    Thanks so much for a really enjoyable VLOG series on Denmark. We plan to tour there in May and you've given us a really good insight and the best takeaway in Pintrip (now ordered). :)

    The last train ferry took it's trip in 1997, because at that time all three main landmasses had been connected by bridge and a tunnel, storebælt (which the trains run in a tunnel under the sea) and lillebælt. Which was a much much more cost efficient and time efficient way of getting trains across the sounds. We transported trains this way for 114 years.

      Technically the last train ferry in all of Denmark closed just last year, that being the Rødby Puttgarden line which connected the small island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn. The boat no longer takes trains onboard as the railways on both sides are being upgraded to accommodate the higher speeds and increased traffic from the new Fehmarn belt tunnel under the water, set to be completed in 2029. In the meantime the trains take a quick detour through Jylland.

    The name Odense indicates its origins in the Viking Age. In Viking times, there was a pagan shrine, a vi, in the area, and the town's name probably comes from the shrine's name, Odin's Vi. This name is then later developed in several steps to the current name of the city.

    Middelfart is a market town on Funen, with 15,922 inhabitants. The city is located in Middelfart Municipality and belongs to the Region of Southern Denmark. The old name Melfar means "the water you travel between" or "the middle crossing" and thus refers to the ferry traffic between Jutland and Funen. Wikipedia

    Thanks for the tour of the railway museum. Loved your overnight stop with the pigs, chickens and dog 🐖 looked lovely. The pintrip thing seems so good for overnight stops. Great that they have all the service points at the motorway services, how nice if they introduced that into the UK. 🤣 can’t see that ever happening sadly ! Mention of gin... yes please 🍸🍸🍸 Cheers both, Michelle and Andy 🚐😉🙌

    You should have gone to Egeskov castle while on Fyn. It has a veteran car museum. Then you would have done the Trains, Planes and Automobiles of Denmark ;) Love your channel and feel free to butcher our language :) Happy travels

    I'm so glad you guys have enjoyed your time here in Denmark, we truly appreciate it. Also I'm just saying you guys totally butchered the pronunciation of Odense, but Nyborg was spot on! Speaking of Odense, did you guys know it's the hometown of Hans Christian Andersen? The Ugly duckling, the little mermaid, the tinderbox, the snow queen, the little matchsticks girl, all those stories. Yup he grew up there and there's a massive HC Andersen museum inside and behind his original childhood home. Though it's being completely rebuilt at the moment so you guys would likely not have been able to visit anyway. Plus you guys did already get to experience a townscape similar to his neighborhood when you went to Ribe (yeah pretty much every town in Denmark looked like that back when he was writing his fairytales). But anyways can't wait to see where you guys head on to from here and again I'm just glad you enjoyed your time here.

      Thank you DrDewott! Yeah, we kinda know we butchered the name of Odense - we asked a few people in the city how to say it, and they all seemed to say it a little differently! Thanks for the HC Andersen tip, as we mentioned in the vid, we'd been to Odense before and had explored a lot of that, plus we like to show a few 'alternative' attractions on our vids - most people would go to Odense for the HC Andersen connection, but we wanted to show somewhere different! We loved Denmark, thanks mainly to all the lovely Danes we met along the way! Cheers!

    Wonderful trip around our beautiful island of Fyn - you've really met the differences in even from even one area from the other. When a child - especially in the 1955-1961 years - I saw/tried many of the types of lovely old trains we had here, like those you have shown us :-) - Love it that you had a nice time (again) in Denmark. And that beer at the end - 9+(7?) something :-) Instead of sleeping pills :-) :-)

    The Middlefart story is hilarious. Been meaning to ask you. What's your camera setup? What are you using?

    • @nextstopevwhere
      @nextstopevwhere  4 года назад

      Middelfart... *giggle!* Camera set up - we use just one main camera, a Canon M50 camera, with a Rode mini mic on top, with a standard Canon lens and a telephoto lens (although rarely use the latter in fairness), and a really simple, cheap monopod for some stability on still shots. We also have a Go-Pro Hero 7 with vehicle mount, which is what we use to get the driving shots and anything where the big camera can't go. We also occasionally shoot stuff on our phones (both of us have Samsung S10). Not a complicated set up - no lights, no big mics, nothing like that - just enough that we can go anywhere with it, feel comfortable and not draw too much attention.

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail 4 года назад +1

      Next Stop Everywhere we basically just use our GoPro 8. We have a Nikon D5600 that we use for stills. It does ok for video but the GoPro is just so compact. You video is very clear and sharp. We in know a lot of people are using the M50 but it’s more investment. Maybe one day.

    if you translate "Nyborg" it is literally "Newcastle", also your first attempt at saying it was almost spot on.

      You mean we actually got one right?! Trust it to be the last place on the last vid... doh! Thanks for the info too, we didn't know it translated as that, although looking at the word, we probably could have figured it out!

    Fart means speed, pace, headway among other things - We recycle a lot of words. It also means move.
    In old lifts a sign lit up, when the lift was on the move. Rumour has it, that when Queen Elisabeth II visited, all those signs in the lifts, she was going to use, were covered, as the signs read I FART

    Your not the first "Brits", that think "Middelfart" is funny 🤣 ! In Danish "Middel" can mean Medium or average, and "Fart" can mean Speed or in movement. Fun fact! When I was a Teenager (many many moons ago), Queen Elisabeth II (yeah, your Queen), visited CPH. She was invited to visit some building (for some reason). Now back then, The Elevators (lifts) had a lighted sign that showed that the lift was "in movement" (in Danish "I Fart" 😎). Obviously, the sign was removed, until The Queen had left 😁 ! True story!

  • @GRANDIPRGROUPTravel
