Nissan Qashqai Micra Note Lock problem FIX with needle file?

- Hello. This week we are having a look at the problem with Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Micra and Nissan Note ignition Locks.
These have a problem where a sharp edge develops inside the lock over time. When this happens, the key is very hard to remove.
We've read about the suggested fix of putting a small needle file into the lock and filing the sharp edge. This week we were sent a lock that already had a broken needle file inside!
The piece of the Nissan lock that gets a sharp edge inside is a very important piece. It allows the central locking to work along with the steering lock. It should never be removed!
We offer our own Nissan Lock repair service, find out more here

Removed my Qashqai lock barrel following the advice given here. Posted the item at midday Thursday and received the refurbished unit back in time to refit before midday Saturday following the second part of the video. Lock and new keys working fine now. A 48hour turnaround! Fantastic service and l was phoned for an update and how to pay before it was returned. Wonderful service and l highly recommended. Thanks KK
Thanks so much for the feedback, it's much appreciated :)
Nice to see professional information on you tube instead of the usual rubbish as the man says its the steering lock trigger not a dust cover and requires a proper repair, great video as are your others.
Thanks Martin, appreciate the feedback
Here in US, there is no one selling that part separately. Here, we get most aftermarket parts from ASP, in Europe, they also have OYSTER, of Spain.
A new cylinder CARTRIDGE is the solution. ASP P/N C16-133 and similar.
By replacing the cartridge within the old housing, you get a complete, not worn down cylinder. Rekey to match OE code, and cut fresh keys to that code. This also alleviated the problem of the key STOP material in the lock that is likely worn down.
Excellent video showing the failure point, so I thought adding a solution would pay it forward.
I was so happy to seen Nissan/Subaru get rid of that key design. The new version is far less prone to keys broken in the ignition, though they do wear down fast. I used to excesize patience extracting tips of keys, providing they were not pushed back to the hollow slot in rear of cylinder!
What is the electrical connection in the middle of the barrel for ? cheers malcolm 😊
Did you just drill the pin out to remove the lock barrel ?
Where can i order a new tumbler but thats worn as indicated in your video for 2012 nissan note? Thx
How do i get in contact with you as got the same problem at moment
hi when you refurb theses do you supply a new key too as the problem I have is my steering lock isn't working and when my ignition is on I can pull the key out!
Hi Chris, yes the lock is supplied with two new key blades, two shear bolts and the lock back working as it should :)
thank you so much for the reply I'm guessing the new key blades will still fit the existing door lock
Can you make a vedio if Dacia or Renault duster ignition lock repair problem is the steering is locked even after ignition on
Hello Syanzin. The Dacia and Renault locks have a problem where the parts inside jam. This causes the key to get stuck and also the lock to stop turning. Unfortunately they cannot be stripped down because they are made differently. The answer is a new lock I'm afraid, sorry
Hi how do I get in contact with you as I have a note with this issue
Hope this helps

Hi I have a nissan qashqai 2010 my steering lock and my central locking don't work and my key is getting damaged from having to unlock and lock the driver's door but don't know any good key places to go who can fix it in Wolverhampton in the midland I'm in a desperate position to get it fixed.
Hi Dominic, we offer a postal service, do you have our number?
Hi,
My Mum has this problem on her 2009 Nissan Note. Can I bring her car to you for the lock fix? Or do I need to remove the ignition barrel & just bring/send that to you?
Hi, are you local to us in Lincoln?
No mate, she's in Northampton but driving across to you guys isn't a problem. I'm assuming the saving over what Nissan would want. Would make the trip worthwhile?
Very helpful video's of you Stephen . Thank u so much. It helped solning my stuck key stearing lock problem by replacing that "little thing" problem.
Hi Roberto, glad it helped you :)
Hi Roberto,
I'm having the same problem, where did you get the little part from, do you have a link
Thanks excellent video,, and advice 👌

