For all the people that are confused about why the normal razor results in ‘darker thicker’ hair than the little one... First of all the hair does never grow back thicker or darker than before. It feels thicker because over time the little hairs rub off on the ends what makes them thinner and softer. When you shave off the thin/soft end you create a harsh/blunt end wich will look and feel thicker because you shaved off the thin end. Second of all the hair doesn’t get darker but again looks like it because over time the little thin ends became light because of sun exposure. When you shave away the light ends the dark ‘unexposed’ ends will grow and be shown and appear darker then normal. Now... The normal razor can make the hairs look ‘darker/thicker’ because it shaves really sharply and close to the skin. While the little razor kind off diagonally slices off the hairs wich results in less harsh cuts and more ‘soft’ and diagonal cuts. Those will leave a thinner end that will not be so dark becaude the sun exposure works way faster on the thin end than on the thick end(wich is created by a normal razor) Hope this was helpfull and not too complicated❤️ wish I could show pictures to explain it even better. I struggle with a little bit of a mustache, and doing this has made a HUGE difference in my makeup application! Anyone else here have a slight mustache? 🤣
The reason the hair may come back "darker" or "thicker" is because especially with a heavy razor it cuts the hair more bluntly instead of tapered, so the hair grows back with a straight blunt top. The single razor meant for the face gives you more control to shave at a tapered angle! So with a regular razor it just appears darker or thicker, but it won't actually change the hair
I like to put pure aloe vera gel (straight from the plant) on my face after shaving. I chill it first and then rub the whole thing over my face and it helps so much! If left on all night and rinsed off in the morning, it helps the skin much more.
Thanks for the tip I shaved my face for the first time and noticed lots of redness and razor bumps.. I don’t think I was pressing hard then again it was my first time I sat here googling what a good product was until I came back to this video and peeked at the comments lol thanks for the tip! Totally forgot about aloe! And I have a plants all over my home 🥰
Emily LaBonte I used to want that too until she did a series of Snapchat stories about it and was like, ummm nm. I will go broke trying to buy a quarter of this stuff! 👀 lol
She has said before she doesn't wanna post a skincare routine here because everything she uses is expensive and she understands not everyone has $500 for skincare
Her skincare routine was worth about thousand dollars, (that’s just the stuff she showed.) Nothing against her or anyone else I just think the contrast in her budget compared to most is too drastic and people get upset.
Adilynn's Headquarters not on me! Maybe a bit more blunt because you’re shaving it blunt (it doesn’t grow out tapered) but I don’t really notice it. I don’t have dark hair on my face to begin with, but on me it grows back the same
“No - shaving hair doesn't change its thickness, color or rate of growth. Shaving facial or body hair gives the hair a blunt tip. ... During this phase, the hair might be more noticeable and perhaps appear darker or thicker - but it's not.” For anybody worried about hair growing darker or thicker. It literally doesn’t. It doesn’t even make sense when you think about it
I feel like the last 6 months to a year you’ve been so much more real and authentic! 💗 love how happy and genuine you seem...also the highlight chunky factor is a reality for me so ... this video is super helpful 👍🏻
jessica. Schaefer SAAAAAME! I was like “Joslyn no matter what you will not get convinced to shave your face” *5 minutes into the video* “yeah I need to shave my face” 😂😂😂
I love Jaclyn but the scientist in me just wants to clarify for everyone: shaving does not make hair grow back thicker or darker no matter what you use. Hair can thicken or darken over time - but shaving has nothing to do with it!!! no shade or tea, just science (love you Jac💕 glad to see you so happy now!!)
Ivey Fisher I think what confuses people is when the hair is shaved it’s like more blunt vs how it naturally grows. But yeah I thought the same thing lol.
