A man this fine lady would as I have seen in the flesh Winston Churchill paraphrased Santayana in 1948 during a speech to the House of Commons
"Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it. "
Lets never forget Heinrich Heine's ominous sentence, "those who burn books will in the end burn people," and be aware in todays digital world a banning books is not unlike burning books. If you can ban books then you can ban people.

If a book gets banned, read them, it's normally a high recommendation.
I got arrested for giving out copies of The Little Red Schoolbook, outside my school, it was deemed obscene because it gave advice on sexual matters, STDs and the address of sexual health clinics.
It was funny when they got me to the local nick, my mum was custody inspector that day. You should have seen their faces drop. When I said, "Hi mum, it appears that Special Branch think I'm worth arresting!" Special Branch are the secret squirrels of our policing system, most are some what gung ho!

@@capt.bart.roberts4975 I remember that book as I was at school in Malta when it was published and they banned it immediately but then they used to cut or black out page three of The Sun. Of course being a petulant teenager getting a copy was top priority and in that search a friend of my fathers brought two copies from the USA via Brize Norton (he was an RAF Pilot). Interesting read but here 54 years later the most surprising thing about that book that we were unaware of at the time, it was freely available in the USA because of Free Speech and yet here 54 years later they are banning books in Florida. We really couldn't make it up could we.
As far as the Police are concerned, sorry they have always been corrupt and short of disbanding every single force it wont change. The problem is not individual police officers they are after all human, the problem is a culture that tells those police officers there loyalty is to the Queen/King and those with money/power and the little people are the enemy. After over 52 years in contact with them I can say that I just don't trust a single one of them. In my case what makes the matter worse is I shared a dormitory block in a YWCA in York (a block of bedrooms joined up by a common kitchen/sitting area) and the illegal acts those guys got up to were unbelievable from drug taking, drunk driving, after hours drinking and even taking bribes then being quite open about it. So brazen was the latter that one Friday they discussed how much they made from "donations" that week as a dick contest. And yet on the whole they were otherwise great guys.

Has anyone considered that the Judy Blume books, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks story...these book bans are an extension of anti-feminism!? These books feature girls and women as the main characters. Why aren't you getting THIS point??

If you don't like certain books libraries carry, just don't read them. Don't take that "freedom" away from everyone else who wants to read them. Also, these groups don't realize that this is the most basic form of reverse psychology; when you tell kids not to do something because it's bad or dangerous it makes them want to do it even more. When Maus got banned from school libraries last year, online sales for it went up because kids who had never heard of it suddenly wanted to read it.

Sure, a lot of these banned books may become more popular. Good insight!
However, I think that, at the same time, fewer kids will have exposure to to important social issues. So I think it's still a net negative.

it is getting more like the movie Fahrenheit 451 (1966 version), burn all books at the expense of knowledge.
