Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

I am a huge Bernie supporter- and THIS is one of the things I love about him. He understands that politics is about compromise. He campaigned hard for HRC after a rather contentious primary. He is outspoken in his criticism of Biden- AND understands that there is **no other viable choice**. I don't agree w Bernie on EVERYTHING. Vote for the best legitimate option. This presidential election it is Biden or Trump. I would prefer NO money went to Israel. Israel's treatment of Palestinians has been horrific for decades. But how will their plight be improved under a Trump presidency? Not to mention the environment, LGBTQ rights, and a plethora of other issues I care about. OBVIOUSLY the choice is Biden. And, as Colin Jost just said about him, he is a decent man.

Hamas and Israeli war, just a few things Amrricans have forgotten:
      1. Who started the war?
      2. Do you really think the hamas and palistinan militant groups have built the tunnels and outfitted them for war without the palestinan public knowing?
      3. Do you really think the Palestinians and Palestinian militant groups didn't watch the missles and bombs being set up and tuned to their Israeli targetslll?
      4. Do you really think the Palestines are a peace loving group who didn't want Israel bomed?
      6. Have you forgotten that the Hamas and Palestinian militant groups targeted a music festival?
      6. Have you forgotten that the hamas and palistinan militant groups took hostages from the music festival? Hostages who are still being held and, yes, still being tortured? How many of the hostages, and yes, hostage children, if ever returned, will be able to live a normal life after the physical and emotional atrocities they've experienced?
      7. Do you forget that the Israelis targeted places the hamas and palistinan militant groups were said to be hiding and the cowards hid in hospitals and any other places where innocent people were and which would make the Israelis look bad for targeting? This is war. War, the hamas and palistinan militant groups started. How would you have rid your own country of these invaders?
      8. Do you not understand that the Israelis are surrounded by immoral and ugly peoples? The same countries and societies which intentionally took down our trade center and killed so manyAmericans? People who have cut off the heads of Americans and televised it?
      8. Do you not see that the Palestinianss could give up the hamas and palistinan militant groups and end all of this immediately?
      9. What would you do if you knew a violent and deadly group was setting up in America to invade and kidnap and begin a war with Canada?
      10. Does the concept of trying to live peacefully in a country surrounded by vicious and atrocious societies, people who spaun and train suicide bombers who do what I've laid out and worse, escape your reason?
      11. War is ugly people die that's just the way it is. People and children die needlessly. And it's brutal and ugly. Hamas and palistinan militant groups invaded and began a war with israel. Israel who still has children who were taken as hostages, if they haven't all been killed by now?
Who started this war? Who broke the peace on an early morning? Who aided and hid and supported this war?
      12. In the 75 years since Israel became a country, they have not once been violent with a neighbor without provocation. They have not once begun a war.
      13. I'm not Israeli so I don't know, but I have a brain and empathy. I believe that if I were surrounded as they are, by the very worst, most violent, hideous countries and societies who want to commit genocide, I'd try to find a peaceful resolution. But failing that, I'd do my best to have them fear my retaliation. Like a bully in the school yard who you do your best to beat up so they'll stop bullying. As a country who's doing their best to survive their war mongering neighbors, neighbors who are bigger, stronger, wealthier and want to completely wipe out every last one of my citizens,
I'd do my very best to make the war THEY STARTED against my peaceful country was one they'd never forget!
Last I shouldn't need to remind you these same countries want to wipe out America. They brought both trade center bombings to us. They took hostage four of America's airliners. And killed the men, women and children while bringing down the trade towers with their men woman and children. Passengers and Trade Ceneter workers who had the time to call those they loved and say. "Goodbye." People who had a very long time to contemplate their coming death. Workers who jumped from above the 60th floor to avoid being burned to death. These are the monsters wanting to erase Israel from our maps., and the Palestinians and palistinan militant groups who supported and hid them to enable them to commit more horror.
Yes, war is ugly. People get killed and taken hostage. Children get killed and taken hostage. It makes me wonder why hamas and palistinan militant groups started the war and why the palestinians hid them and the missiles and bombs they used against Israel. It also makes me wonder how much carnage Israel feels it needs to do to eradicate the hamas and palistinan militant groups and feel somewhat safe again in the middle of societies who want them erased.

