  • I was able to back the Electric Eel Conewinder's Kickstarter. Rewards just shipped, and I finally got to try it out!
Why use a conewinder instead of a ballwinder? Having your yarn on a cone makes it easy to keep it stable, especially when you're unspooling large amounts of yarn at a time. Yarn also feeds more evenly off a cone. This is particularly true for machine knitters and weavers when they're warping.
This is a really great product, and I'd highly recommend it if you're in the market for a conewinder.
As of today, there are a handful available on the Electric Eel website (no waiting for a Kickstarter!) and more coming in January or February 2024.

Seems a bit of a pain to set up. Sounds quite noisy too.

It was a little bit frustrating to set up for the first time, but I think subsequent setups should go a lot more smoothly. The instructions were really very good! As for the noise, it’s definitely not silent, but I think my microphone made it sound louder than it really is.
