I would love to see a session zero podcast episode, maybe more of a guide as to how you would introduce new players to this setting! Loving the podcast though!
I second this! I think a podcast episode designed to either help DMs onboard players and introduce them to the setting or even be the Obojima team speaking directly to the players and telling them all about the setting and your work could be an awesome resource, a great way to connect y'all directly with players, and get players excited! Thanks for all your hard work, so excited to read and play in the setting.
Level 5 in D&D, to me, represents a shift from the players being reactive to the world to them being the aggressors in the world, if that makes sense. You start wielding such powerful magic, such deadly weaponry, that you really start taking the fight to the world, as it were. It's why a lot of players enjoy the game around that level, due to the feeling of power. But I 100% agree about Obojima, that you're not going for a power-fantasy game. It's cozy. It's empathetic. It's a world you want to explore in a non-aggressive manner. A place you'd want to help preserve! And I think that can lead to more powerful long-term games, regardless of the level the players reach.
It is so helpful to have this context thank you! Would love more episodes along this line, but I'm not sure what to ask for specifically yet; just wanted to say this ep. makes me feel more capable of creating the vibe I want but couldn't put my finger on. 💙
I have been keeping myself blind to almost everything about this. I want to find out for myself when I get my hands on the books. But it was very useful in general to hear about how you both would run games within this setting. Thank you for your hard work!
If your players don’t start out in real world circa 1982 and wake up on Obojima, with spirits and witches, and everyone treats “their” tech like it’s ancient and magic, and they have to solve the corruption to get back to their world… then are we even doing a Ghibli game?
I'm an artist who makes fantasy works, not western fantasy mind you. I love Ghibli because they're one of the few studios I've seen who get it. Few people inspired by Ghibli, particularly in the west, come close to 1/10th of the true beauty of it. I brushed Obojima off because 5e is one of the worst rulesets for a Ghibli inspired world, and I still think that. While listening to this gives me more confidence in Obojima, as you understand at least more than the surface level, the rest remains to be seen for me.
Just found Obojima and very pleased to see there's all this extra info via poscast. Question about late pledging for a physical book - do you still receive all the stretch goals laid out in the Kickstarter stretch goal chart?
Love that idea of choosing characters to bring into the finale

So so so very excited for this book
Love the shoutout to Mushishi! It's a great anime
Right? My favorite! Couldn't ask for a more clear touch stone too.

THAT IS SO GOOD and is in fact exactly how you run a Studio Ghibli D&D game.

@@Obojima thanks! I am looking forward to it. Don’t tell my players yet…

Glad you found us!
As for the stretch goals, late pledges will only receive the stretch goals that made it into the book.
