Great video. I love Hearst Castle. I've only been there once (I live in Michigan), but would love to go back someday and take all the tours. Like you, I was inspired by the gardens, and have done my own garden now.
I don't think so - as a tour ticket is required to take the Bus up to Castle (they won't let you walk the 5 miles from the visitor center to the actual castle). But on our tour, when it was ended, we could walk the grounds around the gardens and the Neptune pool as much as we wanted. I don't think you can wander unattended INSIDE the house.
Keep in mind that unlike Disneyland, Hearst Castle is a museum and historical monument. It is not an amusement park and is not really appropriate for young children (under 6).
@@btuff yes, there are younger children who do love it. I am happy that your daughter enjoyed it. There are whole lot more children between the age of 2-4 who do not find it fun, so they scream and cry for the majority of the tour. People need to be aware that you can't touch anything, have to stay on a tour mat, and are expected to listen to the guide giving the tour, which lasts a bit more than an hour.

100%. Easy, not super-crowded, a solid deal, really fun, and educational! My favorite place.
I LIVED FOR YRS. IN CAYUCOS AND MORRO BAY DOWN THE ROAD AND WORKED AT HEARST CASTLE❤❤❤
Super cool video. I haven't been there in years. Thanks.
