I have been snowboarding for about 30 years (that made me feel old to type) Every season I have at least 1 experience that makes me feel like a beginner again. Stay humble but keep progressing
Thank you so much for pointing out situational awareness. ( slowing down, not taking that hit). This is a constant battle we have trying to educate new riders about safety. I really hate bringing riders down in a sled injured because they didn't pay attention to the riders or skiers downhill from them.
Really? I've only been a poodle, not a redcoat, but I find it quite satisfying when reckless skiers or riders get a free toboggan ride with a nice cozy blanket, instead of the innocent people they hit. 💩
I've been down hill longboarding for a while but I live far away from the snow. Every winter I get so excited for my yearly snowboard trip. Thanks for making these awesome videos because my snowboarding would be so much worse without the quality advice I find on channels like this.
Been on a snowboard 23 seasons now... I do spot the noobs, in past two days, saw 4 of them struggling...but I showed them how to, gave them pointers and practice exercises. Did cost me an hour or so per person, but they got instant better, more fun with progression and so on, less "danger" to others so on so on...in my book, totally worth it🤷
Dude you're a treasure. I'm a total beginner and I've been riding in Austria for three years now. Not once have I seen a single soul stop and help out a beginner, ask if they're alright or give some advice to the mistakes they make. All you get here are stupid remarks or laughter. Keep it up dude, you're a real MVP.
@@ToxicTechpriest tnx...well, that sux to hear. Always thought "mountain sport ppl" were chill. Maybe that's just in my head😂. You should come and shred the slopes in Sweden then🏂😄🥳. Plenty of mellow ppl
Will be my 4th season. But, all season I haven’t snowboarded for more than 3-5 days. In addition its always 2 years apart…i feel that im one level above everything u just pointed out! U helped me realize where to improve before hitting jumps. Thanks!!
I just taught my nephew to snowboard and then as a recap sent him this video. Thank you. Also, great job on #5 emphasizing giving space. We just rode multiple mountains in Tahoe and the number of people buzzing within a foot of my beginner nephew was silly and dangerous as hell. I was going slow with him and people came within a foot or two of me flying by too with nothing but room on the runs to go by. A couple of them I caught up to after they almost hit us and had to provide some stern coaching about it.
I'm trying to get back into snowboarding after 15 years of being out east... I forgot all of the basics lol. I know my legs shouldn't be this tired, excited to go back out and get back to hitting some jumps. Thanks for the tips.
@@JohnathanBuckhouse Thank you.. I just posted a video from Eldora from Thanksgiving weekend if you want to check it out. By no means do I claim to be a good snowboarder 😂 I do travel videos just for fun.

I need to work on the first three. But my situation awareness is there. Im always looking around to see where people are . To the point where I also look behind me to see where people are. Which isn't always a good thing lol.
Yes, I dig your vids man! I’ve been snowboarding for 32 years and I like going back to your vids keeps me humble and always learning!. I can’t thank you enough on stressing SAFETY!!! Oh Lord I lost count on yelling “ NOT A GOOD PLACE TO SIT!!”. I was a beginner once but the guys who I rode with back then always stressed SAFETY, smart riding, know when to take a break. I would say I’m fairly intermediate, just new to the park and still have it sit down, though I have flat feet so my feet are killing me by the first lap so sitting just helps not be in pain
Ive been boarding 20 years, shred park big mountain pow and piste pretty hard, worked 10 years as a SB instructor....and i love watching JB for the shred progression.
I watch because I'm advanced at certain aspects, but still have certain weak points I'm trying to brush up on. Also, I love hearing his reviews of different mountains.