@@Sandra-ph1zy well let’s see here. Student loan forgiveness was chopped he said “sorry can’t actually do that.” While the youth are standing against the atrocities HIS ADMINISTRATION is sending Israel money to “fully support” the genocide. Queer people are being targeted more now than in recent history and his focus is to send money to Israel and ban Tik Tok. If he was serious about the platform he ran on to get leftists to vote for him he would have given conservatives SOME pushback instead of giving them small victories in everything they do while slowly stripping our rights away. He’s SO focused on the moderate vote that they will turn around and blame the left for not voting for him when he loses to Trump because he has shown us he CAN’T stay true to his word. You can check politifact on this one if you really want to. They have reported that the majority of what he ran on for 2020 was “stalled” and “in progress” and the promises he did “keep” are mostly small things or half truths that wasn’t even his administrations doing. You are falling for the system that is keeping you oppressed and making you think you actually have a voice. Money wins, and politicians like BIDEN and Trump (let’s be real here this goes without saying) will keep doing everything they can to line their pockets and support the rich in any way they can. If you are really this clueless on how few campaign promises he’s kept then you are just willingly ignorant. No leftist that sees what’s happening in Garza would turn around and “both sides” the argument and then say the side committing the genocide has their FULL SUPPORT…

I’ve had this same problem. That and a bunch of transphobic and misogynistic content. Biden won’t be fighting back against it though because he’s actively trying to make it worse. Tik Tok is the ONLY social media platform that doesn’t constantly push Nazi or Nazi adjacent propaganda, and Biden’s administration is being swayed by racist fear mongering so they can make tik tok just like another RUclips, Facebook, instagram or twitter so they can push more videos that condition young people into believing Nazi propaganda. For Biden to win he needs to be as aggressive as Trump in fighting the corruption, racism, sexism, transphobia, and homophobia, but he won’t do that because (As we can see from his LONG history in politics) he actually aligns with Trump on a lot and just makes claims that he wants to change things without any change. He could be so much more vocal in getting Democrats (like his friend manchin at the start of his presidency blocking everything) in line so he can get stuff done. Why would I vote for someone who made promises to then turn around and say “sorry I can’t actually do that, but here let’s fund a genocide that should make things better”

I've been wondering this for a while, but does the US have an equivalent to the Vote Compass that CBC puts out in Canada? Vote Compass asks political leaders and party platforms a selection of questions. Then the user is asked the same questions and is asked to rate how important different issues are to them. It then outputs a grid that places the parties' and your results on a scale of economically liberal and socially liberal. You can also check individual responses and see which party or candidate is closest to your views. It is super helpful for low information voters.

What the democrats need to understand is the South.
They need to understand Southern Values and not just dismiss the whole South. There's such a misconception about what southern values are bc they've been hijacked by churches and the GOP, but more and more people are moving away from the churches. This is a great opportunity for Democrats to invest in the South and win over voters that don't want to be aligned with GOP policies, but by into the rhetoric through cultural exposure and lack of any other views being heard. If Southerners started getting respect instead of mockery, you could start to change hearts.
People want to reduce the GOP voters down to people who react based on disgust and fear, but that's just what the GOP and media feeds them and reinforces the narrative of.
You start talking about what they love- talk about environmentalism as preserving fishing and hunting and camping areas, present electric cars as the next coolest gadget to make life convenient and maybe incentivize innovation that promotes designs for families and road trips, talk about books as families getting together and reading stories once more instead of book bans that has the unintended effect of making people just want to avoid books which isn't helping anything, talk about LGBTQIA rights as focusing on us being people and loved ones and show us in non stereotypical areas, high light some of our strengths, and maybe highlight some white people and cultures on occasion as well as other ethnicities- like maybe talking about Cajun history and contributions beyond food, the Dutch influence on New York's history, etc. You would win so many voters. You need to acknowledge that "White Guilt" is a thing and it needs to be addressed and it's directly playing into the mental health crisis some young men are facing.
You don't empower one group by disenfranchising another. And maybe that's not what's exactly going on, no one is out here educating people and guiding society through that cultural transition. And in the process the message of "I don't want to loose my heritage and history" is getting misconstrued to "you shouldn't celebrate your history bc it's only mine that's legitimate" and that isn't what most people would mean to say if they had time to think about it.
Talk about how people use communism and socialism as scary words they count on people being ignorant and afraid of, tell them what those things are so they can identify it properly. Many people in the South have no clue what those terms actually mean, they just think it's bad so they are against it. So anyone who has any policy that slightly falls along those lines can easily be maligned and it feel legitimate as a surface level.
You're working with generational intentional ignorance through poor education. You're working with a lot of good people struggling day to day and can't keep up with nuanced discussion on top of their 3 part time jobs and never being told better and discouraged from going out to find out the answers for themselves. These people are tired of being the butt of the jokes by those who should be smart enough to know better.
It's scary for those of us here in the South. I used to be a Tea Party member, now Independent who mostly votes Democratic. The party has changed so much and I am truly terrified of the type of voter my young cousin is growing into. Where are the Democrats?
It truly feels like the DNC has given up on any chance of gaining any ground in places like Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi so they just don't spend any funds here or put up any competent candidates.
It often appears as if it is intentional in order to use the South and it's policies as a way to illicit fear of "what could happen" like taking your misbehaving child to a jail so they can see how bad it can get if they don't change course. We feel abandoned.
So yeah, when we are the ones having to face the bullying and discrimination tactics (I've literally been forced to vote in churches before), it's really hard to care or have enthusiasm for a party that only thinks about us to make a punchline to another reductive and dismissive mockery. 🤷‍♀️
We keep asking for help, it'd be easy to "convert voters" and change the message of the South if you ever actually came off your urbanized high horses and took the time to understand the people in a way your polling data will never provide 🤷‍♀️
Lots of good people don't believe half the shit they vote for bc no one is out here telling them otherwise.