@@Jessrole That's because when you shave you change the direction of its growth, so it grows all weird and that's why people think it's thicker when in fact your DNA is what determines how your hair grows not what you use to shave it.
This is true! I've actually read that your hair should not grow back thicker or darker when you start shaving it. If it does it is caused by a hormonal imbalance and you should see your doctor. I was paranoid and researched the crap out of it before the razor touched my face. Been doing it for years now and so far so good.
I started shaving my face a year ago. The whole darker thicker face hair hasn't happened for me. You just do it weekly as part of your skin care routine. I actually found out my Aunt who is in her 60's does it as well.
I've been shaving under my brows for years! Great trick. And Jaclyn is SO right - your makeup lays so much better when your face is shaved. Not only does it get rid of all that peach fuzz, but it also gently exfoliates your skin. It's amazing!
I just turned 50 and I've been doing this for 30 years, I'm a human peach if I didn't. I've never had a problem with hair growing in thicker or coarser. After shaving be kind to skin ...wash, and use a coconut oil facial mask. I swear this is the reason I'm fortunate to have retained younger looking skin. Once you try it your skin will thank you for it.
I'm 50 too and I concur on every point here! Also, you don't have to shave your face dry. I use a good facial cleanser like Cetaphil and warm water. It softens the hairs and makes them easier to trim. Plus, the warm water opens up your pores making it easier to clean out oil and residue that causes breakouts. Follow it up with a mask and some moisturizer, oil or serum.
Pam Pinese Yes in the younger looking skin! I’ve been shaving for 19 years (since I was 15) and I attribute my wrinkle-free skin to the shaving. My mom thought I was crazy when I shaved my face ( I WAS 15), but I’ve never regretted one bit!
I used to get really bad cystic acne, and I LOVED going over any zits after they had completely healed. Spot treatments or oils [like tea tree] tend to be very drying, and it's soo satisfying to get all that dead skin off afterwards! :)
@@EmilyZapotocny I dont know if mine is cystic. I tried this exfoliating scrub from Sally's and it dried my face SO bad. Skin was crusting off like extreme dandruff on my face. And I have oily skin!! I'm so sensitive so it's super hard to find strong treatments to keep the acne at bay but also not damage my skin even more :/
In the beginning this I was like wtf Jaclyn? Now 10 minutes in I'm calling up my best friend trying to convince her to do it with me! 😂 Needless to say we're meeting in 20 minutes to go to Target for the right razors.
I've shaved twice now, it grows back but definitely not darker or thicker! When I shaved it made my face feel funny since your skin now feels everything the peach fuzz protected it from. But I'm going to keep doing it
Mishal Sheikh she hates hair that’s not on her head, I’m the same way, doesn’t mean I think everyone needs to shave or that I NEED to shave, i do it BC i really like feeling my skin super soft
So about four years ago I bought a Groupon for something called dermaplaning which said it would rejuvenate my face, take away dead skin, and make my skin feel softer and better. It did! Turns out it was just a medical professional shaving my face with medical grade instruments! Now I do it on my own. I don't have a beard I don't even have fine hair I just want that top layer of dead skin gone and it's so much easier than exfoliating all of the time. A couple quick swipes and boom boom boom baby butt- soft skin. I love that you're sharing this Jaclyn, because women are stigmatized about shaving their faces no matter what it's for. Whether you're shaving a beard or just shaving off dead skin it shouldn't matter you should be able to shave your face if you want to! Bravo Jaclyn this is why you're my favorite!
Dermaplaning is different because it actually penetrates down to the dermis. It’s the deepest form of exfoliation Which is why it’s better than using a razor. It’s literally a 10 blade scalpel getting much much more than a $5 pack of razors. Paying someone to dermaplane you is the best investment anyone can do. It sloughs off the dead skin cells. It’s amazing.
