- Explore the countryside of Kobe Japan. Famous for hiking and enjoying the lush outdoors.
For cruise passengers that only have a short amount of time here and want to experience the lush countryside with views, visit Mount Rokko, the popular sightseeing and hiking destination. Reach the summit via a funicular, and enjoy views of Osaka Bay and the distant Awaji Island. At the top you will find some shops and restaurants.
Kobe’s waterfront has some of of the city’s best modern architecture set against the backdrop of the Mount Rokkō mountain range. Many of Kobe’s buildings were destroyed in the Great Hanshin earthquake of 1995, and much of the city has been rebuilt. The brilliant red Kobe Port Tower is one of the buildings that stayed standing during the earthquake.
Kobe is not only know for its beef, but the Nada district of Kobe also happens to be Japan’s top sake-producing region. Visit a local Sake Brewery Museum and get a better understanding of the complexity of brewing sake. Taste several types of sake and browse the shop.
Note: The Port Terminal Train Station is directly behind the ship terminal building, if you need transportation elsewhere. Google maps does a great job finding routes to your destination.
