- Kamen Rider Geats was written by Yuya Takahashi, who had previously given us Ex-Aid and Zero-One. Takahashi felt the traditional methods of writing a Kamen Rider show were growing stale and wanted to make the next iteration more akin to modern online battle royale type games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends. However, instead of going the route Kamen Rider Ryuki had twenty years prior, limiting itself to thirteen riders, Takahashi took his idea from Ex-Aid’s final arc where anyone and everyone could be a Kamen Rider. Additionally, instead of having traditional battles of a Kamen Rider fighting an adversary in combat, he wrote each story to have a different objective as one would in a video game. This gave the show a lot of variety to try and avoid repeating the same tropes over. Was this method successful? Is this Blu-Ray worth buying? Watch to find out.

Geats is probably the best Reiwa season. Probably some of the best storytelling and characters I've seen.
The only negative was the final villain.
Right now I still prefer Revice, but we'll see what an eventual second viewing of Revice brings.

I agree. The main cast of characters are what make Kamen Rider Geats shine for me.
The only things I didn't like were Suel and Daichi. His "redemption" was strange and poorly written. Which is odd considering Takahashi has done redemption just fine before (like with Horobi), at least in my opinion.
Otherwise I really liked it, probably my favorite Takahashi show (currently anyway, depending on if he returns to write another Rider season in the near future).
_What I liked about Geats:_
-4 Main Riders and their respective story arcs
-concept of Suits and Raise Buckles
-DGP/DR
_My issues with Geats:_
-Kyuun, compared to other supporters, has very little to be desired.
-Final Boss did felt rushed
-Buffa's True Final Form was saved for the V-Cinext
*FINAL VERDICT:* I'm liking this season when compared to something like Ryuki.
If I were to rank Kamen Rider written by Yuya Takahashi:
1. Ex-Aid
2. Geats
3. Zero-One

I just do not care for Ex-Aid one bit while both it and Zero-One also hijacked their series with god awful post-series movies. The Zero-One Others movies were a complete middle finger to the fans of the show.
So, in case of outfit and design choices I dig it in a sense as technically a person is eligible in the DGP and based on the raise buckle they can make it work.
Makes sense.
I like it too. Doesn't waste Suit Design whilst maintaining some individuality amongst Riders. It's the one story element that Geats has over Ryuki imo.
Would you consider reviewing toku like or toku adjacent stuff? Would non japanese creations that are at least heavily inspired by Kamen Rider or Super Sentai count?
I'll get there eventually. I'd like to do Zaido if I can ever find fansubs of the entire series.
I agree with it adding a movie as the price is too much. Hopefully, we'll get another Heisei series as I'm still waiting for OOO or Faiz. This series gets a solid 8 out of 10 for me.
I'm hoping for Blade, Agito, or W next.
Blade would be great as I could use a better physical copy. Agito also have been the next after Kuuga. Better to do it in order.
It's kind of hard to do Kamen Rider in order since Toei licenses out each series separately and each series has its own costs.
Yeah, I guess. I just hope Gotchard isn't the next one once done because I do not like that series at all. It is my most hated Kamen Rider series.

Well having the mutitude of riders there, for starts. The really childish gimmicks, the childish tones. The main riders are starting to get younger and younger.

At some point, I will have every Kamen Rider series reviewed. It's just not my priority right now like Sentai is.

Where's the Revice review doesn't Revice came before Geats in the Kamen Rider Series Line up?
I don't review them in any specific order. In fact, I only reviewed Geats now because it was released on Blu-Ray in the US.

I would say Geats were alright show to me . I enjoyed watched the show both when it aired and after .
It does have Pros and Cons , but it doesn't destroy my enjoyment of this series .
I definitely enjoyed it way more the second time compared to the first.

Didn't I give Hibiki 3 stars? I thought I broke it up with first half 4 stars and second half 2, making it a 3 when combined.

I'm so far behind when it comes to watching Toku, but I got this on Blu-Ray back in April and I've been meaning to watch it. Though I do wish that similar to Ryuki and Zero-One that they had included the movie in this set. Also I was thinking the same thing, we need Donbrothers and King-Ohger Blu-Rays 😭. And I loved hearing that TimeFire theme again, so peak fr. On a side note, I finally finished watching Ultraman Ace.
What did you think of Ace?

