According to the Brazilian news magazine Fantástico- which is brazilian for Fantastic -, he adopted various personas including a soap opera actor, music producer, and real estate mogul facing financial hardships.

Hamish Earle McLaren, a notorious conman from Sydney, lived a life straight out of a thriller movie, swindling over $7.6 million from unsuspecting victims including high-profile individuals and close companions. From 2011 to 2017, McLaren duped 16 people, including the well-known Australian fashion designer Lisa Ho and his then-girlfriend Tracey Hall.

A man from Miami fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam, losing $42,000 to a scammer posing as an executive from Estee Lauder. This scammer, who called herself Mindy Li, connected with him on Instagram in December of 2023. Believing he was investing in Ethereum, a leading cryptocurrency, the man began with small amounts between $500 to $1,000 on a platform called Crypto.com, where he initially saw profits.

Atuonah Cynthia Chioma, a 21-year-old woman from Anambra State, Nigeria, found herself in custody after allegedly swindling a 50-year-old German man, Rudolf Markus Kampf, out of $220,000. Chioma, a recent economics graduate and business owner, was arrested by the Police Special Fraud Unit in Nigeria.

I find it very disturbing that some adults rush to send money to scammers who are total strangers to them, and they know zero thing about them, and then they start complaining and blaming everyone but themselves. People have to be very vigilant and very careful with their money. Unfortunately, nowadays, scams come in all sorts of different ways. People are responsible for their stupid, illogical, unreasonable and irresponsible actions and obviously the banks and the public are not.
