  • Nikko Toshogu Shrine, is Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine. It is located in Nikko (日光), a town in Tochigi that is home to many shrines and temples registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Toshogu Shrine enshrines Japan’s most famous samurai, Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), the founder of Tokugawa Shogunate. It is home to 55 structures featuring important work of arts, exhibiting delicate and skilled craftsmanship.
The carvings and their exquisite design are fascinating you won’t get tired looking at them.
The entrance fee costs ¥1,300 for adults and ¥450 for children.
How to go from Tokyo to Nikko by train:
take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station and transfer at Utsunomiya Station for the JR Nikko Line to Nikko, which takes around 2 hour 40 minutes in total.
