Just received the new Ortur rotary assembly that I bought from Gearbest. This is an unboxing and assembly video. Did not realize it came as a kit. They no longer provide instructions and give a drop box link that my computers would not accept so it may not be 100% accurate and I need more info to get it working with laser GRBL so there will be follow ups about how to use it.

I have just received the Ortur 2 and hooked it up to my computer. I have not burned anything yet. I watch your videos and learn. Thanks for the input. It is helping me a lot.
Not sure how you like laser grbl. I have switched to lightburn that is much easier for me to use. Have fun. Thanks for watching.
The YRR I received on the 24th of March 2021 had the belt routed as you show. The belt is also the right size.
Glad they took my advice. Thanks for watching.
Great content for beginners to see what is possible in configurations of this Lazar so as not to get discouraged by initial limitations.
These lasers are definitely an affordable way to get started with laser engraving. Thanks for watching.
I love your system here I've been in the laser business for 33 years and this is the best setup I've ever seen for rotary. On a big laser why did it was 75 Watts size wise 15 ft by 20 cost pretty much a second mortgage at $145,000 back in 1990 what I did with it besides gun stocks for weatherby was laser engrave drumsticks but what I like about your setup you can do drumsticks but you might be able to do wood wine bottles and that would be sweet liked and subscribed you now have a new follower!
Thanks. These are low cost Chinese lasers that have no safety features or fume control and they are fun to use on projects. They are only about 4 watt output blue lasers that do not work on light or reflective surfaces but do a good job on wood. About half way through this video ruclips.net/video/x8eJckRnIfs/видео.html is an example of the kind of projects that I use them for. For a couple hundred dollars they work good once you get the settings down. Thanks for watching and subbing.
Thanks for your time and I would like to see you build for the table you made for the Ortur
Thanks. Probably this winter. I am so busy now with other projects. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Looking forward as well for the Lightburn video. Just got my rotary yesterday and assembled already,
Lightburn has an actual rotary setup you should play with. It's going to be a while with other projects and outdoors work. Thanks for watching.
Hello and it is possible to use this equipment with my zbaitu m81 laser,
Contact your laser manufacturer. You probably could just use the y stepper cable and modify the steps per mm in grbl. Thanks for watching.
First of all i want to Thank You for taking the time and uploading the videos, and Congrats on the Mods. i am looking into getting one of these units. the 20W version. i will keep an eye on more of your projects and can't wait to see what other mods your come up with. Thanks Again. GREAT JOB
Thanks. They are an affordable way to get started with laser engraving. Ortur also offers great support. Thanks for watching
Hi amazing video , well explained , I just got myself scupfun s9 . Not yet get time to assemble and test.
Don't know if you have any idea about it . Can I buy any other brand roatry add on like the one in this video to engrave cylinder object.
Thank you
Contact scupfun to see if they recommend any. I have no idea if the cabling or steps are the same. Thanks for watching.
Just ordered mine be here in 2 weeks.
Nice video
They work good but don't always believe the dates Gearbest gives at checkout. They can vary greatly. Thanks for watching.
Don't replace the screws with Phillips. Just use the correct size hollow ground driver bit for the sizes you use. Or do it all up with Allens.
JIS is a choice too, but it and Phillips are really for large scale assembly. IMHO. Good vid.
It's nice to only need one type of driver. Thanks for watching.
Great vid. Did you load the link for the printing of the nut plate?
I didn't bother to upload it because it only takes 5 minutes to draw up. Thanks for watching.
Thank for posting! Looking forward to your lightburn version of this. I am planning to engrave on wooden dowels,
Lightburn makes it easy to scale artwork to match the circumference.. you may want to get the longer belt for dowels. Thanks for watching.
Greatly done.
Any plans on adding air assist to prevent smoke settling down on the lens?
Any plans for the fumes ventilating?
Maybe you did already, just came across this vid to engrave on circular products.
Thx
No, I just engrave wood so not worth bothering with air. I have plans on building a ventilation system someday. For now I just roll it outside. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I would like a laser cnc of these but, that cut some materials like wood, acrylic, plywood up to about 5mm; is it possible with this machine? Thanks
No. You should look for a more powerful laser for that. Thanks for watching.
Was looking for the Nut Plates and Clamp Plate on Thingaverse. Any chance that you could provide a link please?
That is on my list when I get time. I have a couple things to post there but that is at the end of my list of things to do because it is only a waste of time for me. Thanks for watching.
FYI: You had the original belt on wrong. The factory belt goes on just like you did with the replacement belt and works just fine.
They changed the belt after seing the video. FYI newer ones have the longer belt. Thanks for watching.
