portal on my unlimited card. Are those same number of points worth more if I transfer to a preferred account? Or is it just the fact that you can transfer those point even further to outside partner programs? I feel like I’m missing something. As an example, would 1000 points spent in the travel portal of the preferred card get me farther than 1000 points spent in the unlimited travel portal?
Hey Nikki, to keep it short and answer your example - yes that’s exactly how it would work. With the unlimited, 1000 points can be redeemed for $100 worth of travel in the Chase portal and you can’t transfer to travel partners. But with the Sapphire Preferred, 1000 points can be redeemed for $125 worth of travel or transferred to 1,000 points/miles with another travel partner like Hyatt where you can get potentially $200 or more of value there (depending on the booking and a number of factors).
So yeah combining points in the Trifecta is only valuable because of the features on the Preferred for redeeming points which is why I love that card so much! Hope that helps 👍
@@Daniel_Braun thanks a bunch! Appreciate the quick response.
,
Happy to help!
Hello, new to credit cards and have 30k points so far, I see options to redeem for Amazon gift cards, how does that work exactly? Once I use the points are they something I'll be charged for using later? Or are points just something I can use consequence free?
The points redeem to pay for the amazon purchase at checkout but its not a good use of points since its only 0.8 cents per point in value. I'll have a video out next week about some ways to redeem Chase points and how that works!
Can you use this card internationally?
Yeah but he said there's a 3 percent foreign transaction fee
Your videos are very helpful, however I don't think it's necessary to speed speak with breathing.
I just got this card not more than 20 minutes ago. I'll wait for awhile before I apply for the Preferred. PSU beat Ohio today my friend
Nice, congrats on the new card! And I watched some of that game - definitely a good start to the year for PSU, hopefully they can handle a tough game at Auburn next week!
Hey Daniel I just got that freedom unlimited card around two weeks ago, my wife got the Bonvoy card from them around the same time.
I was wondering could she add me to her card as an addition user, or is it too soon. Thanks man
Just got approved for it last week and received the card yesterday, itsa nice.
Is the dining on any food place or just what is on chase?
im just tryna build my credit lmao cuz I never owned a credit card before.
Okay so I have a question, it’s 0 percent apr, and I just got it, but when I go on my chase app to check, it says 24%, why is that ? Someone please help
I was confused too. Although it said I had APR % after a week it adjusted itself to 0% APR.
First 15 months should be 0% APR.
After getting the Sapphire Reserve, I was advised to downgrade from my Chase Sapphire Preferred to the Chase Freedom card. Would it have been better to downgrade to the Chase Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex? I spend 95% of my money on travel and dining.
based on your spending i think the sapphire cards wouldve been ur best option since u had a lot of spending on travel and dining! but in terms of freedom cards, i think unlimited would been great.
You should downgrade to the original freedom so that you can get signup bonus when applying for CFF or CFU.
@@NAMERICA is the original freedom still an option? Its discontinued
Like Justin said above me, the unlimited would be your bet if you needed to downgrade (though the sapphires would be your best option for your spending). 5x on travel, 3x on dining, and in case anything doesn't fall under those categories, you still get 1.5x instead of the 1x the freedom gives as a base.
@@Tu_Padre31 It's only available for downgrade/ product change, not for public application anymore.
How much of my limit should I spend every month
Same question here!
I’d keep it below 10%!

What job do you have? if you don’t mind the question, aside from RUclips
I've worked a couple of financial analyst jobs over the past few years, but the majority of my time is spent on some of my own projects now - mainly this RUclips channel!
@@Daniel_Braun no way! That’s what I’m going to school for! Any input on how it was like? I’m sure making RUclips a full time job is way more relaxing and fun since it’s at your own time
Awesome! Yeah I majored in finance in college. RUclips is definitely more work now that it’s basically full time but it’s also on my own time which I really like a lot! But any area of finance is great for work. I personally worked finance jobs that didn’t require much more than 40 hours per week so I’d say that’s a good thing to look for to have work life balance. But most of it you just figure out as you go. Luckily there’s a lot of demand for new talent so you’ll be in a good spot!
@@Daniel_Braun yes! I’m almost done with my bachelor in finance, and then if I get to start FA I’ll go for a masters. Did you work at banks?

Chase is a bank owned by a credit card company,Been doing my banking with chase for 25 years.A few years back one of the tellers said we have card for you .They gave me a chase freedom card credit limit was 1300.00, My credit score is an 802, Got a discover card credit limit 12000.00 Chase cards are a joke ,don't waste your time on these BS chase cards !
I got pre approved for this card. I have a good credit score but I see no point in having this. I watched this video to try and convince me otherwise.
Traveling is a giant waste of money as it is, and you still have to pay taxes on most purchases. If you don’t like traveling then please stop funding these cancerous banks.
Save your money and avoid credit cards. Im not sure why everyone is so exited about spending money that isn’t theirs. Kind of sad imo
The sound effects in your video are extremely unnecessary and annoying.