The idea behind two people being the host was smart, but you’re right it’s dumb that they got rid of it because of children in the 70s with cooties 🤦. I didn’t mind them doing the Return of Ultraman format after that. But that kid was so annoying with his whole “6th Ultra Brother” thing cuz like Taro exists 🤦. But I did like how they didn’t hold back with the action like Ultraseven. Next show I’m watching is Neo Ultra Q, then the Ginga duology

I just finished watching Geats plus the team-up movie, summer movie and ninja special episode. I enjoyed how it is basically a Kamen Rider Reality show where the fate of the world is at stake. Ace is similar to Tendo from Kabuto where he is a cocky and almost a know-all character but he is actually a good person especially to kids and his desire to see his mother is very touching. I also agree that for since like the last 10 or so Rider series, we have had an evil Kamen rider as the final villain and even the movies which I really getting sick of since it is basically Rider vs Rider all over again. Probably why I always prefer Showa villains as they are all unique and not a doppelganger of a rider.
Of course, Toei has to sell toys which is why everyone doesn't really have a fixed rider form until the final arc and even that they don't even start as their final form and start as basic form every time. I actually like the Jyamato monsters since they looked creepy, especially the upgraded ones but were pushed to the sidelines due to the DGP producers, game masters and sponsors getting into the action.
Next, I will be watching Gotchard. I know people have mixed feelings for Gotchard but I am going in blind so that I have my own thoughts once I am done. I did watch the 1st two episodes of Gavv and I like that Gavv is like the Showa Riders with Shouma being turned into a Cyborg with a belt that is built into his stomach and an organisation that is similar to the Sonozaki Family from Kamen Rider W.
I never made it past episode 1 of Gotchard, so I wish you luck. Someday I will have to watch the whole thing since I'll need to review it, but today is not that day. 🙂
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Just finished watching Gotchard...it was okay not great like Geats but some questions left unresolved and the finale is very rushed. Some plots have to watch the specials and team up movie otherwise you won't understand what happen to this character or how some things came about in the tv series. Overall, a 2 out of 5. You can watch it but you will forget what happened in T minus one day...yeah alrdy forgot about it...only left the Gotchard Daybreak movie which is not out yet...
Geats may not be the best season but it was still great and is in my top 10, also glad you gave it a 4 cause I remember you gave i a 3 when you first watched it

The reason Ryuki riders were added into the Geats x Revice movie was because it was Ryuki's 20th anniversary.
And I figure Takahashi loves Ryuki.

The one with Zio had a plot for Ryuki trio, but here I feel like those 3 were approached by Colus to make his DGP interesting.
@@royshaheer Since Ryuki was the first series to use a Rider War format with the reward having your wish granted, I think it fits well into the setting of Geats.
Ryuki was the season that got me introduced to Rider. But even my bias couldn't have me forgive its cop out ending.
Loved how Ouja got his on-screen Survive Form via Outsiders though.

Geats is the second Rider to achieve the title of god after Gaim.
Hence why I would love a Gaim/Geats Gods Among Riders special.
For me Geats is Masterpiece. But i can't wait for next Review Kamen Rider Gotchard.
I won't be reviewing Gotchard for quite some time. I've got other series to tackle first.
Just started geats. So far with how reiwa is going after 01(i did like 01 despite it running short) its okay.
I wouldn't mind if all series ended in the early 40s rather than 50s.
Just finished geats. I still its okay. I think its better what i saw in saber (i despise saber btw). Wont say its better than revice since I havent seen it fully.
Kokoro aoshima did get better at acting after dragon blood. She was terrible in that and so was her character.

I agree with you on the super hero time ad thing. My guess is is that they forgot to edit them out. I also started ghost and I like the similarities to drive.

It wuold be cool having an kamen rider kinda like heats were the riders participate in an game of sorts but this time being an hunt game were they are hunted by alien poachers and wen a raider defeats an poacher the rider gets the poacher’s trophy that work as the gimmicks of the season(if I said something similar to this comment it)

The season is okay. Not as good as Kamen Rider 555 In My opinion But luckily I had a fun time with Kamen Rider Gatchard it's similar to Goseiger Kamen Rider Ryuki blade decade and ultraman decker except for the first time, it could bind two cards to make a Heshin transformation the main character kind of remind me of Yuya from Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V😊