Ive got the 20w on order with the rotary unit cannot wait
It's a fun learning toy. I reccomend using lightburn for the burns. Much easier to use then Laser grbl and they have a great support forum that Ortur is present on. Have fun. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I noticed that lightburn will engrave whatever image/text from bottom up, going line by line. In your video, I noticed that the engraver did letter by letter and it seemed to be much much quicker. Is there a way to have the same settings in lightburn to allow the laser to engrave letter by letter opposed to doing small horizontal lines?
@@222dillon There's a setting in lightburn that let's you do the line or shape. Shape cuts the time in half.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 and is that possible for images that are imported to lightburn? I only ask because I can't seem to find too much information for this. Thanks for the quick reply and awesome video!
For spindles wouldn’t you just add arch to your design eg in a smiley face shape, with the taper at the top?
No, it would go out of focus. Need something to keep them parallel with the travel. Thanks for watching.
Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations Thanks for posting. How much of a decline would create a noticeable difference though? Would 1-2mm be noticeable?
Yes. Especially with the 20 way that only has a 25mm focal distance. These are just overdriven blue diodes.
Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations Im looking to get the 7W only and want to mark/slightly burn (not engrave or cut) some soft foam. Does this laser allow for low heat but high precision settings?
Does anyone know if this will work on the cnc.3018 pro ? Looks like same.mltor and connection
To tall to fit under mine and number of steps per mm would need to be changed because of the screw pitch. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 thanks!
I am looking into the rotary but want to mount the rotary so it’s always square. Any recommendations or ways around it?
Build a base that references the x rail outside of the travel area or just put pins in the base and mount to easily drop it in place. It all depends
on the base you use and how high the item on the rotary is. Thanks for watching.
Super nice set up.. Have you tried it on a Stainless steel Bottle like Yeti or Hydro Flask? Would appreciate your response. thank you.
No. I don't have proper ventilation to handle the hazardous fumes from things like that. Reflective surfaces must be coated. Contact Ortur with exactly what you need to do and they can tell you what is required. Thanks for watching.
A little bit of advice regarding your CR10, if you'll allow it.
Before printing, preheat to the material's temp, then take an abrasive sponge and clean the nozzle. You also should tweak the retract values in your slicer of choice (if you're using cura, i find that a speed of 29 and a distance of 7 is decent point to start from. I also suggest you get a hold of Simplify3D (i'm using 4.0.0 now) and learn to use it, it's a steep curve to climb, but it pays as it does slicing better than Cura (the multiple choice tweaking is murder tho, but it's worth it in the end).
Also, get yourself a shock dampener for the Nema motor that runs the bed, it will reduce the vibrations drastically, thus improve the quality of the prints. One other thing, print over paper tape (i advise you buy 4 rolls at once, of the best tape you can find, then leave it in a cold, moderately damp place for a few weeks before using them, it makes the adhesive better, but that might vary on what tape you have at your disposal) and lay it diagonally, not parallel to the edges of the bed. Then, using Herlitz red stick glue (this is the best stick glue for this application, period, .87 cents on Amazon) smear the tape in even strokes. Once that's done, use the knife they gave you (Creality, i mean) and spread it thinly and uniformly).
This will need to be reapplied each time you have to print something, if the tape survives. To remove an item from the tape, embed the knife into a corner (i usually design a sacrificial nib for that) and using your left hand to support the bed, press the putty knife in to lift. Really, once you figure out this system, and get used to it, the problem will be removing parts, not losing them.
The tape and glue part of this text is because i'm assuming (wrong or not) that you ditched it because it was troublesome. Also, don't forget to check the play in the table, they might say that you need to tighten the belts and such to their max, but that's untrue, it just needs to be taught. Tightening it too much can cause excessive vibration, and that, is the enemy of every such machine. A lot of people take their advice as law, and throw these machines out because they don't work right. I'm ...starting to think that this might be something lost in translation.
Elmer's glue sticks work great. They pop right off the pyrex plate with a razor blade when cooled. Tape is a pain to use. That's what I started with on the warped original plate. I downloaded and upgraded cura right before printing and my old cr10 settings somehow were all screwed up after upgrading. Those first prints looked like a birds nest. I re did the profile and the second prints were fine. It has been tuned up and does a good job with proper cura settings. The filament had been sitting on the printer for 6 months so it probably has moisture in it also as I don't use it much anymore. I now have a new Chiron on the way for some large parts and this will go down the road in the future. Thanks for watching.
wow...can you send me a message? i have a couple of rookie questions!
Can you etch into painted metal containers (tumblers) with your setup? Thanks!