Even now, the Dems are trying to pitch Biden as the more wholesome candidate while he gives carte blanche to a rouge state to carry out a genocide because at the end of the day, all that matters is the facade of freedom and democracy that has always been propped up by the blood of the third world, and when white america has to reckon with joining the ranks of those victimized by the US, they can’t handle it.

I’m looking forward to listening to this because I’ve been wondering about it as well. I just really really hope that he discusses the podcast (audio and video) strategy. Because I listen to a wide variety of shows and influential places like The Breakfast Club, so many “comedian” hosted podcasts and even people like Stephen A Smith are always always criticizing Biden and barely ever cover Trump’s or MAGA’s (especially House “leaders” ) craziness. At the very least, they paint a false equivalency and the only two people I have ever seen (on just a few shows) to successfully counter the narrative are Pete Buttigieg and Mark Cuban. I don’t know where everyone else is.
Most seem to stay in their own ideological bubbles and do their rounds on “friends’” podcasts. I probably sound like a broken record but it is maddening and I have yet to hear anyone address it. It really kills me (and others) about Dems - we’re always chasing the narrative instead of strongly creating it and a lot of us lose faith. Of course I’m voting for Biden but honestly I’m doing it out of desperation. The Party itself has completely lost me. I feel like they don’t listen and I don’t get why there wasn’t a succession plan. Just because Biden did a good job doesn’t mean he’s the right person at this time NOW. And he’s not beause we all want someone stronger to go out and slay MAGA. Biden is a great great legislator and great at governing and a wonderful person. That’s awesome. But is he a great LEADER for the country. No and why no one talks about the difference kills me and obviously others too. I don’t get why Dan (who I know gets frustrated about the communication criticism) don’t talk about how the importance of being a charismatic communicator has exponentially inreased to be able to cut through this media environment. Isn’t that one of the most important factors in being a leader? To me, it seems like the skills for campaigning for and being president have started to converge. Can that be a discussion?
Why can’t Dems get ahead of the game and start talking really innovative system change (that all of us and particularly young people are craving - we don’t wnt to keep playing a totally broken game with outdated rules)? Because you need the right person to do it and sorry but Biden isn’t it and definitely VP Harris aren’t it. For example, VP Harris and Biden went on The Breakfast Club and it was a complete and total disaster - the comments still to this day indicate many actually think Biden is more racist than Trump for the one awkward comment he made. “If you don’t vote for me you ain’t black.” It is crazy to me that anyone couldn’t understand the intent behind that statement and be able to see that Trump is actually racist while Biden is at times a terrible communicator but yet in this media environment those statements live on in infamy. It’s the narrative that Dems are undercover racists while at least Trump and MAGA are doing it out loud and visibly? Lastly, VP Harris came across completely inauthentic and pandering and they called her out as well. Watching either of them speak to people - especially as advocates -is uncomfortable. We’re always waiting for them to misspeak or be awkward. Just really really frustrating and sad :/
Sorry, I don’t know where this all came from. Woke up on wrong side of bed 🤪

He should maybe stay off tik tok with all the dangers involved.
He should also stop helping Isreal.

Please stop promoting Starbucks. Maybe consider using that free ad space on your coffee cups to promote unions.
PS: thank you for helping to protect our democracy with your intriguing content. You dudes da best :)))

I can and do disagree with Biden on more issues than I care to list. But, by just taking a look at the Supreme Court, I have no problem supporting him considering what the alternative is going to be.
I would like to see a Democratic president (be it Biden or Harris for that matter) name a replacement for Alito and Thomas (may their souls burn in hell's eternal flames), not necessarily in that order.