Geats manage to differentiated itself from a lot of previous rider series with their tiresome formulas, so it was refreshing. Although, it also suffered from a subpar final arc especially with the ending like making sure they check the box where the final villain is another evil rider along with the sense they are padding for time again.
A lot of the lore about the desire grand prix is mostly reveal in the summer movie or epilogue movie, which in ways contradict the tv series. However, the show looks great right now when compare to gotchard side by side in both acting and script wise. Also, tokushoutsu is live streaming the full series right now for free here.
It was the epilogue movies, but I don't really see how they contradicted anything. In fact, I thought the Gazer and Jyamato Awakening movies were some of the best post-series content we have ever had from a KR series. Geats does suffer from some issues though, and Takahashi did repeat a lot of his ideas from Ex-Aid and Zero-One. However, that is all I'll say for now since the review hasn't premiered yet.
So far I’ve been loving geats, I’m on disc 6 and I have to say this is my favorite of the shout factory rider releases, this show also reminds me of the word ends with you games

I think Keiwa and Kagami are both intended to be ultimately be in the wrong, because they are myopic and self righteous and unable to grasp when they aren't in the right, which leads them to making things worse.

It wuold be cool an water kamen rider where the gimmick is the water switches that are in the bathroom to wash your hands (I don’t remember the name sorry) work as the switch that activates the effect of the gimmick and the gimmicks themselves

This show was different for me and I enjoyed even with the bad stuff I still looked forward to it even my least favorite episodes. Now if I had to change probably two things it would be the Kewia inner demon crap that didn't work in this show and what made it no better is that Ace didn't mention it or bring it up at all. Then there was the desistar plot which was just why. You could have did it differently is what I'm staying. I've already too told you Michinaga was my least favorite character but I hated Beroba so much I just wanted her to go away. Did I have a favorite character? Yes it was Ace himself. And this made him my first Reiwa main rider as my favorite character and his story is what made me start asking more questions with my characters in my show which is something I'm doing right now with Gotchard. If you ask me what my favorite episode was it would have to be Geats IX debut because it had some shades of Naruto and little bit of Inuyasha in it and some sprinkles of Yu Yu Hakusho. Plus Negai as a final form song is very melancholic and I like it. This was a better review compared to ZeoAgito's. Sorry if I throw shade but his reviews were riddled with mistakes and his comment section is disgusting with a dude going around browbeating you to hate this show but whatever.
The problem with the Disaster plot is it went nowhere because Beroba changed everything. I actually forgot to bring that up in my review because it was essentially Among Us Kamen Rider style.
Not familiar with ZeoAgito. I personally don't care if someone agrees with my review or not because there are going to be shows I love others hate and shows I hate others love. However, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be respectful towards the opposing opinions no matter what.
Fair point. But I really don't like when people spam and browbeat people just because they don't like this or that. That's what made his comment section disgusting to me. There was hardly no positivity in it. And the few people who had positive thoughts were harassed by some dude telling us to stop liking what we like. That's not okay at all.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork TBF, I think that's one aspect that makes the show more unique. I think the concept of the raise buckles not being locked to a specific rider (until stuff like Boost Mark II, LaserBoost, and Geats IX) is something that hasn't really been done and for me personally made it different from the predictable "The main rider gets its base form, and then here are all his ability forms, he gets his super form halfway and then final form". Yes we do run over those tropes but it didn't take away from the battle royale feel of how the gimmick was distributed.

We already got that though, it was called Kamen Rider Geats. 🙂 I mean, Kamen Rider is pretty much Sentai at this point.
What i liked about this show was Aces story, yes the camera was awe-awesome! But what i found really annoying about the villains was beroba she was really annoying if i wrote geats i would have written a villan like Aguilera from revice
Ace's story was definitely something I enjoyed more the second time.

Beroba (and Kekera too) were some of the best parts of Geats. Their actions as supporters were calling out on us Kamen Rider fans. Beroba representing how fans like to see characters repeatedly face adversity and despair. And then there's Kekera, who believes a true Rider needs to undergo tragedy thus revisiting the Showa vs Heisei debate but I digress.
Glad you liked Beroba. I did enjoy Kekera though.

Zenkaiger was more comedy than Donbrothers though, but then, I'm not a fan of that show at all. I agree about the others, though, I have not caught up on Boonboomger.

I have to defend beroba I agree she overstay her welcome but she’s a cool character and she bull cgi form was taken from zero one’s breaking mammoth and she has a flower monster form called premium beroba and knowing Gotchards Rinne actress auditioning for role of beroba was,cool but I like her as rinne as I like beroba she’s cool character going from michinagas supporter to finding him boring after he’s gets his ideal world and makes it her mission to make michinaga suffer and she teams up with kekera they made a good duo and her return in jymato awakening was cool because after her death and return to the future and coming back to the present beroba and ace are the main reason Michi buffa plosion rage

Eh, I agree that the cinematography and fight scenes are probably some of the best across the whole franchise. I wasn't bored or frustrated like with Wizard, 555, and Ghost. However, almost everything to do with the story I found to be pretty bland, and the character arcs were pretty thin sans Neon's. Plus, pretty much every antagonist was boring and one note, not just Beroba. I'd give the show a solid C. Love a lot of the ideas, but the execution was middling, imo.
Oh I loved Archimedel and really wish he had been the final villain.