@@marilynmargetts8517 I had dermaplaning done professionally 4 times and the results were very nice but shaving my face (carefully) semi-frequently gives me very similar results. It's an option if someone can't afford to get dermaplaning. Though I got mine in a 4 pack from Groupon for a very good price so I would definitely recommend anyone who's interested to check there for deals!
As a latina we are mostly hair 🤣🤣 shaving my face is seriously a game changing experience and if your foundation doesn't stick how you would like it - I honestly recommend it. But like Jaclyn said- PROCEEDED WITH CAUTION!
@@sarahgayton8103 I have had to do it a couple times but I would recommend using a moisturizer or a little shaving cream. I'm not a professional, I just kind of do what has worked out best for me.
She recently did a skincare routine on SC or IG (can’t remember which), but she uses: La Mer Gel Cleanser La Mer Tonic La Mer Soft Cream Bio2 cosmeceuticals spray & gel (you can google it & find them on their site) Sanitas Brightening Peel pads Sanitas Peptiderm Eye Cream Sanitas Hyaluronic mist AQ solutions growth factor serum & eye serum or cream And I know there’s a vitamin c I’m forgetting but if you type Jaclyn Hill skincare or snaps, it’ll show you all of it. Someone put up a video showing the snap.
I want to try this but I know it's one of those things that once you start, you have to keep doing it and I'm totally not ready for that type of commitment 😭😅
I have horribly thick peach fuzz and I decided to trim it off with a hair trimmer and now I have black hairs around my chin. Like the neck portion. BUT no hair on my actual face grew back black. It didn’t grow thicker but my hair grows fast like I have to trim/shave twice a week. So think about how fast your hair on your body grows. If it’s fast maybe it’s too much maintenance for you. If it’s slow maybe it won’t be too bad
Videos like this are the reason we all fell in love with you! Honest, funny, and educational! Thank you for all of your content and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
Yessss!! I’m a licensed esthetician and I do a service called dermaplaning which is basically the same thing! The difference is that I’m licensed and can use a straight blade instead of a guarded razor like you use and it take off sooooo much more dead skin!! It’s AMAZING. 😍
You should have sun screen on your face no matter what to prevent pigmentation and aging. But any dermaplaning or chemical peels. You should definitely use sunscreen after as you become more sensitive after removing layers of skin due to the exfoliation.
Alicia escobedo depending on your skin tone it can make you prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is much more likely with sun exposure... anyways you should always apply sunscreen 2-3 times a day!!! It won’t make it easier to sun damage (by sun damage I mean photoaging: ritides, spots and cancer) because here you are only taking of the stratum corneum (the most superficial layer of the skin), and what mostly protects the skin cells of UV radiation is melanin which is produced by the melanocytes, and these cells are in the basal layer of the epidermis, which is not being removed here, melanocytes produce melanin and store it into melanosomes and then deliver it to keratinocytes (the main component of skin cells) and then melanin will deposit over the nucleus (almost like an umbrella) protecting the DNA)... whatever you are planning to do with your skin I strongly recommend to consult first with a board certified dermatologist AAD
I either shave my own face or my esthetician does dermaplaning on me! I absolutely love it! I’ve done this for years and No the hair does not grow back darker!
Make-up Lover been doing it for 20yrs (I’m 40 now ) and my friend that would wax , has the worse dark spots , I believe all that waxing damaged and peeled off the outermost upper epidermis layer of skin
Klaus Rostock I can totally believe that. I’m a cosmetologist and I do a lot of waxing but not everyone is the right candidate for it. Medications can greatly affect your surface of your skin and how it will grow back. I have pcos that causes me to grow more facial hair than normal and lose hair on my scalp. I use those little razors every couple of days!
I love your background ✨✨please do more backgrounds like that, it feels comfy 😊and I see that you’re not getting more lip fillers! They look waaaaaay better natural 💛