I have not tried that because I don't have proper ventilation but Ortur says it can be done. You would need fairly straight walls because of the short focus length and no z travel. Thanks for watching.
Have you attached the rotary to the Ortur Master 2? I have them both but a little unsure on what direction I was going to go in reference to how to place the laser to maximize the rotary use.
No. I only use it with the Ortur 1 that has the adjustable shelf for focusing it. You would need to raise the 2 up with blocks. Thanks for watching.
Really great videos! All of them are super helpful as I am new to this, having a hard time getting my image to be centered on my rotary, using a tapered 16” glass, I have it leveled but it seems it needs more support than what I have so off to the hardware store I go! I’m also very interested in the little nut holders you 3D printed, how much would you charge to make me a set and ship them to me? Thanks a bunch!
Thanks. I see the newer rotary's come with a set of rollers to help with tapered glasses. One thing I want to try also is get some wide rubber bands and use them to level them. I can't make things to sell. You could easily make them from small pieces of aluminum and just tap the holes. Thanks for watching.
I dont suppose I could bother you for the stl for the parts you have designed? Also what size belt did you use in the end? I changed the roller layout on mine got rid of the locktight nuts and replaced them with some spacers works well
I used the belt I put a link to in the description. I will try to get them on my thingiverse page this week. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 sorry missed that bit will check it out, your videos were part of the reason I got one of these machines and partly why Ive started to modify mine so always on the look out for useful STLs for it - still learning that side of things sadly so unable to design my own parts as yet. Keep up the good work!
Sweet laser cart
Thanks. It's a great way to keep it all together. Thanks for watching.
So they're nasty phone that's not recyclable makes really good sanding blocks use double-sided tape and when I'm due in large flat surfaces that need to be hand sanded somehow that phone lets you follow all the little Contours been working really great better than the garbage can hey thanks for all your videos you made a portion of my life more enjoyable
We can't recycle it because there is no triangle or number on it. I put it in the garbage because of the odor that it has. Thanks for watching.
And I was proud of my 3d printer cart. Nice
Having a place for everything saves me a lot of time. Thanks for watching.
In the first part of the video your cutting out the nut peices, what machine are you using to cut those?
3d printer. Thanks for watching.
Is it possible to scale the rolls as I’d like engrave pens
They go by the linear movement so no scaling is necessary. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 thank you
Still no link to the instructions or am I missing it somewhere? BTW, those baby-blue and yellow clamps are the cutest I've ever seen in a shop lol
No link I could access. I think Ortur is posting stuff like that on their Facebook group but l don't use Facebook so I am left out. You can never have enough clamps. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the awesome videos! I make wooden duck calls and am considering buying the Ortur 2 and the rotary accessory to engrave images of elk, flying ducks, lettering, etc. on my calls. The only issue is the call barrel isn’t perfectly cylindrical (it tapers and changes shape), so it won’t roll correctly between the two rollers. Do you think the rotary attachment could be modified so that I could slip the call over a single rod to rotate it? The calls have a 5/8” drilled hole though them. Also, would this etch anodized aluminum?
the taper would affect the focus and I doubt the outcome would be acceptable. It would be easy to 3d print adapters but you really need a machine with z travel and more complex software to deal with distortion. Thanks for watching.
i am new to this and assembled ortur laser master 2. however Y axis is not moving at all. i tried light burn and GBRL both software. could you please advice?
Be sure the cables are all plugged in properly and seated. If they are right then contact Ortur for support and they will help you troubleshoot. Thanks for watching.
What else will you make for engraving on the roller?
I'm thinking it will be good for engraving wooden pen blanks with company logos
I have some rolling pins to try and also want to try Acrylic glasses. Tapered pens will need an adapter to keep them tracking properly. Also want to see how big bowl it can handle. Thanks for watching.
A user had used it to engrave wooden pen and share his job at ruclips.net/video/XOG0AIwpBeA/видео.html
any support of NEJE master 2 20w with Ortur Laser Engraver Rotary Roller ?
Don't know. If the steppers are the same should be easy to plug right in or put a new connector on the cable to match the NEJE wiring. Thanks for watching.
Have you tried this rotary on lightburn? Thank you
Works great. No changes needed because it goes by linear movement and not radius. Thanks for watching,
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 omg! You are a lifesaver! Thank you so much!
Trying to set mine up but laser keeps moving in Y axis and leaving the item. Pretty sure I set circumstance and all that up. Any tips on why it may be moving?
