Hugh Miller - It is designed to never end, because it is what the news channel calls a "filler". The main countdown that you see on the news channel at the top of the hour is either 60 or 90 seconds long (they have 6 different versions for day and night time) and as those are a set length, if they need longer than 90 seconds, then they are stuffed. The filler is also used on the rare occasion that the news isn't starting exactly at 00:00 on the hour, which can happen on a simulcast if BBC One is running late. On the Eurovision weekend 2 weeks back, the filler played for almost 3 minutes on the late news before BBC One was ready to opt into the news channel for the late news bulletin. If they did not have the filler, they would have been stuck with a "temporary break in transmission" type slide like you used to see on tv years ago. The filler is a good way of letting people know that 1) it isn't a technical fault 2) the news will be along shortly 3) give people a chance to listen to a piece of music that surprisingly a lot of people really enjoy listening to.
Really blissful music. Also nice music for a complete workout session. I love it. I studied Communication and would certainly have applied to the BBC for employment if I was living in England. This music would have played a big part in my selection of a media outlet. Bravo . Am I not correct Muriel? Have a great day on Sunday.
That was a REALLY HELPFUL piece, Sir ! ....especially for fans of the theme who aren't from the UK...like me. I'm hooked onto this theme & its various remixes too ! How can a score for a news bulletin be SO FREAKIN' addictive ??? 🤔
This keeps my 4.2 km brisk-walking pace... love it! Cool to know that there are others too who use this to keep them on the beat... thank you for the loop 🙏🏼🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🙏🏼
Every time I feel tired or sad I listen this music. Definately Inspiring music, beats the way heart beats pushing-preparing you to keep on moving despite dificulties always getting ready for the next step of spreading-sharing awareness through media globally. Well done BBC.
I am not British Chris but French but I have to say that the BBC is, undoubtedly, THE absolute best Media group in the world. Because there is no advertising at all, total independence is guaranteed. Thank you for allowing the world to watch BBC News. I love the theme! It is so professional! Max,
I wouldn't be shouting that from the roof tops the BBC did employ some shady characters over the years including a Mister Saville for starters ....good news theme though
true , im german and when i look at our 2 big news channels they are so dumb and unprofessional. there was even a time when the weather forecast was a pure advert-show where they gave holiday offers.... rediculous and shameful! thanks bbc :) i admire the brits!
I presume the BBC have pretty much this video constantly playing on a backup system somewhere. There have been a few occasions when I've had the BBC News channel on and it's unexpectedly cut to this loop for a few minutes before resuming, probably caused by a power blip or fire alarm or something. If the backup ever stops working... then the Trident captains open their letters.
To be more precise, what they have is called a cut-in tracker. Essentially it advances a frame every (probably in this case) second, and when a technician hits the cue, it starts up the video in perfect synchronisation with the time to the hour.
. One of the most vivid examples of music as a measure of time. Also a sweet and perfect marriage of cold calculation - the monotonic pips are exactly one second apart; - and human feeling - use of guitar, strings and contrasting percussion giving tension and drama. This simple piece is a perfect blend of head and heart, a splendid representation of all journalism should be. . Well done BBC.
Uplifting, always available 24/24, 7 days a week, addictive, thrilling, nerving, putting you in tension, making you attentive, this music has it all ! Love it.
I have now done a video with a countdown timer on it. It’s a 10 minute version counting from 0:10:00 to 0:00:00. It took around 10 hours to create as every second of the counter had to be inserted into the video manually. I will try to do an hour long version at some point, but as it took 10 hours to do 10 minutes, don’t expect it for a little while yet. To see the countdown timer version, click on the videos link next to my username which you will find directly under the video player.
Well said. Fucking love the beeb!! An upholder of democracy and a provider of fucking brilliant entertainment! Gonna have to fight for it sadly:( Much love to it!
No there wasn't a clock on the original footage. The BBC have two versions of the countdown, the first is the one with the clock that counts down to the top of the hour and then there is this one which is used when BBC One and the BBC News Channel have a shared news broadcast, while this plays out on the BBC News Channel, in the studio they usualy swap presenters for the networked BBC One bulletin - hence it being on a continuous loop with no real defined start or end :)
Hello ! Reading all your interesting feedbacks, I wonder how you know all this on such a specific subject ! Have you or are ou still working for the BBC production team / backstage ? ! 🤔🤨
@@christbdx I have never worked for the BBC. I find out most of my information by following specific accounts of people that work behind the scenes of BBC News on social media. I usually know in advance if the countdown / filler has changed, or generally at the latest on the day. The only exception to not knowing in advance is the most recent change due to the removal of Huw Edwards from the filler, because understandably with what happened there, they have not publicised it.
Acrually it is 1 minute of footage looped 60 tmes. It doesn't claim to be 60 minutes of 'new' and 'exciting' countdown material. If you watch the news channel on a Saturday or Sunday when the news channel has joint news broadcasts with BBC One, they always use the filler countdown leading into those broadcasts. Typically you get between 30-80 seconds of the filler. Lots of people like the filler music, hence creating a 60 minute version of it. It's a shame you don''t appreciate good news music!
No, there has been quite a few different versions since 1998. The first was in 2003 when BBC News 24 was relaunched, then again in 2005, then again in 2006 and again in 2008, then again in 2010 and then finally in 2013 for the move from TVC to Broadcasting House - It is all based on the original themes created by David Lowe for BBC News. The BBC News Channel seems to have this theory of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and as far as the music is concerned, they are spot on!
@@amrob2 Change it without changing it all. Minor changes to modernize it, but nothing spectacular or significant not to disturb the thousands of international viewers all around the world watching the program all over 24/24, all hooked up by the theme announcing news on the top of the hour, every hour, 24/24, any day, 365 ! Super.
Hey amrob2, Nice mixing, Would love to work with you on this and put the countdown on for you, and a few extra jingles with it just for a hobbyist interest
I would suppose there was a running clock at the lower right hand side on the original footage. How did you remove it ? And do you think you could make new one counting from 1:00:00 to 0:00:00 ? Thank you.
sad face when the last 10 seconds of the hour werent the higher pitched beeps
The best news theme music in the world, no other international broadcaster can beat the BBC.

My favorite study music!
I feel smarter listening to this. Really I do. I just wish it could be downloaded to play as a song because I would love to have it as an alarm clock.
I downloaded it and use it for years as a Ring phone, and never missed important calls since then 😇 !
I love the music arrangement of this theme song.

Man, you saved my quarantine
Lots of love to BBC and UK London...from India Kendale....
Finally the right video - clean and looped!

I Love This The BBC News intro theme.
The BBC was at one time unbiased and the best news broadcaster in the world.
"Dominic Hughes, BBC News.".
Never tire of that lovely little poem.
Big fan of BBC news
I really liked this music. Thank you for making it 1 hour
Only 10 minutes for me, but it still feels fresh. Really uplifting, too. Thanks, Amrob(2)!

Ben McKenna I think it just nice that the Pips (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwich_Time_Signal) get a chance to have some fun. :P
I know they are not the real pips, but I am lead to believe that blips are ment to represent the real pips
