A very attractive video. Thanks for the information how to , and a big thank you to the people behind who spent the time to bring us the best out for our machines. Bravo Jan. Amiga for Ever!!!!
Nice to see you got your HDMI and RAM issues sorted out. Yea the A600 needs a lot of help but once you get an accelerator running it will make a world of difference. Just make sure the FURIA you chose will be compatible with 3.2 the one I got was a nightmare with 3.1.4 where to get it to work I had to disable CPU Caches but later versions I am told were compatible with 3.1.4 and you could update the firmware on the older versions. OS3.2 is quite nice I have not played with it all that much but its faster to do an install on WINUAE which also gives you the opportunity to play with it before committing it to a Classic Machine and its very fast to install it off the CD be it on the PC Side or Amiga Side if you have a CD-ROM in your Amiga which I do but my preference for the past few years has been to install the OS in WINUAE where you can also move files you plan to use if you have them stored on a PC or network drive. Then you can just create an image of the card so that if you have a card failure you can create a new card and get back running. I try to make 1 card with everything I use on my different Amiga's so when I plug the card into an Amiga I just run the installation software. I am not into games but I always throw them on the card with WHDLOAD so that when my Grandkids come over for a visit they will have something to play with and they do like the old Amiga games but it may have more to do with playing them with me and when you have 5 Grand kids in different rooms playing games you do get one hell of a workout . I burn my own ROMs for everything at home and for work it's just easier for me unfortunately the downside is you should buy a bunch of EEPROMS because some can prove to be wonky due to their age. I have done OS Installs with a GOTEK in the past and it does work out well but the CD makes it painless and fast and again doing it in WINUAE is in my opinion the best way to setup a new card. I may try to set this up on a Pi since I have 4 Pi's in both my server racks one has Pi3B+ and the one I use most has Pi4's with both 4 and 8 gb.
Oh hey, that's a good idea running a windows VM to burn the EPROM. I switched to mac OS a while back and could never be bothered to figure out the command line utility, I just booted up my old desktop whenever I needed to burn a chip. I'm pretty sure I've got a spare old license for windows that I can use to create a VM, so that's probably a lot easier. Plus I can install an old copy of Eagle so I can access my old projects without booting my desktop too. Thanks for the idea!
25:00 I had a similar fault with missing 1MB of RAM and it turned out to be a motherboard fault. Near the 10uF cap there are some small vias and since the caps leak they corrode the vias nearby and cause a break in one of the signals leading to the edge connector and the Amiga doesn't see the 1MB expansion RAM card. So check the area around the 10uf smd cap at C612 for black (i.e. corroded) vias if the 1MB expansion is not seen. Alternatively trace all of the edge connector pins to where they are supposed to go and one of them will be disconnected somewhere and it will most likely be because of cap leakage. Even if the caps were replaced, if they leaked in the past the corrosion can happen later because it happens internally inside the vias.
Wäre echt Top,mach weiter so. Empfehle dich weiter (-:

Hi Jan, Great video.... Thx. I have litle note... In new system's (from 3.1.4 is integrated new feature "long name" support) is not fully compatible FastFileSytem and now any defragmentation tool not work( reorg 3.11). P.S.: Sorry for my english and good luck.
The older UV-erasable EPROMs usually do have an ID, but I think in this case the mismatch is caused by the adaptor having to fake the pinout of a different chip.
If you copy the library that is missing in the ROM to the old workbench disk then it should work. Or you use the switch to ROM 3.1. This should be compatible with the Workbench versions 1.x 2.x and 3.0 / 3.1. It even works with Workbench 3.1 on ROM 3.0
do you offer shorter versions of your videos for YT members? just asking, since it feels numbing to get an explanation 3 times, that you will not install glow icons due to the limited resources of the machine.
One of my go-to Workbench commodities is called FlushMemCX... with a key combination you can free up whatever libraries and other things are still lurking in the background eating your RAM. You shouldn't need a commodity for that, but it does help. :P
Anything above 27C32 would actually contain chip ID (identification number) regardless of age. Even some 27C32 marked as 27C32B have this. The need here to disable the ID check is that the eprom programmed is not 27C4096 but 27C400. The adapter makes sure for the correct pinout and programming algorhythm is similar so ID check is not nessesary.
Although you can erase EPROMs in sunlight, it takes a long time. In places with clear skies and low humidity then an EPROM might erase in direct sunlight in a day, possibly a shorter time to get corrupted, in humid countries like damp old England where I live it would take a week of excellent weather. EPROMs are erased by UVC light, which is in low proportion in most areas other than deserts or very sunny countries. The danger from light in your lab is minimal in comparison from static damage or other environmental factors. For long term safety of course a label over the window is sensible as even normal light will erase EPROMs over the course of years.
16:45 You can fix that by making a 1MB ROM. Newer Amigas like the A500+ and A600 fully support 1MB ROMs natively (no mods required) and on an A2000 you only need to add 1 wire, so make a 1MB ROM and never look back. Not making a 1MB ROM by default was a serious screwup by Hyperion. If they had provided a 1MB ROM it then contains the missing library files so you don't get any errors. People can't really complain about needing a 1MB ROM, simply modify the Amiga by adding 1 wire. If you can't handle that, you really should not be using a 30 year old computer. Try booting Battle Chess from floppy and see what happens... no boot because of missing libraries. You might want to do a future vid about making a 1MB ROM and the benefits it brings, including updating one of your Amigas like the A2000 to support 1MB ROMs.
The mounting plate isn't publicly available as far as I know, it was custom cut by one of the creators of this mod for me. Should be relatively easy to file a random piece of plastic into shape to act as a mounting plate though!

It's always nice to see the Amiga Installer app still in use. (I was a co-author of the first version.)
I always felt that the Amiga installer was quite ahead of it's time. In particular at the time when it was introduced there wasn't anything like it.
What a refreshing change, installing an operating system that doesn't serve ads as part of the user experience.
No annoying virtual assistant either.

Kickstart 3.2 - which is now confusing the Amiga scene a bit really, as KS3.2 was actually used in the Amiga Walker prototype machine back in 1996.

I have never looked into 3.5/3.9 so I have no idea unfortunately. But my guess is that most of the software should work despite the differences.
