- The biggest budget movie in the history of Iranian cinema is about the holiest figure in Islam: the Prophet Muhammed. The film portrays the Prophet's childhood from his birth in Mecca up to the age of 12 when, according to Muslim historians, he meets a Christian monk, Bahira, in the Syrian city of Bosra who foretells that young Muhammad is going to be a messenger of God. In February, Egypt's Al-Azhar Islamic Centre called on Iran to ban the film. Al-Azhar in its statement claimed that production of such films undermines the sanctity and lofty status of the messenger of God.

7 years ago I watched the movie "The Messenger" (1977), and that movie made me so curious about Islam that I began to study Islam and became Muslim. As long as the movie respects the Prophet(SAW) by not showing his image, then I do not see how sharing the history of Islam through media, which is a wonderful source if used properly, could be forbidden. I hope it comes to the United States soon. With the will of Allah(SWA).

Matt Earl No, I was turned off when I heard Russell Crowe was playing Noah. And just knowing it’s a Hollywood movie that it would be inaccurate and trying to draw in an audience. But this film with its sensitive subject matter would have to be accurate and done well to please those who practice Islam with respect.

I watched this film and as a Muslim of 50 years old learnt so much and then done so much more research that my Iman kicked started even harder. It was respectful as it showed no face and I found it very educational and respectful. Allah knows best but I saw nothing wrong with the film.🙏🏼

My son wanted to learnabout Prophet Muhammad pbuh. His mom shows him cartoons for Christianity. I tild him about Prophet Muhammad and his companions and he was excited to watch some cartoons on it and learn, but when the cartoons didnt depict the faces he lost interest and said "but I cant see their faces" and didnt want to watch any more. This broke my heart.

I hope your son understands why this is wrong and I hope he chooses Islam the only religion that I am aware of that instructs men to give there wives gifts on their wedding day limits the number of wives that a man can have to increase the justice experienced in marriage and has such an extensive care system that encourages people to give and encourages the state to charge reasonable taxes to feed this care system unlike Christianity which is unreasonable expecting the state to sustain itself on just an income tax of only 10% expecting people to not reap the edges of their farms expecting people to not work two days of the week take 9 days of every to partake in feasts and take an entire year off every seven years and for people to forgive debts every seven years and not only that but to also sustain the immigrants widows orphans and whatnot with just 10% of income and all the work restrictions in the world I love christianity like I love my cousins but this is rediculous not only that but so many practices which are allowance of unclean food the non-requirment of circumcision the common depiciton of jesus as milk-white and the trinity all to please the gentiles it makes me sad disillusioned quite frankly

I watched the full movie and watched it over and over again. There’s nothing wrong in the whole movie and the whole story is based on Quran and true narrations. As far as disrespect is concerned there’s no where in the movie showing the face of the Prophet pbuh and anything thing else which could be classified as disrespect. In fact, I strongly favour the making of such movies depicting the lives of Prophets peace be upon them all according to Quran and Sunnah. May Allah strengthen the people who do such an effort and Jazakam Allah Khairun.

As an Iranian I am so proud that this movie is the most expensive while some super expensive movies are fictional with so many visual effects but with no message to help human beings.
This movie is a great portrait of Islam and its messanger of peace, prophet Muhammad. God bless Majidi.
Before this, "The Message" got banned due to several reason, alhough the person of the Prophet and his voice were not depicted on the screen. That movie have become a great source of DAWAH of Islam due to the finary and nobility of its production by the Will of Allah , at the time of IT development age. Now this new production is being criticized for many reasons while it contains a lots of Bibilical References to invite the People of the Book to Islam. I still hope that it will have a POSITIVE IMPACT worldwide, InshAllah!

I’m not anti Muslim nor am I against making a movie of the prophet . His story is amazing considering what he accomplished and the devotion of followers he has .

i HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching this movie. You will feel very immersed into the story as if you are thrown back into the era of Prophet Muhammad SAW. In the "The Messenger" (1977), when it comes to Prophet Muhammad it was shown in first person POV and his speech is being related to the viewers by the characters playing Zayd ibn Harithah or Hamza RA. This also happens for the caliphs/companions. This is done to ensure the sanctity but the trade off being it does not follow exactly who is narrating the words historically.
In "Muhammad Messenger of God" movie you actually see a human figure in representation of the Prophet SAW. This effect makes you feel like you are actually living in that very moment and witnessing history unfolds before your very eyes. Also the effect of actually seeing a humanly figure reminds everybody that the Prophet SAW is at the end a human being just like the rest of us. The words "spoken" by the character is actually subtitled with no voice. As each script is spoken by the respective character there is no "3rd party narration" issue that existed in the 1977 movie. This is important for especially our non Muslim viewers to follow exactly what happened then and who spoke what.
Islamic media/storytelling needs to get extra creative and resourceful as Islam has more prohibitions to follow. This put the Muslims at a disadvantage against our Christian friends when they can go all out with their Biblical narrative movies. We Muslims have to up our game with engaging both Muslims and non Muslims with interactive media and easily accessible Islamic resources. I think I'm aware of this movie. I saw it because of it being posted on RUclips. The best you can probably see is like a split second when Muhammad SAW gets hit and you can kinda see his face. But yeah it doesn't really mean much. Also the fact of depicting him with hair down to the shoulders this is actually an accurate depiction. But all in all the movie doesn't give you a good look of his face and yeah media is probably the best way we can spread Islam's true message.