Jaclyn!!! My advice as an esthetician, you are probably over exfoliating which is causing you to develop rosacea!! From shaving your face, as well as using harsh exfoliants either too many times a week possibly. The peach fuzz protects your skins natural defense barrier, without it will cause you skin to dry out more and develop numerous types of sensitivity... the worse is over time will cause hyperpigmentation and your skin to age faster. Love your videos girl, please be mindful of your skins health 😩❤️

Stephanie Lange (I hope I spelled that right) has some great tutorials & tips for eye makeup application for hooded eyes (I have them too so I feel you)!
For all the ladies asking if it grows back thicker/darker. I’ve been doing this for going on 4 years since I watched Michelle Money do it. I have naturally dark thick curly hair EVERYWHERE, except on my face where the peach fuzz grows. Seriously my brows and lashes are so thick and curly even they’re hard to manage. But shaving the peach fuzz off of my face (all of it like Jaclyn), has never grown back thicker or darker, not once. But you do notice when it grows back because after seeing fresh gorgeous smooth glowing skin, you start to notice it dulling again and products not “sitting right” then you know it’s time to do it again. If you’re nervous about trying, do one side just from your side burn area down, not under the eye, lip etc just that one area. Let it grow back in, and see for yourself. ❤️❤️

I don’t think I was pressing hard then again it was my first time I sat here googling what a good product was until I came back to this video and peeked at the comments lol thanks for the tip! Totally forgot about aloe! And I have a plants all over my home 🥰
Jaclyn forget shaving! Sis we need a 2019 skin care routine.
Yessss! This needs a shitload of likes so she sees it!!
Also shaving the peach fuzz off will help any skincare absorb a lot more and faster.

This is my favorite type of background and lighting for you!! 😍 I started shaving my face a few months ago and I’m obsessed
Does your hair grow back stubbly? that is what I would worry about lol
I agree. I like the background being the room and not a back drop and the lighting is very flattering. You look beautiful Jaclyn!
Adilynn's Headquarters not on me! Maybe a bit more blunt because you’re shaving it blunt (it doesn’t grow out tapered) but I don’t really notice it. I don’t have dark hair on my face to begin with, but on me it grows back the same
Tabitha Gingerich yesss👏🏻
@@tabithagingerich awesome thank you!!!

Conspiracy theory: regular razors contain hair growth serum in the "soothing strips" to keep you buying them consistently 😱 lol
Murry Moon 🤣😟🤭
I mean we can’t disprove this theory 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤯
It’s actually numbing gel so it doesn’t hurt when you cut yourself MK did a full video on razors
I’m going to put that shit in my eyebrows
You're almost right! The growth serum is in shaving creams, the idea is that, if the hair grows back faster, you're less prone to ingrowns
Ivey Fisher then ?
Ivey Fisher I think what confuses people is when the hair is shaved it’s like more blunt vs how it naturally grows. But yeah I thought the same thing lol.
@@Jessrole That's because when you shave you change the direction of its growth, so it grows all weird and that's why people think it's thicker when in fact your DNA is what determines how your hair grows not what you use to shave it.
Odd I was always told the same thing
This is true! I've actually read that your hair should not grow back thicker or darker when you start shaving it. If it does it is caused by a hormonal imbalance and you should see your doctor. I was paranoid and researched the crap out of it before the razor touched my face. Been doing it for years now and so far so good.
I’ve been shaving my face since high school. Got so much hate for it 😂
But it’s a total game changer!
Cinda Brewer Same here, girl. I only started bc I didn’t like how my side burns grew. Now, it’s routine. I like men’s razors bc they’re sharper. 😊

Did you experience your hair getting darker or thicker? I’m afraid to start shaving but I know I need it 😭
I started shaving my face a year ago. The whole darker thicker face hair hasn't happened for me. You just do it weekly as part of your skin care routine. I actually found out my Aunt who is in her 60's does it as well.
you should makeup on your face with one side shaved and one not so we can see the difference!!
kailey grace yes good idea would like to see the difference.
Yes!!!
I don't think the camera would be able to pick up the differences that great
kailey grace What a good idea!
If you type in Jaclyn Hill Skincare on RUclips, Beauty Guru Snaps has the actual Snapchat she did recently.
Pam Pinese thank you I was wondering what to do after 😂 thank you
I'm 50 too and I concur on every point here!
So your face never feels prickly?? That's what I'm so afraid of!
__Is that a thing? _ _ Never ....if I didn't shave I'd have just peach fuzz....never prickly nor has my facial hair come in thick or black
This seems so much easier with clear skin . If I did this I’d slice all the big ass pimples on my face 😂🙃
Lol right! I was thinking the same thing.

