I did this with the exception of adding seafoam additive before I change the oil. Drove it for 125 miles. Did oil and filter change added seafoam again drove it for 150 miles. It quit throwing the error codes and ran great. Changed the oil and oil filter again. Has ran great so far .I'm at 200 miles and still going. Sure Glad I found your video.
I'm glad my video was helpful for you. These variable cam timing systems rely so much on clean, proper viscosity, level, and oil pressure. You lose one of those, and there will be a problem. Keep me posted on your engine as you get more miles on it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I had phaser /valve/ cam rattle after engine warmed up useing the light weight 5w-20 oil. Checked oil pressure with a manual gauge at operating temp . 67 psi then 35 hot. +Went with penzoil 15W 40 problem solves ben useing it ever since.
So i want to Thank You for putting out this video/tutorial . I have a 2018 with a 3.5 eco ,10 speed 4x4 with 38,500 miles and the scanner is throwing out the P0022 code so i looked it up and your video came up. I had the truck at the dealership and it did'nt give a code but it was on for about 2 weeks. So this Saturday @ 11:00 am the code came back on. They said it (might ) be covered under warranty . Labor is at over $100 + an hour i hope so. Anyways thanks again for the insight.
Thanks for the comment. I hope that your repair is covered under warranty. These systems are very sensitive and need good clean oil with good flow and pressure. With any repair it's always a good idea to check your basic maintenance items first. Damage can be done very quickly. Let me know how your vehicle turns out. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment. I'm always looking for video ideas and ways to help my viewers.
I already replaced all of the cam sensors but I get the P0346, only when I scan while driving, yet no Check Engine Light. But the error shows on my scanner, only when I scan and drive at the same time. When I scan in park the scanner shows 0 codes. My vehicle does have symptoms. I looked at the wires and they basically look new in my 2014 ford Mustang V6 3.7. I also replaced the VVT solenoid valves, etc. I sure wish someone can give me some much needed direction. Thank you.
Alright, so what if I do regular oil changes. I do them every 3 - 4.5k miles since my truck is at around 164k miles. I was driving home from the shop and it felt like my truck went into a limp mode. At idle in gear (I was on the road and I didn't think to shift it into neutral or park), my tach was reading about 250 rpm when I usually idle at 750 rpm. I got home, shut it off. Grabbed my scan tool from the garage, went to start it and the truck started fine and idled fine. Took it for a test drive and it didn't go into limp mode. I threw my scanner on it and it had the pending P0022 only. 2007 f150 XLT 5.4 triton Vin V Flex
First video ive found on the problem i got going on, finally, took so long to find smthg. I got a 2010 4.6 3V and i got the same issue where it starts sounding like a semi truck every now and then. I got the same codes but i also got one cylinder misfiring in each bank 3 & 4, is that related to it all or is that domething seperate or perhaps altogether different.
If the cam timing is off, a misfire could happen. One thing you could try is take the coils from the suspect cylinders and move them to other cylinders. If you get different misfire codes, then you know it's a coil problem. Hope this helps and keep me posted.
I will be trying this out this weekend. The truck I just bought with 190K miles is throwing all of those codes and the oil looks a little gummed up! I'll let you know if it works!
after replacing the vvt solenoids cam phasers and timing chain guides etc. Upgraded rollerfollowers Plus upgrading oil pump to m360 which increases oil pressure by 20% It was recommended late go from 5W-20 to 5W-30. After completing the job I'm not getting a p0022 code with rough idle and occasional stalling. Is it possible the oil is an issue Thank you
I am only getting the P0012 and the vehicle vibrates hard and go back to normal, but engine light remains, can I just change the solenoids, also can I still operate the vehicle with no problems
You can change the solenoids, but first I would check the wiring to them and the cam sensors for damage. Rodents love to nest on the intakes and chew wiring. If you decide to pull the solenoids check the screens for restrictions like sludge and silicone. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching
Mine did the exact same thing. I changed the solenoids, changed the oil and it’s still running a bit rough. Cleared the codes but haven’t showed back up yet. Not as bad but slight rough. Not sure what else it could be. Any suggestions? P0022 P0012.
Those are cam timing related codes, possibly timing chain wear or cam phaser problems? If it's not throwing a code, I wouldn't be too worried. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching
I have the same issue 5.4. It runs fine cold but when hot it makes a lot of noise like a diesel. Some days it doesn’t throw a code, other days when it’s hot it makes a lot. I’ll flush the engine a couple times, the previous owner says all of the timing chains, guides and phasers were just replaced. Seems fishy
I'm having the same issue. I have a 2015 ford f150 lariat with 3.5 ecoboost. Have the codes and getting a rattle in the engine sometimes. It comes and goes. Should I try this method before spending 5000 on cam phasers?
Have you fixed your ecoboost yet? I would try it first. I always look at maintenance items first before I look at expensive repairs. Let me know how it turns out.
Question I’ve got a 2007 5.4 3 v and I just replaced the spark plug after truck overheated now that new plugs are in when I hit the gas it makes a clacking noise my codes are p0010 p0020 and p0202 any clew ? If so I’d appreciate a response
I believe that motor only has two. These motors are very picky. Make sure you have proper oil weight (usually 5w20) oil pressure is in spec, and I usually run Ford filters. These are also prone to cracked or leaking exhaust manifolds which also make ticking noises on cold start ups. Keep me posted on what the problem ends up being. Hope this helped. Thanks for watching.
Did that. Also changed solenoides, Rocker followers and phasers and after all this, 2 oil changes with oil flush, P0012, P0022 and those P04XX came all over again. Both banks are constantly over retarded at 12.28 degrees
Got a 08 5.4 did timing chain ran great til warm then idled like shit did timing chain again same thing with phasers did it again new chain and phasers and vvts still idles like shit I’m lost
Have you checked your oil pressure? or even send an inspection camera up the drain plug to check pickup screen? I've seen them restricted with silicone. That system needs pressure and flow. Let me know what you find.
I have a 2010 f150 lariat getting the same codes and rough iddle, also it shuts off randomly when i get to a stop or red light, do you have any recommendation??
Good vedio I'm working on ford explorer 2014 i change water pump cause if was leaking an i have change timing chain an sprocket now it shows code P0022 and P0012 any help highly appreciated
Could possibly be a timing chain or phaser timing issue in assembly. Did you have any of those codes before? Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching and commenting.
My 2010 expedition has 132,000 miles it has the po 0012 to far retarded. After fresh oil and filter the same code the tech told me it needs a new engine the oil pressure is below the limit. I wonder why it can't be repaired. ..
Did you put in conventional oil or synthetic oil, and why? What type did you drain out? I'm having the same CEL codes and symptoms on a 2011 Expedition (same engine and near same mileage). I'll have to give this a shot. Thank you for sharing.

What was your oil pressure after switching to 15w40? My concern would be flow at start up in cold weather.
Great info! I was shocked no bad parts…
Oil changes…
Huh…
I'm not saying this is always the case. But definitely something to try before you spend thousands.
Great Video!!! Very helpful! I have the exact same problem and didn’t change my oil on time.
Hope some frequent oil changes will help you. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for watching and commenting.

That was synthetic oil put in
Oil pressure, flow, and frequent oil changes with good oil (I always use synthetic) are so important with these motors. I always buy high quality oil.

What oil did you use?
I believe it was the 5w20 full synthetic from Napa.
How many KM is back to back for oil changes? After a 1 hour drive or after a week of regular driving?
I would go a week. Give the oil time to clean. Let me know how it works out for you.
Thank you ❤
