The Op. 49 sonatas, being 'student' works, are often performed perfunctorily. I love how Lisitsa gives them (as she gives all else) her full heart and effort, bringing out the depth others miss.
Валентина, Вы прекрасны! Замечательное произведение Бетховена, благодаря Вашему исполнению - как ясный луч солнца и глоток чистой воды сегодня. Спасибо Вам!
Because this sonata is so easy technically, it's played by a lot of students and isn't often heard played by major artists -- except in a cycle as in this case. It's a pleasure to hear it played well. Although I've been around great music my whole life, it was hearing one of Mozart's easiest sonatas played on a great piano by one of the world's great artists that really got my attention and set me on a musical path. This music is good, too. I look forward to hearing the other one of this pair.
Indeed. It's still a Beethoven sonata after all and not a Czerny etude. It deserves respect, no matter how much easier it is compared to the Waldstein.
@@magicmulder I agree except that for contrast in difficulty I'd probably choose Hammerklavier, which hardly anyone dares to tackle. But I guess Waldstein comes from the same era as this sonata. (Just before it?) Anyhow, yes, it's fine music and revolutionary for having a very moderate first movement.
Beautiful interpretation, I love your clarity and your sense of contrast! With you, every detail is at its highest quality, and the entire piece feels like the morning sun shining onto a lush valley.... Thank you so much! 🙏
what a wonderful thing is; Beethoven's soul you have !! this something different else beyond the perfect virtuosity that you have ! you are the rare musical angel of the sounds of the universe, dear Valentina !!
It ended so brightly. Will you, your son, or your husband ever have any plans do a duet together as a family again; like the time when your son was popping all those balloons while you were playing Tchaikovsky? That would be a real treat us to see.
Really excellent! Not many times the great piano players take the "easy" sonatas seriously. Tend to push the tempo far from the Andante and try to make a virtuoso version. This is simply excellent. I adore you.
@@apostolismoschopoulos1876 I don't think is about fast or slow, is about don't lose the character. The movement is Andante. There is a lot of versions of great pianists that push the tempo far from the andante, into an Allegro, only because is easy to play. She doesn't. Barenboim neither. I really like his versión to, of course.
Same here. I've only heard it from Kempff before (I think, that was some 40 years ago) and was always curious how a world class pianist interprets it. (I gotta say I still think I put a little more heart in some passages though but that's personal taste and bias. ;) ) I love how she plays the part at 6:40, never considered articulating it that way.
@@magicmulder there are many times when ill listen to a pianist play a work and think, "oh wow that sounds so much more interesting i've never thought of that". it's one of my favorite parts of music
@@MominMalikYT you see..life is interesting because each one has a different opinion. in the same manner many extraordinary pianists perform Beethoven in different ways from different perspectives. Your face tells a happy story, it betrays the pleasure you had when you played this piece, every nuance was betrayed by the wonderful expression on your face, that alone is worth a kings ransom.
Finally I can hear your performance of this sonata!! Loved it... as always! Looking forward to hear no. 20, and to see you again as soon as you can come back to Madrid!! Thanks for sharing, amazing project!🙌💐 Happy also to see you finally end the quarantine!!
So thankful. I can remember around 10 years ago when I heard your rendition of Beethoven's Moonlight (3rd movement) on RUclips, which initially inspired me to take up the instrument. 18 years old now and playing still. Thank you

So much nuance and delicate phrasing. That's one thing that separates her from the rest.
It's stupid how beautiful this interpretation was. Talent is not enough to make music as gorgeous as this. I will always love it.

Not to take anything away from her performances, but she would herself greatly disagree. A lot of other pianists are better by large margins.
