The 3rd northern runway has been shut down for almost 2 years now and being repaved before air-force takes exclusive control of it.
Navi Mumbai airport construction site is 10 min from my place. Currently, they are blasting off the hills and creating plains. Majority of it is done. By 2025, it could be started for goods But for commerical flights, 7-8 years more for sure
Let me tell you some additional points that why Navi Mumbai Airport will be a better solution. If we look at geography of Mumbai..it is basically an island not planned for current population. On the other hand, after crossing thane creek Navi Mumbai is mainland more closer to Pune, Thane (thane Belapur highway is anyday better to travel instead of going Santa Cruz), KDMC area and ofcourse Navi Mumbai. And since Navi Mumbai is a planned city...even for future issues it is easy to tackle with. Also, since commercially Port area is easily connected to Navi Mumbai through Easter expressway and Panvel highway. Plus all business parks in ghansoli(Navi Mumbai) MIDC area makes Navi Mumbai Airport a futuristic and sustainable option. I maybe wrong..but I think its practicality has more advantages.

Bangalore is Completing the phase 1 of its Terminal 2 International Airport with two operational runways , if it happens before 2024 then it will move from Number 3 to Number 2 spot in terms of Air traffic for both passenger and Cargo..
2:26 Dumdum Airport is no longer outside of the city of Kolkata. It’s already surrounded by the city, so no area for expansion. There’s a plan for another airport for the last 10 yrs, but I don’t know if I would be able to see that one in my lifetime.😂
I don't think Kolkata needs a new airport. Rather Durgapur and Andal airports should be upgraded. Maharashtra has 2 very good airports in Pune & Nagpur.

A new greenfield airport at palghar which is around one hour from mumbai has been proposed recently which would be functional before the navi mumbai airport as till the time navi mumbai airport is functional the city will be seeing a exponential rise in population.
The current new international terminal of mumbai airport is very good. Its better than most international airports that I have been to. I love it, good memories. I hope the new airport is as good as the current one or even better.
New airport will never be ready until and unless adequate profit won't be earned from present Mumvai airport. The airport handling company won't like to divide profit. Money is bigger than convenience and people's life.

I think if the government has the will it is still possible to build a parallel runway on the south side of existing runway 09/27 by relocating the air India maintenance hangers and slums , this will be a more immediate and cost effective solution that building a complete new airport that is so far from the city..
Hangers aren't cheap & compensation cost of land is too much high, because govt would have to offer 4 times the cost of the land to land owners & biggest problem is they'll have to build new buildings over there too..... Another problem is This airport is nearly operating at its max baggage handling capacity, so in future in future even if they built another runway, it won't be beneficial as there will be delays because of baggage facilities being over crowed........

In terms of baggage handling with the parallel runway the 2nd intersecting runway 14/32 can be shutdown leading to more space availability to meet baggage constraints.
2:27 Chennai & Kolkata airport is not outside the city but they need one outside the City desperately. Airports outside the city will give better road traffic management and reduces noise pollution and there are more advantages to it rather than people thinking "Why the heck this airport is so far away from the City??" Unfortunately, is Mumbai making another airport at Juhu? just 5kms away? This will bring an absolutely chaos in future (not too far for the size of Mumbai), aircraft movement will only multiply and it will create more traffic nightmare unless if this airport far away from the City.

You have buildings 50 storeys and above beyond Matunga in the south and above Malad in the north. That's still a sizeable chunk of land. Even in the neighborhood around, the limits have been increased from 6 storeys to around 12 storeys. A question to answer would be would the insane cost of removing the airport, redeveloping that land, and building skyscrapers affect the real estate prices in Mumbai in a positive way at all in a way to benefit the government or anybody for that matter? Seems unlikely to me. Would like to know your opinion.

I just went to last week to drop a family member and my god it was HORRIBLE. We went there at 2AM and the traffic was just unbelievable. There were thousands of cars waiting for parking. We were stuck 45 minutes just in the airport parking line. When we finally got in, there were just 2-3 spots available for parking. And it was just a random day! Wasn't even holiday season or anything. I can't even imagine what must be happening during holidays... Honestly I doubt if even 2 more airports will be enough!
If airlines serve busy routes by wide body jets such as A350, A330, B747, B787, B777 or even A380 Mumbai airport would free up 40% of the slots without much of expenditure and highly skilled manpower which is in short supply. Also important to mention Airlines are already struggling with shortage of pilots to run so many aeroplanes anyway. With wide body Jets being used for domestic traffic, there will be better utilisation of Airport infrastructure and pilots. But Indigo won't like it because it has hundreds of narrow body jets and almost no wide body.

I think the worst airport I have ever visited. Few days ago I went there to drop my family members, I already booked wheel-chairs for them bcuz they are senior citizens and have a back problem.they can't able to walk more. When I reached there, there are no one to asked for wheel-chairs. Then I asked army-men who were standing at the entering gate. They literally told me its not our duty suggest you where to collect wheel-chairs, go and ask to ur flight helpline number.
The fact is Mumbai was busiest airport of India 10 to 12 years ago. But it stoped growing because of its single runway system when it reached its saturation. There is almost zero growth in trafic in last 5 years and the reason why Delhi receives so much more traffic.
Passenger traffic is concentrated in Mumbai as there are no other airports in its catchment area. Lot of international traffic traveling from Mumbai doesn't necessarily originate from the city, it's the lack of international air connectivity in surrounding major cities which compels people to travel via Mumbai which inflates Mumbai airports air traffic numbers.
Without watching the video only I can give that answer why mumbai needs a new airport...common sense stuff for aviation geeks...Mumbai's airport isn't the largest and can't be expanded due to the slum around it. It desperately needs expansion due to so much traffic. Plus it's approach is dangerous as flights tend to barely touch those slum houses as they land.
Can you make a video on the reasons for such a long delay in bringing up Navi Mumbai Airport. Skyscrapers are allowed but there are limits depending how close a development is to the airport.

Can you make a video on the reasons for such a long delay in bringing up Navi Mumbai Airport. It was envisaged way back in 2003 or even prior to that, but due to Politics involved, No government really took any interest. can you highlight all those factors responsible for delaying this project.
