Rakesh bhai next time, please also see Gautam Chintamani book Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna it is much more accurate and well written than Yasir Usmani one While Kaka was a great actor, he was also a complete lowlife who could do incredible acts of kindness.
People can agree or disagree but this is my personal opinion about RK and I hope most will agree with me on this. I personally feel RK was the most misunderstood actor of his time. The way he is made out like a villain by media and many other stars fans is very exaggerated a lot I think. The reason I feel this way is because when he became arrogant in his peak, he was still very young like in his late 20s and early 30s. He was too young and immature to handle such a huge gigantic stardom. Sure we all as humans have flaws. But after the failures I think he became more humble and matured by the 80s time when he realized that he was not god that he was thinking himself to be. I have seen some of his 80s interviews, where he himself said things such as I am only an actor not a superstar. There was a period when audience made me a superstar but originally main ek actor hi raha hu aur actor hi rahunga when interviewer was praising his stardom. In his other interview he also praised South Indian cinema by saying south me zyada achcha content banta hai, hum log to bas unki remakes karte hai. Which is true and we can clearly see that today how Bollywood always copies south content. However that’s a different topic but the main thing is RK did show maturity and humbleness in the later stage of his career. He also praised Amitabh stardom in his 2008 interview. He was good friend with Jeetendra, Kishore Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, etc to name a few. So I think he was the most misunderstood actor of his time.
