Hayley, just a tip for you. If you have trouble working out how much room you have behind. Put a stick down in line with the back of your truck, then get back in again and look at the side of your truck, and see if there are points you can focus on that would line up perfectly with the stick. This can be very handy at the start. You'll get used to working out lengths with experience as with everything else
I only passed my class 2 last year and i remember one job where i had to drive back from Keswick (Cumbria) to Cornwall (400 mile) took me 8 hours and 40 minutes. Had a grin on my face all the way back, was so nice! I know what you mean by getting paid to sightsee

Hi Hayley....had my first lesson today.....kinda bricking it abit but all went ok to be honest.....didn't kill anybody lol.....need to work on my roundabouts and use the left mirror more so I don't mount the kerb but all in all I did ok according the him.....think I was abit quick on occasion too..it did rain all day which didn't help.....Got another tomorrow again so I should be abit more confident.... looking forward to your next vid...….Mark
Hi Haley, I live near Rhyl in North Wales, the place you went to is almost on the English border, I'm surprised you went through Wrexham, I am retired now but used to go to Birmingham using the A55 to M56 then M6 South, it may be a longer distance but no roundabouts and duel carriageway. I like all videos it is also great to hear your chatter, I retired from Class 1 HGV 17 years ago. Very best regards from Ray in North Wales.

I prefer the A roads though, the motorways are boring and the M6 is full of roadworks. Glad you like the videos and my chatter... I think I ramble on too much sometimes though, haha
Morning Hayley, it really is the best job in the world isn’t it? Freedom, sightseeing and so many different characters to meet. Have you thought about taking a coat hanger with you and hanging it on those things on the ceiling behind you. Also, reference getting out of the seat, I always undo my boots when driving and have them really loose. Two reasons: a) my feet seem to swell up when sitting with my boots done up for a long time and b) you can easily slip them off and hop up on to your seat to step on to the engine hump and hang your coat up or get to your bunk or whatever. You don't have to have class one for distance work , I do tramping in class two traveling miles , just wish they was more places to park truck and car drivers stop parking in and around loading areas .
Vids are getting better everytime well done. Ref your hands still getting dirty through your gloves, have you maybe thought about buying some of those rubber surgical type gloves and putting them underneath? Poundland sell a box of a 100 pairs for like a £1

Did i hear you say special duties at Christmas? You might need some festive lights on. You can see what a simple set up that i have at Christmas to bring a smile to the grumpy commuters faces on youtube. DAF at Christmas & MAN at christmas 2016. Keep up the great videos.
Up at 02:30, start work 4:00, drive round all day on roads where car drivers will kill themselves for 6 foot of tarmac. Go home kiss wife, walk dog, have tea and go to bed 07:30, rinse and repeat. Love it love it love it.
Really enjoy these vlogs, esp being a teacher myself and seeing the transition you've made; slightly envious! Curious to know whether the salary is anyway comparable to teaching?
Depends on what you drive, experience and what extra training you have. Also your hours, whether you do nights out, etc. I've gone down about 6k a year but hoping to get some extra training and move up. I'm doing day work, 50 hours a week. I have less money but I'm happier now :)

would of been quicker either going up the a41 junction 3 of the m54 up via Whitchurch or all way to Shrewsbury then up a49 to a41. before you ask we run daily from Deeside to Birmingham.

stephen lyle I don't think they all have limiters. When I'm on mine (55 mph) they still manage to get passed me