It’s rare to have a cool main character. Some people even compare Geats and Keiwa to Kabuto and Gatack in term of screen time and relationships. Definitely still dislike the fact that the evil boss rider is the final enemy along with deceased allies and villains getting revived and turning good. It’s already the same for sentai for many years. By the way, Kamen Rider Majade actress audition for beroba before getting the female role Rinne next year. Beroba like Nico are annoying fan service for certain group of fans that like these kind of female personality. The reason Ryuki was added to the Geats winter movie because it’s their anniversary and both share the battle royale wish granting concept. The same with the recent Kyoryuger cast being in Kingohger because the original actors have very limited free time available to film together. The bluray is consider cheap to Japanese audience given what they usually paid there in Japan to support the anime studio along with the toys.
Yeah, there are a lot of parralels with Geats and Kabuto in that regard.
As for Ryuki, well clearly Takahashi loves Ryuki. :-)
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Honestly, Toei would of make another ryuki time anniversary movie for ryuki if they could get the full cast back especially yui. That’s probably why they shove ryuki in to geats the same way they did that with kyoryuger since there’s no way they can make a ten year return anniversary movie that can accommodate everyone busy schedule. If you watched the newest sentai vs movie the Donbrothers got the short end of the stick while still having the most characters interaction with both teams.

I like protagonists like geats and kabuto that are not loud mouth idiots. Most of the time a toku protagonist is like lucky or houtaro, they are mostly simple minded or very annoying to watch because they repeat the same catchphrases again and again and act like intellectually handicapped.
Not many main riders are loud mouthed though. Red rangers though, yeah, there are many like that (though, they've toned that down recently).
I typically prefer protagonists that don't lean too heavily towards either side, like Sento.
Geats is bad in my opinion tho characters get brought back and do nothing characters get redeem who shouldn't be redeem and the show forgets or makes new rules to get it's main character or villain a win and plot line get dropped yeah i enjoyed revice more and zero one more then it so yeah that's all
I ended up enjoying Geats a lot more this time around compared to when it first aired. The post-series movies also did not give a middle finger to the show like the Zero-One Others movies did.

Well… look who we have here, a geats hater , 😕😕😕😕😕, not that I don’t agree with something’s you’ve said but I still enjoyed the show until the end and it’s the rider series that really sparked my interest in Kamen Rider, in fact , I’d claim both Geats and Gotchard as my top favorites so far ( despite my first rider series being zero one ) , in fact I’d say it’s better than all the new MCU movies combined in my opinion, again it’s normal in fan bases to have contrasting opinions, in fact , I’d go far as to say that it’s not series that’s bad but it’s all in the way it’s executed, and I think Geats is the most well executed rider series so far in the Rewia era ,including Gotchard, despite gotchard not having the strongest first ep but it came back on track with ep 2
@@Laserraiser56 indeed geats is better then the new mcu stuff beside nwh and loki and guardian of galaxy 3 those were peak but I still liked revice and zero one better geats and saber and gotchard and mid to me
While as super sentai reiwa era is successeding and getting better and bolder rider is just failing

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork in my opinion I find geats better than revice I do plan on doing a rewatch on revice to see if my opinion still stands but also my two favorite seasons are decade and Zi-o so I don’t know what that tells you about me though.
Even after the second time, I could not stand Kamen Rider Geats wholeheartedly. One of the worst rider shows i have seen, which was a shame given how much interest i had during the first and second arc. Ace is just a perplexing main protagonist, Keiwa is treated like crap, Neon is the only one i care for in this squad while Michinaga might be my least favorite of the entire four, He had such an intriguing start only to crumble apart with a character whiplash that was half assed at best. 90% of the auxiliary riders are utterly worthless or boring and that extends to the supporters and the villains. I also could not stand the last 10 episodes of this series for it botched a lot of plotpoints to this series with the biggest one being Keiwa's character.
2/5 (generous because of the immersive action and music)
While Keiwa's bit made more sense the second time around due to things that were said earlier in the show, I still do not like how rushed they did that plot. Zero-One made you wait an episode before revealing what had happened, where he, it was like 5 minutes.
