I came late to Ibert Bob, so most of my collection is CD...it's very good to hear this Lp - I've only heard it as a re-release on the 'L'esprit Français' EMI/Pathé mid-price CD - I have many of these, and especially the Martinon ones I'm very keen on - even (especially!) his Debussy four discs, where competition is keener than the Ibert! Not the Garrard for this disc...any particular reason? Is the Ortofon the same as the 2M Bronze in all but cartridge shape? I nearly bought the 2M Black a while ago.....in the past I've had several Ortofons, my favourite being the MC20...with which I parted reluctantly. In the end I got the Goldring E4 until I can make up my mind about the 2M Black....and then there's the LVB version of the 2M Black which gets very good reviews, have you heard it? Seasonal Salutations BTW!
I'm also fairly new to Ibert (apart from his Divertissement), and there were lots of good pieces on a Greensleeve reissue of some Frémaux/CBSO recordings (I posted Symphonie Marine from this record a while ago ruclips.net/video/jueJ4ho4rwY/видео.html - La Mer it's not!). The only reason for using the Kenwood TT was to show off the Concorde Bronze - which I think sounds fabulous. I know it's not the case, but I always associated the Concorde range with DJ use. The move to make the 2M range available with the Concorde body prompted me to try one, and the Bronze sat in the middle of the range. An LVB was tempting, though I've never heard one - or indeed any 2M! Unlike the 2M the Concorde Music range all share the same generator so you can upgrade all the way from Red to LVB if you want to. I shall be posting more stuff with the Bronze, no doubt! And a happy Christmas to you too!
Yes I have the Frémaux, and another worth looking out for, Charles Dutoit in Montreal with Flute Conc. Escales and the rarely played 'Paris - Symphonic Suite'. Oh BTW, your mentioning 'La Mer' reminds me that if you don't know it try and have a listen to Jean Cras's 'Journal de Bord', like the Debussy a triptych and clearly influenced by it! Oh, and actually written at sea!