I used to get really bad cystic acne, and I LOVED going over any zits after they had completely healed. Spot treatments or oils [like tea tree] tend to be very drying, and it's soo satisfying to get all that dead skin off afterwards! :)

So..r u bald?
Mishal Sheikh she hates hair that’s not on her head, I’m the same way, doesn’t mean I think everyone needs to shave or that I NEED to shave, i do it BC i really like feeling my skin super soft
Same. :)
Thanks for sharing. I had been considering dermaplaning as well. So the process is the same? No big difference?!
Dermaplaning uses a medical grade scalpel
@@marilynmargetts8517 thank you so much for the info! I appreciate it! :) take care

Nah, sometimes I do it weekly and sometimes I forget for a month and the only thing that can make a hair dark is hormones, not shaving.

Yessss!! I’m a licensed esthetician and I do a service called dermaplaning which is basically the same thing! The difference is that I’m licensed and can use a straight blade instead of a guarded razor like you use and it take off sooooo much more dead skin!! It’s AMAZING. 😍
Is it normal for my skin to now feel "sticky" after applying my normal skincare products??

Thank you! A sensible comment!
As an esthetician do you not recommened shaving the peach fuzz off the face on a regular basis?

For the broken capillaries and telangiectasia do the excel V laser! I work in a Dermatology office and we always do the Excel V laser for them and they’re generally gone in 2-3 treatments!
Kelsey J Yes it’s awesome, and start early too! I waited until I was 44 so I had A LOT of broken capillaries!
Hope she sees this comment though
why do we get the broken capillaries?
@@allyg8977 Hereditary, alcohol, too much scrubbing of skin.
@@allyg8977 They're usually caused by some sort of disturbance to the skin. So that could be smoking, drinking, sun damage or "trauma" to the skin like excessive microderm treatments or excessively popping your pimples. As we get older our skin becomes more thin and fragile and its easier to see the broken blood vessels. :)
Lol I shave my sideburns because that's where I break out the most from acne then I have these three stubborn man hairs underneath my chinny chin chin... when the hair is gone my complexion looks more even
Nae West I get really thick black hairs under my chin too! I don’t have any sisters, and I’m part Russian, but my mom isn’t, so she didnt really understand the extra hair! Its so nice to hear that im not a freak lol
@@si.vis.pacem_para.bellum7608 awww no way your a freak... my chin hair runs in the family I remember my great-grandmother plucking hairs in the mirror and we used to make jokes with her because her hands Shake and she needed help plucking them then a year after she passed away that's when my chin hair started growing in and some of the women in my family as well now we feel like she is looking down upon us laughing
I'm 20 and already getting chin hairs haha also runs in the family. I got too insecure about it when it first started happening but what can ya do 🤷🏻♀️ always good to know I'm not alone!
Nae West uggghh those are my problem areas too. Sideburns and chin 😭😭😭
I use an eyebrow razor to shave my face too! I do it after my shower when my face is dry. I’ve been doing it for a while now and definitely helps my skin 😁
The razor she is using is amazing... this was so easy and feels amazing!!! I wish someone told me to do this years ago!!!!
I just came back to your channel today and wow!!!! Your energy is SO different, in a good way!! I love it 😍.
you radiate happiness 😭💓
ruvi zavala I was LITERALLY thinking the same thing! She looks so happy and its natural. I love it ❤️
I watched the first five minutes and went straight to Amazon and bought a 3 pack of the Tinkle razors
Tinkle razors really are the best, they make your skin so much smoother and glowier when you shave 👼
Wait women weren’t shaving their face before she mentioned it? Im-
Chikin stripz i want to try it but I’m so scared my hair is going to grow back thicker/darker! She didn’t really address it in the video. Plz y’all give me some tips and let me know!!!
@@Lexi-M that's a myth. Look it up
@@Lexi-M it won't girl don't worry 😉
It’s true that it’s a myth, you could end up with some ingrown hairs because of clogged pores, but that can happen either way, but still you can totally shave and it will grow back the same and like she said about it exfoliating too, it works so well!! I do it once a week.
It doesn’t grow back thicker but since you cut off the follicle straight you get a flat top. So it does appear thicker but it doesn’t grow thicker.
I love this video!! It almost feels like a big sister style video. Body hair is a real thing that we all have and it's awesome that you're sharing your technique Jaclyn!! so much love
OMG Jaclyn! You are much more beautiful without makeup 😍😍😍😍
