    Kudos for pointing out the input threshold. I'm playing single coils and lower output was causing my notes to get choked when I held out long hits. I'm surprised no one else on RUclips has talked about this yet. Definitely a vibe killer when your guitar just stops dead in its tracks at the end of a song.

    Truth be told, the MX5 has to be one of the most devastating and destructive devices to happen to my playing and my music in a long time. Before purchasing it I had been working on no less than 20 new and original tunes ... and coming from an old Boss GT6 .... well, this little processor is quite amazing. I spend most of my time now in a trance, creating rig after rig like a man possessed, and I'm sure I won't stop until there is no space left for storage. The songs are all on hold until I am able to come back to Earth and to reality. I'm sure glad I recorded rough cuts of all those songs before I bought this thing.

      Its fun to explore sounds but finding around 5-10 rigs that you can use on a consistent basis is about all you need.

      @@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Ever since Johan Segeborn tipped me off to the fact that I prefer Plexi Marshalls over Fender for clean tones my list went to about 3. Granted I don't really have much use for the Mesa 2c/III sound these days, but still. I can do about everything I want with an JCM800 (though I do use Plexi for cleans, I could do it with an 800), and an AC30.

      I get it. Its easy to go down the rabbit hole. I set up 3 different rigs on the MX5. When I used my amp I only used 2 sounds anyway. Avoid the temptation to "studio" your brain! Hope this helps. "Clean, dirty and lead"

      I got my MX5 last night. FIrst thing I did after skimming a few of the presets (which I'm mostly not a fan of), I started building my first rig. I probably spent a good hour last night just auditioning all the different reverb/delay options. I could REALLY kill a lot of time with this thing.

    Really helpful video thanks. I've been struggling with the volume of the MX5 being much much quieter than when plugging straight into the amp and this has helped greatly with bringing the volume through the pedal up to a comparative level - thanks!

    I’m loving your tutorials really helps me a lot, although I have to watch them several times…. As I have an old brain 😊. They have enabled me to set my mx5 up for our gigs, so any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

    Hi mate. I purchased an MX5 as a back-up for my Headrush Pedal Board. I copied all my rigs across and for some reason, the MX5 is producing a much higher output than my pedalboard on the same setting, to the extent that it is distorting a clean channel through the PA. I have checked all the input/output and amp settings and they have all copied over exactly the same. Could the issue be that I have to use a standard output jack rather than my usual xlr from the Pedalboard? Many thanks.

    Your videos are just excellent! Dude.. could you tell me how I can restore the factory settings on the MX5? I got to see a video or another about how to do it on the pedal board and gig board. But on the MX5 I'm not finding how to do it!

      You can hold down switches 2 and 3 while powering on the unit. Thanks for watching.

    does this unit color your signal running straight into an amp? can I bypass everything on it running it directly to an amp for a dry amp signal and then use just the effects on it when needed? the bypass is important. I sent the helix and hx stomp back cause both colored the signal slightly enough to be annoying.

    Looking to get a MX5 want to run this in a tube amp
    FX loop and maybe front or both 4 cable method
    What things needs to be turned off I’ve been watching some of your videos it looks like there is quite a bit to remember and do in all
    The settings as with this video you did here
    the tone i.e . Don’t forget to turn this off , turn this up turn that off !!! i know there is learning curves but how much diving do you really have to do to get going here ? I’ve looked at the HX effects and I was interested until watching all the videos of quiet a few people being lost on use even folks having them for several months still completely lost does Headrush not have there own base to help or I guess they might but takes to long to answer any questions you might have on owning one these units I understand can’t answer everything and it’s great that there is heat guys like yourself making vids for guys already owning these but for consumer like myself that might be interested but haven’t taken the plunge just yet .. As with others it’s appreciated for what your doing I won’t be buying one to soon until I see more of what it’s all about just about purchased one today but i bowed out .but that’s why I’m here to see ends and outs

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  Год назад

      Its really simple. With 4 cable method you just need the FX Loop block in the chain then put the dirt pedals before the loop and wet fx after the loop. I usually keep my Master knob around 7.

      Headrush does not have a mic pre so no this is not possible. The Headrush Looperboard can accept mic signals.

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios

      Latency is effected by the buffer size in your DAW. Try a 64 or 128 buffer size.

    At 4:16 why is your input signal hitting zero when the input gain is turned down to -60? Something is fishy. Sorry man, your advice is exactly backwards. You have to set up your input gain first, to make sure you are not clipping the input nor is the signal is too weak to drive the pedals and amps in the chain. This is especially important on MX5 because it has a very hot input. I turn mine down to -20 to get the indicator jumping up to zero at the highest peaks on the strongest pickup but not staying parked there all the time (which is too hot). You also have your gate and noise filter here, which is good for single coils and saves you an FX block in the chain, coz the input gate already takes care of the noise. Then you can set up you pedal and amp drive and levels and only then you adjust the output level. Why did you have it backwards? And why is your signal too hot with -60db input gain? What's going on?

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  2 месяца назад

      The Input meter is pre fader so you won't actually see the input meter change regardless of where you have your input set. The vast majority of pickups should be in the same range except for some really hot Active pickups.

    • @Andrey.Balandin
      @Andrey.Balandin 2 месяца назад

      @@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Wow, that's a shocker. Thanks, I didn't realize that! But it's also obviously a bug - who needs a meter that doesn't show the actual level? The output meter is implemented correctly - post-fader. With input meter not showing the actual signal level going into the signal chain, you are left with relying on your ear to match different guitars and avoid clipping.... I have reported this issue to Headrush.
