    1D chess: Ding and Rapport got careless and all their prep is publicly available now
    2D chess: Ding and Rapport did this on purpose, knowing it’d be discovered, so team Nepo would prepare for the wrong things
    3D chess: Team Nepo figured this out days ago and is more upset that it became public because now team Ding is aware, causing Nepo to tilt… just as team Ding planned
    4D chess: these were friendly games between Nepo and Ding themselves as a good will “mutual prep” session
    5D chess: The actual Pentagon released this to cause chaos as Russia and China are US adversaries
    6D chess: Hans Niemann is the redditor who discovered and leaked this because he just wants to watch the world burn
    7D chess: These were two actual 1500 players playing for fun and randomly trying out openings, still blissfully unaware of the worldwide furor their games have caused

    Fabi is brilliant and I’m really enjoying his insights. Having said that, it strikes me as borderline insane to say this won’t have much of a negative effect on Ding. Unless it was some sort of intentional false flag leak (highly unlikely), it blows several holes in Ding’s prep. But more than that, it just adds to Ding’s evident mood of insecurity and self-doubt. The psychological blow to a player who is already fragile in that department is bound to be massive. Sad - but I guess it’s what you get when you recklessly prepare on a public server.

    • @griffinq8003

      I would hope that a chess genius and an entire team of similar geniuses would be able to figure out and double check how to make sure those games are not viewable to the public. I think it was probably them, but I don't think it was serious prep or they would have been more careful
      personally im on this train:
      2D chess: Ding and Rapport did this on purpose, knowing it’d be discovered, so team Nepo would prepare for the wrong things
      Ding deliberately played a game he recognized from that account knowing it would be discovered and gambling that Nepo and his team would spend the rest of the tournament studying those games rather than focusing on their earlier prep

Also, every fellow chess player knows the feeling of losing a terrible game, spoiling a winning position, etc., and asking another player, especially when they are under such pressure, "what do you feel after missing winning moves?" or "why were you late?" is just incredibly rude.

    It's a lot easier to say now that Nepo won't be looking to the Italian, than it would've been a few months ago. I think it's very reasonable from Ding's perspective to throw in a few Italian games just in case Nepo decides to avoid the Marshall that way.
    I can't imagine too much information will be gleaned from these accounts, it's not that many games, but perhaps it's informative in some way to see what directions the Ding team was looking to find chances? Whether the positions were more calm, or more crazy, or both. Given we're halfway through the match though, it just seems like whoever gets the initiative seems to be doing well, so even if this information could be decoded, would it be useful?

      There’s also some vested interest from Klein to ask these questions. Klein has a top level executive position at a chesscom subsidiary, and chesscom sponsors Nepomiatchichi. There is a financial incentive for chesscom, if Nepo won the match.
      It’s a bit under the table that Klein was the one to ask these questions. Almost like he’s trying to prod some information from Ding that can be used by Nepo’s team.
      Questions of this nature feel a bit below the belt, given that they come from someone that directly benefits if they reveal something useful to Nepo.
      Chesscom sponsors Nepo for this match, and it would look really good for their advertising revenue if the next wcc is the horse they put money behind.

    I enjoy this podcast and I appreciate the work that you do BUT I'm sorry, saying "KUDOS" to the redditors that leaked Ding's prep and effectively ruined what was otherwise a fair fight, that's absolutely ridiculous. I just want to see a fair match, I don't think Ding OR Nepo want this. If Nepo wins, it'll just undermine his accomplishment. And it really makes the whole match a lot less appealing for me, as a spectator looking for fair games

    • @AzureAlliance31
      @AzureAlliance31 Год назад

      If Nepo wanted to make this a level playing field, he'd make his prep public. No way does that happen, though.

    • @freyc1
      @freyc1 Год назад

      Someone was gonna find it out. Maybe Nepo's team knew about it already and the redditor did Ding a favour by making him aware of the leak. Anyway, you can't blame the one who made it public : it is incredibly stupid of Ding's team to have let this happen. The redditor didn't leak Ding's prep: HE and his team made it public.

      Very poor take to blame it on the guy who notices it, in my opinion. It's not unlikely Nepo's team had noticed already and the redditor just made Ding's team a favour by making them aware their prep had been leaked. Anyway, it's their fault if they have been so stupid as to play their prep in public games...
