I feel so bad for him. The poor man already has to deal with the fact that his friend was killed, in a horrific way. Then he has to be the one to find her, and the police do nothing to conceal Edna's body while he's still there. I can't imagine the mark that leaves on your psyche.

I'm baffled that Edna's friend and her family never suspected the black next door neighbour, who they knew she had rowed with before her murder? Police knew her killer was African-American and probably someone she knew well, as she let him in (no forced entry to her home). You'd assume Edna's friend and grandson would have put two and two together and considered that neighbour!
This story actually represents shoddy police work, as the killer was right under their noses and should have been identified as a suspect at the time. This TV show deliberately didn't tell us the neighbour was black when they first mentioned him, because they knew viewers would realise he was the killer and it would spoil their 'surprise' ending! As soon as they mentioned him I realised he was probably Edna's killer - why didn't police suspect him immediately?
Instead he got away with raping and murdering that 89 year old lady for 16 damn years, and was able to rape another woman so viciously she died afterwards - and no doubt he committed many more assaults on females he got away with. A shocking story of police incompetence!

I appreciate that the episodes spend more time talking about the victim, rather than sensationalizing details of the crime. It's important to see that the heart of these crimes is the person who was harmed, & to be reminded that each one is a vibrant individual human being & not just 'a victim' or 'a statistic'. I feel like I got to know Edna, & I could see the warmth & affection in the eyes of the people who knew her.

I just do not understand how police missed that man as a suspect - they knew her killer was black, they knew there was no forced entry so she probably knew him and let him in. The killer was therefore a black man she knew well - yet they never looked at the black next door neighbour who she'd recently fallen out with! Unbelievable.

Well, strangulation is the _method_ of murder that he used. And when it comes to saying "rape" versus "assault", those are two different terms under the law, so they are factually reporting what he was charged with.

And it's precisely that immediate suspicion that in all likelihood makes most people hesitant to report crimes in the first place. If I am ever in the position Mr Nogar found himself in, I very much doubt I would report what I found. After all there have been plenty of cases in which the cops pinned a crime on the wrong suspect simply to close a case...

They'll mention the name then only use him to fill in a neutral detail, like "john doe said he didn't hear anything strange that night."

I was raised by my mom's parents, she was only 16 and my dad 18. My mom wasn't cut out for parenting and while my dad's a great guy, the best thing he did was understand I was happy living with my grandparents. They were my whole world and would always tell me I kept them alive. Sadly they'd been addicts and hadn't really taken care of themselves so my grandmother passed in 2018 at 69 and my grandfather this past November at 74. They understood me and never gave up on me despite a severe heroin addiction. It kills me my grandmother was gone before I got clean and idk if my grandfather understood as he had a stroke. I remember crying apologizing to my gramps about how I'd become a junkie and couldn't ever get over it after nearly a decade. He never quit on me. I can't imagine someone hurting them and taking them from me. I remember as a teenager finding out another kid had stolen the radio from my grandmother's car. I was never some sort of badass, even all the years as an addict my records still spotless. But I was fortunate this kids parents didn't give a shit because had I done what I did to him to someone else's kid I'd have been in serious trouble. I was sure my goose was cooked. My only guess is my friends parents were friends with the little shitheads parents and basically told them he'd had it coming. And had it been my brother he'd be dead.