Question on black or double black i somehow do that lean backward and it causes me to fall more often. If i just go my pace i go to fast and end up having to brake to hard, how to cope with that?
I love the tips and the message at the end of the video. 🙏🏽 What’s your honest take on the clew bindings and have you tried Nidecker Supermatics? Me and my wife want to invest and on the fence which one to buy.
I only been snowboarding once when I was 22 and now I am 39 and want to try again sooo bad with my kids. But I live in Texas what’s the best place to take a family trip during the winter time?
Been riding for 17 years i still sit to take in the view/wait for people/rest/ let the slope below me clear of people. Standing to strap your bindings does not make you look like an expert. Only stand to strap when I’m hittin the slope instantly after getting off the lift and I’ll actually strap in while riding slowly tbh
Just one question about the whole sitting down thing, does kneeling to help a skier friend get their skis back on count? Cause I ride with a lot of skiers who all rent, and it is very common that the skis will not be good quality and constantly pop off. Does that count?
@1:48 LOL I'm like damn. How is Buckhouse doing that without catching a ed............... NM. Keeping fingers crossed this Dec 18th at Breckenridge I can advance to at least beginner. I hate living in FL. Trying to learn to snowboard has been rough. A stiff camber board probably hasn't helped. But this time going with a Capita Pathfinder reverse. I'll be near the quick silver chair lift. Looks like it goes up to about 5 easy green runs.
first day can make it down blues with bails of course. it's still intimidating and I want to go back and get that clean run. come from skateboarding and ripstick background. was a TON of fun. would highly recommend specifically to anyone who likes powerslides.
I just started snowboarding last week - age 40 and loving it. How long on average does it take to go from beginner to intermediate? I need to work on my edge to edge turns...Ill be practicing more in the winter at some of the beginner friendly resorts in New York
It all depends how often you snowboard. Some people can do it in one ski season. Some people it could take years. Time on snow is the only way to get better faster.
took me years to even get to maybe low intermediate mostly because i didn't get much time on the mountain and never took lessons. It wasn't something that came super naturally to me personally.
i dont agree with you on the sitting down some people are just out of shape and need to rest. i consider myself a intermediate to advance rider but i will sit down if i got to wait for friends to catch up but most of the time i dont stop. all your other points make sence tho
Agreed, I’d consider myself expert level can snowboard any terrain any slope been going since I was 10 now I’m 27 I sit down all the time to rest/wait for people/ take in the view/wait for the slope below me to clear of people. This guy seems intermediate to me lol
i go with both ends At both firest and like plowing and try turn i think i am lil bit chicken here l to try turn and how and when to turn lol.. i love snowboarding otherwise.. i go to my hills no matter how i do it..i still think is fun :D
Reason #2: If you were riding with my family (all skiers) you would knee or sit a lot. 😅 And not because they are bad skiguys… they just really relaxed and chillin‘ while riding the slopes 😂 In a 220 km slope-area you don‘t want to lose them 😊
60 and rode black diamonds last week and never fell. I didn't book 'em, but I got work and kids so I'm not trying to accidentally bang myself up. I'm fine with that protective intermediate thing for now. Good stuff though. Respect.
Also, the better you get the less tired you get. It helps to be solid on single blacks and tough blues, because you're not wearing yourself out struggling. You're just gliding and not afraid of anything.
the only time i bend over on my snowboard is when i go down a long af run and my knees and upper legs just kill me at the end of it so i just bend over until i get on the lift
So last week I was on the hill, and I yelled at some sitters that they're beginners. They skiied up to me and beat the crap out of me with snow. I don't think that tip is correct.
I cant straighten my knees fully ever. I tried today before my first run today with my board on. I could barely do it standing still. Always have your knees bent and your right never sitdown. You look like a noob!! lol. Sometimes i have to rest my legs though l, so i get it.
gotta disagree with the sit on the ground part, unless your leg made of steel, you gonna get tired no matter what, I do average 20 run a day, with about 20 gazillion tricks each run, my leg need rest every half a run
as someone who surfs i see correlation with snowboarding and surfing in technique. but seeing a snowboarding carving while just mainting a standing body position and not doing any vissable body movements makes it seem like you do turns flawless and without effort, but it looks ugly as hell. style is everything combined with technique, therefore im still doing bottom turns with body crouched, just like in surfer. in my opinion it looks way better and stylish, cause its technique. 0:34 something like this, but without touching the ground, more bended knee's and arm bend in.
I disagree with your second point that if you can't carve you're still a beginner. Carving is something that takes time to learn after mastering edge control but you can easily get around the mountain without it. Beginners cannot so I believe it's not required to be considered an intermediate rider
If sitting on the ground is a beginner thing then 99.9% of the snowboarders are beginners coz that's what they all do, sit in the middle of the run lol

My biggest problem is the bending at the waist. Especially when I go for a jump. Although I think I could definitely improve all of these things.
I only been snowboarding once when I was 22 and now I am 39 and want to try again sooo bad with my kids.
But I live in Texas what’s the best place to take a family trip during the winter time?
I’d consider myself an intermediate-advanced rider but I still have to sit down to strap in haha

Same. I can strap in standing up a couple times but after a while it actually hurts my back. I find it easier on flat ground.

first one!!
On it!
I like sitting. I’m old man.
3:04 a view better than the actual view
as someone who surfs i see correlation with snowboarding and surfing in technique.
but seeing a snowboarding carving while just mainting a standing body position and not doing any vissable body movements makes it seem like you do turns flawless and without effort, but it looks ugly as hell.
style is everything combined with technique, therefore im still doing bottom turns with body crouched, just like in surfer.
in my opinion it looks way better and stylish, cause its technique.
0:34 something like this, but without touching the ground, more bended knee's and arm bend in.