Dont run as a circumference. Just run as a standard X, Y file with the rotary plugged into the Y connection. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 hmmm I did try that by disabling roller as others mentioned but while the rollers spin, the Y also moves. It also jumps back and forth very fast which makes cup move and get out of place 🤯
You have a wiring problem because the y can't move with the cable switched to the rotary. Trying to run 2 motors on the Y driver definitely would be jumpy and probably will toast the driver. Contact Ortur and see if they can figure out what you did to the wiring.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I used Y2 and it works! Instructions let me to believe it was on Y1 motor but at least it works 😃
Do you offer your 3d printed nut / screw enhancements for sale? If so, where may i find them at? Thanks in advance for your help.
No. Not set up to sell anything. Make some from small pieces of aluminum. Thanks for watching.
Nice! Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching!
Can this do stainless steel tumblers?
Not the raw stainless, only if they have a coating from what I understand. Contact Ortur with your exact requirements to be sure because I have only used mine on wood. Thanks for watching.
Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations Thank you
Could this do a powder coated tumbler?
It should. Contact Ortur to be sure it will work with the color tumbler you plan on engraving. You would need a good ventilation system. Thanks for watching.
hello I am looking for the same grid as on your laser engraver do you still have the file because I do not know how to do it I suck with Photoshop thank you and have a happy holiday !!!
I just did it in lightburn. draw a vertical and horizontal line then copy them at the increments you want. Only takes a minute and I didn't save it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks you for your answer l will try to do it ;)
Just curious, do you think this laser roller could be setup or modified to engrave the inside of wood rings?
No.
That's really cool
It's definitely a nice addition to the engravers. Thanks for watching.
Just curious, do you think this laser and roller could be configured to engrave the inside of wood rings?
No. It is to big. Thanks for watching.
You have a few lasers correct? which one did you use for this ,, I have heard people like the little 7w for more detailed engraving?
I have 2- 15 watt. I understand the 20 watt is best for engraving with it's short focus distance and the 15 watt is better for cutting but it also does a good job engraving. Don't know about the 7 watt. I think they all use the same blue diode and are driven at different input power with different lenses.
Hi, does it work on a kkmoon (the same model of neje) 20w laser?
Thank you
You should contact Ortur. Thanks for watching.
Great video, now I want one. What 3d printer do you have?
Get one. I have a CR10S now but just ordered an AnyCube Chiron for larger prints that is supposed to ship mid July. Thanks for watching
Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations Thanks for the reply. I always watch your videos first, great stuff!
Pretty cool thank you
Thanks for watching.
Silly question, but how do you get the laser to lite up when you hit "frame". I've never been able to do it.
in lightburn you have to turn it on in the settings and set a safe power level. Thanks for watching.
In Lightburn hold Shift and then click Frame.
Was the burn shown in real time?
Yes it was. Lines burn between 400 and 700 mm/minute. Thanks for watching.
Hello, im a big fan and i want to know when you will put another video out on the harbor freight trencher I'd really like to see that thumb in action!!
Just did one with it putting in some French drain. Haven't had to use the thumb yet. Just have about 250 feet of French drain to finish up next but it's too hot now. Thanks for watching.
I just bought a Ortur Laser engraver, which wattage laser do you have? Is it true it will cut 3mm Birch?
I have the 15s and can only cut a little over 2 mm deep in Baltic birch. It would need refocusing to go deeper on mine. Great for engraving wood. Thanks for watching
Works in stainless steel?
Only lightly if you paint it black. Thanks for watching
nice job!!
Thanks. It works good and is very easy to use. Just wish they supplied directions and not links my computer doesn't like. Thanks for watching.
did you ever upload the spacer to thingiverse?
No I didn't. Went back to get it and my Fusion 360 trial ran out so I can't access anything. Thanks for watching.
Hey
Did you manage to upload the stl's to thingiverse?
No I didn't. My free Fusion 360 ran out and I can't access the files. Thanks for watching.
id love to have those parts you made. well done.
What were your power settings and speed?
I use 100% power and speeds between 400 and 700 depending how dark or detailed I want it on lines. Thanks for watching
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
The main problem with this type of roller it's it doesn't allow to engrave a mug, for instance
You have to 3d print adapters and change the steps per mm to do things like mugs. Thanks for watching.
Hi sir. Thank you so much for this istructive video and please can share with us instructions and stl file. Thank you
That is on my list of things to do as I get time. Contact Ortur for the manual. Thanks for watching.
hdpe Plastic
Can I use it here?
No. Thanks for watching.
is work for eggs?
I doubt it but you should ask Ortur to be sure. Thanks for watching.
can we have the stl please
I don't save files of simple things. Only takes a couple minutes to make it. Thanks for watching.
Hello Nerd Only Cable extensión PH 06 plis
