The 3 pronged attachment is that one time he set up a forceshield to take a shot at that fire when they got stuck with Spike and sparkplug on the rigs and all the other humans disappeared never to be seen again.......I'm sure they survived eh? And I'm glad Trailbreaker arrived in time for wrestlemania season.
I’m always impressed by the engineering that turns a licenced vehicle into a robot that looks like it comes from an 80s children’s cartoon. It’s amazing. The fact it looks like it comes from an 80s children’s cartoon means I think it’s as boring as toffee and would never even think of buying it, but that aesthetic doesn’t stop the technical side being top-notch.
That time investment comment really got me. I haven't transformed MP Megatron in months and everything I pick it up to do it, I put him right back on the shelf after a second thought.
Great little review. The Masterpiece line has ALWAYS been out of my price range. But that doesn't matter because I prefer toys over show pieces anyway. When I saw the thumbnail for this video, I immediately thought of what made the early G1 Transformers fun for me, though they could transform. Each character had a special ability that set them apart from the others: Hound's Holograms, Trailbreaker's force fields, Ironhide's toughness, Mirage's Invisiblity, Bumblebee's...eh whatever. It made the characters more real to me. Also, love your cameo in the reflection on the chrome on the dish. Really neat.
I have a bit of a soft spot for Trailbreaker, he's a 1980...something Toyota Hilux, and that's the car my dad had when I was a kid (browsing just now on Wikipedia, I think we had the 1983 double cab?) If they gave him a mold-mate in yellow, it would be a must-buy for me. I'm not even a car guy, but THIS car? This one gets me right in my cold, black heart.
It is remarkable how much Gavin looks like this toy. Or maybe Trailbreaker looks like Gavin? Either way, if that headsculpt grew a beard I don't know how we'd be able to tell them apart.
I didn't expect Takara MP Trailbreaker to be *bad,* but it was easy for me to pass on him. Perhaps largely because I'd had FT Outrider on preorder for four or five years. But now that I have the FansToys version, I'd highly recommend it. The transformation is probably on par with the Takara version, in terms of intuitiveness and fun, but the proportions of the bot mode are just much better. And FansToys' inclusion of DieCast just blows any full-plastic toy out of the water. A big part of my G1 nostalgia is the die-cast compoments.
Great review, as always, bu this just isn't my goblet of mead. Trailbreaker is supposed the be black, not washed-out grey. As soon as I saw the colour, I knew it was going to be too heavy on the simplistic cartoon styling for my liking. I didn't mind paying a hefty wodge of cash for the Masterpeices when they had loads of details, die-cast parts, working pistons, spring-loaded shocks, and the occasional light-up feature. But I just can't be bothered with the modern MPs.
I do like the look of this lad but I think I'll either wait for this to be on sale or get the almost inevitable Hoist retool. Or Lift Ticket. I'm a sucker. They know they've got me on the hook for one of these.
I always wondered about getting some Masterpiece toys when I could (I used to own MP-1 Optimus and Grimlock when they cost like £50 in the toy store, which was the most I would have paid for a toy back in the day), but the more I look at their complicated transformations and expensive prices, I think I'll just be fine with the regular retail figures that work and look just as good. Though still, even if you stick to one toyline series, you'll sometimes get that itch of picking up the odd one or two figure of another one just because, if one can afford it. Maybe some day, if the right opportunity presents itself.
gavin radar refection easter egg lol love it. interesting figure. does LOOK like a G1 Masterpiece. cool on the options but yeah storing them is gonna be a hassle haha they should make a boulder that has shelves that can store things and act as a deco. oooo look at me and my smarts haha
I love trailbreaker, but I think I’ll pass on a 3 digit figure, 3P and masterpiece are out of my college dropout, $5 above minimum wage hindquarters. Hope you enjoy him though Gav!
Got about 4 chuckles in 2 minutes out of me this did. Also the toy's alright but a bit rich for my blood, my Earthrise Trailbreaker (with weird long side bits) will have to do me.
I can’t wait for mine to get here. He’s not perfect but he doesn’t have to be. His vehicle mode is absolutely stellar tho. My favorite type of car/alt mode are those discrete, everyday cars that just blend in with everyone else. Love this guy.
If you keep his mouth shut, then more cake for Gavin, unless Repugnus eats it.
What can I say, that sure is a masterpiece Trailbreaker.

It seems like all the most recent MPs have been trying a little harder to have fun transformations, and that's really exciting to me.

More reviewers need to comment on the quantity of cake that a figure’s alternate faces can consume in one go
Imagine how much cake Revenge of the Fallen Devastator could eat!
We've all been there, the review HAS to get done TODAY, and there's just no time for lunch. "I can skip ONE meal, right?"
That time investment comment really got me. I haven't transformed MP Megatron in months and everything I pick it up to do it, I put him right back on the shelf after a second thought.
Didn't know that it came with a wee smiling Gavin in on the rear of the dish accessory, now an absolute must buy!

As a Scot myself, two thumbs up for the correct pronunciation of bonnet.
in the reflection of the dish you can see famous actor Gavin Spence, who did such roles as Dominik Diamond and others

1:48 did you say Mighty Max?! That cartoon was trauma!

I LOVE his weirdly distinctive face. It’s like Metallo.
1:40 sudden Gavin cameo!
I wonder how long it’s gonna take someone to give this trailbreaker his Spotlight Lip biting face…
Don’t think I didn’t spot your cheeky reflection in the satellite dish Gav.
Nice to see Trailbreaker isn't easily broken like poor Hound
2:03
Oh god, he’s *JOBBYING*
Love the face at 1:41!

Animation accurate backpack? You sure this ain’t 3rd party?

his "oh-face" in the radar dish 🤣🤣 I don't do MP for a lot of those reasons..most importantly the average $200 price-tag. No thanks👎

couldve done without the giant molded “TOYOTA” on the back. good thing i never intended on getting this guy in the first place.
I love trailbreaker, but I think I’ll pass on a 3 digit figure, 3P and masterpiece are out of my college dropout, $5 above minimum wage hindquarters. Hope you enjoy him though Gav!
Got cake on the mind big man?

I was interested in hearing sone opinions if him. I had no intention of getting him, but still curious enough to learn more
Finally we get the representation that matters! fat guys with long legs in toy form.
is it so hard to give my boy teebee a good figure?
Face reveal on the reflective chrome
"cake" is a euphemism right?
Keeps me wondering how they’d do a hoist from this fella. Also do you have any opinions on the new transformers movie so far bro?
I'm not excited for the film but certainly am for the monkey toys
Hmm interesting
Hmmm
Question: How does MP scale to mainline figures? ER/Kingdom Trailbreaker came and went so fast. MP version might be my only alternative.
Oh he's much bigger
I'd late Trailbreaker ice my birthday cake, since today is my birthday!
Happy birthday!
@@TRDQ Thank you!
SAW YOOOUU!!
Hola Gavin
Hola Lex
Trailbreaker is an under developed character
I can’t wait for mine to get here. He’s not perfect but he doesn’t have to be. His vehicle mode is absolutely stellar tho. My favorite type of car/alt mode are those discrete, everyday cars that just blend in with everyone else. Love this guy.
Thanks as always Gavin!!!
I can't wait for the Rumble, friendo...
LET HIM IN!!!
i love trailbreaker but i think if i owned this toy it would stay in truck mode and never be transformed
