Interesting video! These days all foods are processed to an extent. I keep is stupid simple:

My main concern is with foods in the "medium processed" category. While ultra processed foods are easily identifiable, there can sometimes be a subtle but very important difference in say... sausages, or whole foods derived sauces. That's where things get tricky.

Brilliant video, superbly presented in a rational way. If ultra processed foods weren't bad enough on their own, it is of course, their ease of availability driving their consumption on demand snacking all day long, reducing fasting periods (non-eating periods), raising insulin leading in the end to insulin resistance.....oh dear! Diabetes (type II) and general metabolic disease.

It took me years to make an important connection the dietitian had told me that I had two choices in a restaurant poor choices and damn poor choices why she didn’t mention grocery stores as grocery stores are full of both kinds of takeout foods as well as healthy ingredients is a mystery.🙄 🌟🍀🌟💝👍👍👍👍🌟🖖🖖🖖🖖💝🌟🍀🌟🙋🏼‍♀️

Thanks for doing this. Anything with gluten or lugumes I need to avoid or I will pay the price.
I avoid soy and seed oils when possible. Make my own mayo, salad dressings, etc. I also have my own hydrator so I can dry things without add sugar and chemicals. We have apple trees and I dried a ton for my husband. He can not eat grocery store apples. Even when peeled.
I buy local when possible. Found a farmer who does not spray. Great produce.
But I also buy frozen and things in cans. I have 2 freezers. Get half a local free range pig every year. But also load up on frozen vegetables and berries when they go on sale. Happens every fall. And get beef and chicken on sale. Froze wild blueberries this year. Managed to get a lot.
But some people get so extreme when pushing healthy eating. Nothing frozen or canned. Everything must be local, fresh, organic, etc. It is all or nothing deal.
But we all live in different places, with different resources, different budgets, etc. Telling someone who lives in Nunavut that they should only eat fresh and organic produce is crazy. They are lucky to see fresh produce. Same as telling that to some family living below the poverty line.
There was a time I would not have had the time or money for some of the choices I make now. I realize that I am extremely lucky.
Your video gave people a good understanding so that they can make choices based on their life and what they can reasonably do. Even small changes can make a massive difference to health.

I seriously would love to but I cannot take the gluten out. I am waiting for celiac testing and I must have gluten daily which is hard when also trying to eat low carb. 😞. Unfortunately while I will be getting the labs done within a week my scope with Bx won’t be done until May. It’s hard to eat gluten daily while trying to not have too many carbs.

Trouble is, even when you make things yourselves - like your grandparents used to - many of the basic ingredients are now ultra processed - even though appear to be single ingredient items. I know we don’t eat breads - but ever wondered why our Breads last so long nowadays, bread from a local bakery in rural France is going stale by the afternoon, makes me wonder what it is they must be putting in our everyday flours!

Olive oil is a processed food if you want to get technical. The olive it processed for its oil. You want to eat the whole food you eat the olive. Even olive oil heathy as the claims consumed in excess is unhealthy because processing concentrates and removes the fiber, those are the main issues.

Ty the only processed food I buy is dairy, sausages, bacon, dried herbs, tea, chocolate (but the one I buy has only 3 ingredients means cocoa mass, cocoa and cocoa butter cause it is a 100% cocoa chocolate bar) and sometimes tomato paste when I have a hankering for Italian meat sauce.
Aldi has organic bacon with 0.4g added sugar per 100g and I cut the bacon in small pieces, dry it in the air fryer and use it when I cook omelette or as part of the filling for stuffed mushrooms. I also make my own version of beef jerky and other jerky only with seasoned with salt, my new food I make myself due to the high shipping costs from the US to Germany are Carnivore Crisps. I made beef crisps from 3 different cuts so far and also chicken skin crisps. I usually eat it with a dip made from 1 part cream cheese, 1 part slim quark (naturally high in protein), a splash of heavy cream to thin it a bit and salt.
The sausages and deli meat is as clean as possible here in Germany but I always read the ingredient list and how much additives aka sugar per 100g is in the produce.

Very well explained. However I think it's better to steer clear of food having ANY additives whatsoever. Politicians have their own compulsions so Governments will wait until enough people die from cancer before starting the process to ban a certain additive. Why be one of those unfortunates?

The food should be eaten closer to the source as possible and its original form. The problem is not so much about the level of processing, but the FRESHNESS of the food. If it has to go through a few channels of processing, that means that it has lost it freshness and vitality. Also when the food is not wholesome it loses the force that keeps it together, and that makes it less nutritious.