Whats the wire for?
why would that work the central locking?
Hi do you sell the trigger .After one incl post to s44 6bn mel
No sorry
Dear Sir,
my car is nissan almera luxury 1.5 2001 model. my car ignition switch also has same problem. Car is working fine but key is pull out very easily during car works. And also when i stop car engine, when i push key lock button car never lock doors. If i replaced that small part , is that enough for fix problem? thank you for helping.
It sounds like the widget has broken and is stuck, so that even when you the the key out, the lock still thinks the key is inside and so won't let the central locking work
@@TheCarKeyMan yes sir you are right. If i remove that part manually with one pin central locking system works well. But after stopped my car i can't do every time same procedure. it's very difficult. In this reason i need your advice sir. If i change that parts problem will solve? On the video ignition switch and my car ignition switch same ?
It's difficult without seeing it, but I expect a new lock, or one that is working correctly will solve the problem
@@TheCarKeyMan thank you so much sir.
Where can I get a replacement key blade?
I would suggest finding a good local Auto Locksmith. Why do you need a new key blade?
I have just purchased a qashqai and the steering lock does not work, and neither does central locking, I have just purchased the little dust cover/steering lock mechanism off ebay, if I get a good auto lock smith, would they be able to just replace that part, and then be all good? I wanna tackle it myself but don't know how to dissemble to barel but that you guys refurbished, thanks
Hi Luke, the steering lock mechanisms are poor quality off eBay unfortunately, but yes a good Auto Locksmith could do this for you.
@@TheCarKeyMan thanks for your reply, I only intend to keep the car for 6 months so hopefully the ebay part will hold out
Do you have an affiliate in Ireland you could recommend for doing the same?
Hello Leo, no but we do offer a postal service thecarkeyman.co.uk/key-news/nissan-ignition-key-stuck-repair-service/
Hi I have the problem that the steering lock is activated at 0 and not when I pull my key out. Can this problem be fixed with this repair method ? I have a micra k12 from 2004.
Hi, this is a different type of lock. I expect certain parts are just worn out, but no we don't fix these unfortunately
Dlaczego nie pokazałeś, jak wyciągasz wkładkę? To jest najważniejsze w tej naprawie. Tajemnica???
For the central locking, you can work this around by unplugging the steering lock trigger harness. However, now you can lock the doors with the car's CL button even with the ignition on (at least on a '12 Qashqai), which brings the risk of locking the keys in the car
Can you tell me where you disconnected this from? I'd like to test mine and prove the point before sending it off for repair 😊
@@jamesfranklin5329 You have two harnesses going to the switch hidden by the steering column cover. The beefier one with 5 or 6 wires on the opposite side of the one and a smaller with just two wires near the side. Unplug the second one and check if it's the one by trying to L/U the doors with the remote
@@ranpatoamami7048 Thanks mate I'll give it a try!
Mate thanks so much! This worked so proves a point that I need to get the barrel sorted! Any other risk here in the interim do you know? Is that loom only for the trigger?
@@jamesfranklin5329 Other remotes get ignored when you switch to Acc² or farther, there are no other risks I'm aware of
Hi, thanks for the very instructive video.
My key (Qashaqai 2009) gets stuck in the lock sometimes and the problem is getting worse. I have a couple of questions.
1.Assuming the lock has been worn away, which I believe mine has, and you need a new "lock stock and barrel" do you also need new keys, and the cars central locking alarm etc to be reprogrammed
2.Do you also need locks for those doors / boot with key operated locks?
Regards
Hi Peter. The good thing about Nissan keys is that the blade can be taken out of the black remote easily, they are held together with a small screw.
So, you can just get a new or refurbished lock, swap it over and car will still start because you can still use the original black remotes. Does that make sense?
We can do a good fix on your current lock, and fix 5-10 of these every week. Give us a call on 01522 514141 if you want to find out more.
@@TheCarKeyMan Hi thanks for the prompt response. It all makes sense. Unfortunately I live in Brittany, France. I will give you a call. rgds Peter
Hi Peter, we post internationally. Yes I'm sure we can help
@@TheCarKeyMan thanks again for getting back to me, what would it cost to send me the relevant lock, fixing bolts, keys etc to France? I will see if I can find someone over here to do the work. What do you need in terms of car registration details to match the parts?
????? But ... surely it is the transponder ring ?
Hi, I'm trying to fix this problem and can you please explain how I can remove only the cylinder? I want to change with a new one. Any help is appreciated.
I see there are two pins on the side but I can't understand how to remove them
Hi, my qashqai 09 plate doesn't lock when using the key pad, it makes the locking sound and light flash but car remains open, if I lock the door with the key in the door the slight knock to the key will unlock the car. What could this be please
Hi Sarah-Jayne, if the lights flash, then it's not the key. Maybe t thinks one of the doors is open?
Can you write the instructions into the description?
Hello I would like to ask where I can find to buy this part?
Hi Panos, sorry we don't sell the part individually
hello i have a kia ceed 2010 in which the mechanism for the steering lock doesnt engage when i pull out the key from the ignition. Have to give a little tap at the bottom of the steering wheel which makes the popping sound with which the steering lock engages. The disadvamtage of this is that the car thinks that the keynis still in the ignition so my remote control of the car wont work. I tried lubricating the cylinder with liquid grease sprey and wd40 but it didnt work. Does somebody have any suggestions? Thanks im advance.
Hi, sorry about the delay with this. It sounds like the lock is becoming faulty, tapping is moving something that should be moving freely. I don't know of a way to fix this, sorry

Hi
In my city there is no one who would repair my ignition switch (Győr, Hungary) could you please tell me how to remove the lock itself from the housing? my key is really hard to remove, and the T shaped part which turns the ignition is also broken, now I can start the engine with a screwdriver... But I don't know how to remove the lock from the housing, my other choice is to replace the whole housing with lock to a used one, but I don't want to drill out the original piece, because I have limited number of tools. I would appreciate your help. (my car is 1999 Primera p11 before facelift, but he lock seems same)
Lot of thanks
Hi Norbert. Please send an email to lincolncarkeyman@gmail.com and I'll see how we can help you
Hi Norbert, sorry I missed this, did you get sorted out in the end?
Hi
Really love your work! Great videos to help with remote batteries too!
We have been locksmithing since 1996 and have always done bench repairs and key curting on ignition and door locks.
We struggle to get the spare trigger with this Nissan lock problem.
Just wondered if you could help us?
Kevin.
Hi Kevin, thanks for the kind words. You have a couple of choices. They sell triggers on eBay, but we've tested a few and personally I think they are poor quality, however maybe I was just unlucky.
When we do our repairs we fit specially machined parts that we've had designed and manufactured. They are very expensive but we know they work very well. Unfortunately we don't sell them, sorry
