Very well explained video, and what a beautiful transformation of Märklin's M rail which seemed obsolete compared to other tracks, well done, bravo! Et aussi pour votre bonne humeur!
Thanks for the video. It's great to get some inspiration from Scandinavia, especially since not all paints and glues used in UK and USA are available in Denmark - 'Swedish' products are ! Happy modelling ... Cheers - Peter
Peter Hampton Thank you Peter! 👍😊 I’m trying to use materials available everywhere.. Good to hear the stuff is available in Denmark. 👍 BUT! Life is a learning experience.. Toilet paper for instance.. I didn’t have a single thought about most people in the world don’t use it at all and don’t have it.. Anyway.. I’m learning..
For instance - I've been looking for som RailMatch paint in Denmark, unfortunately without any luck, so I tried to order some in the good old UK ... and guess what - it's not possible to send fluids by post over the English Channel og the North Sea. However toilet paper is available in Denmark. LOL
Hello Marklinofsweden. Best wishes for 2018 with a lot of video's comming! Nice M-track ballast-tutorial 2.0! I ballast the M-track with aquariumsand and paint it with acrylics. Works fine for me, but I'm considdering to add the dust ;-) From me one tip: I put a little piece of aluminium-tape under the fixing-holes of the rails, so there is no hole when the ballast is applied! Greetings, Erik.
Hello. The third rail conectors tend to fail with time and dead areas apear. How do you prevent this from happening? How about an individual feeder wire soldered to every track section?
If you have not created a video on the subject of a sawmill yard, is there any possible way that you could that. Some of us have those along our tracks where we live and because of that we might want to add one of them to our layout.
Nice update to the technique. I was planning to use the 1.0 version on my c track layout in the coming years. How did you clean the studs? I ask as the c-track studs are not as smooth as the m-track studs. I suppose taping up the center to protect them from glue and paint will be critical.
Looks great, I will try that in my m rails. What did you use below the rail? Some kind of fleece? And does it lower the noise output to a "c track on plain wood" level? :D
What is the spike stuff in the middle of the sleeper on the marklin track??????? It's not on hornby or peco track or real life so what does it do??? Is it for censers? A 3rd rail fitting?
This was the cheapest track system I could find. It´s really a 60s toy train, but it was the only system I could afford. I hate the spikes, but one learn to live with them..
That's the equivalent of a third rail. Each one of the spikes is grounded and the vehicle's pick-up shoe glides above these spikes and grounds its motor(s) through them. Now, depending on which remaining rail (left or right) you apply the transformer AC voltage, the motor(s) will either spin left or right (moving the vehicle forward or back).
@@marklinofsweden since you are the only one (I know on the internet) who still uses this system, I wonder: is there any real difference between marklin AC and a prototypical DC system in terms of operation? like... are the AC motors running smoother or... is there any difference besides the the third rail?
hey marklinofsweden! how do you keep your installation clean? with that much detail on it, it'll be nearly possible to vaccum it, right? how do you keep it dust proof?
HAFFL Hi! 😊 Thank you for commenting! Most of the dust in a normal home comes from textiles like curtains, carpets, cloths, bettlinen and stuff. I have my layout in the garage, which has pretty clean air. The ventilations for air intake comes from outside and do not contain dust. So... I don’t have to vacuum the layout the way I woulf have to in a living room for instance..
That is a good question. For me, I have it in a spare bedroom so I put mesh filters in the vents. They are cheap and you can rinse them under water after a while to clean them. IF you must vacuum, use a hepa filter.
I did this before with K track but the trains never ran well on it again. I was very careful not to get the center rail but some glue got on it. I was surprised you just let the glue get on it and your trains still worked! Could it have to do with the kind of glue or do you have a special way of cleaning it after the ballast without removing the good stuff?
arnold894 Hi Arnold! Intresting information! Okay.. No, I have not had any problems after ballasting the M-rail like this. I do nothing else than just sanding the center rail clean once all is dry.
Hi Gary! 👍😊 Nice to hear from you! Thank you! I’ll catch up with Platform 1MRC and post video links. I miss the forum, but had very little time over the last year.
Didier Goossens Hi Didier! Thank you for the positive feedback! 👍😊 Yes, this 2.0 is really a move forward. It looks better and it enabled you to use Lux track cleaning cars and vacuum the track for cleaning.
mark when the train goes into the yard and picks up several other cars comming out there is abump in the rail joiners you might want to drimmel it smoth
Sonny Latchstring Yes.. A strip of masking tape on the rear side of the tracks along the center stud lead gives additional improved look If the tracks can be prepared ahead of assembly. In my case they were already in place on the layout, so I couldn’t do that..
Your videos are so relaxing, and satisfying, in that whatever you do, fits it at first attempt. Watching it so much soul-healing!

Merci boucoup Verholen!
The result is looking fantastic! Thanks again for this tutorial.

Erik Nieuwenhuis Hi! Thank you for the tip about the tape! 👍😊 Wish you all the best for 2018! 🎉🍾
Another great video, thank you! Oh man, I have tons of m track just waiting!
Larry Rydman Good to hear Larry! 👍👍👍
Will you have problems with rust , using water and paint like that on the M-track ?
Great video, good tips with the glue and paints.. look forward to your next video. Skol!
Great working
Very nice and helpful
great, cool, and simply
Thank you Edgardo!
Tutoriales excelentes con grandiosos consejos. Gracias

Suuuuuuper!!!! Many thanks for the video!

Thank you Tomislav Anic! 👍😊 Best wishes back to you from Sweden! 🍾
Looks great, I will try that in my m rails.

Hi watched your great video , but I noticed a little hub in your track at 4.48
Nice job. I like the airbrushing!
Thank you for the positive feedback!
So what do you about the point switches, to avoid them being glued fix or not working due to ballast?

I could not find the video on how to make the topping. Can you reply with the link? Danke!

can you show something like this with the k track? especially in the plant
Looks perfect 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Carsten Stoeckmann Thank you Carsten! 👍😊
no matter what I end up doing, is there a source for M rail power strip? I have interesting plans, and need a lot of it, if not ruinously expensive.
Hi! I may be able to help, but can you please clairify what you mean by "Power strip"?
Great video
Marwin's MoBa Thank you Marwin! 👍😊
Great tutorial Martin. Would like to share your videos on Platform 1 MRC if possible ??
Cheers, Gary.
