you slayed this update, thank you. i think all alternative fashions are misunderstood, some more than others, if you're looking at them from outside. im sure goths have their own share of stereotypes they dont like hearing too much. but at the end of the day we lolitas just love frills, bows and swooshy skirts, and as many other alt fashions we dress that way for ourselves and no one else. its not that we want to look like dolls or children (like be fr where do you see kids with that much drip) its just that as adults im sure a lot of people get told that they're too old to like something, like plushies or games or cute things, and that solidifies the idea in peoples minds that those things are child-like and so it becomes the first thing they think about when they see it. in reality, its just pretty, cute and elegant clothes, the fun of putting together a pretty outfit (with things we dont get to wear often in our day to day like big headbows and really detailed prints on clothes) and hanging out with friends who also like really cute things. all that being said, all the lolitas going feral in the comments over the contraversy, and i was just waiting for you to give the poor gothic lolita sim a headpiece LOL
The Sims 4 needs to hire cc creators. The content would be more niche and correct. Even if the cc creator doesn't make maxis match, someone on the team could transition it to maxis match.
It is not a problem of the Sims team, it is a problem of "being owned by EA". A better team would still be stiffled by the demands of that company. I believe people should stop saying "Hire CC creators" and start going to the patreons of the CC creators they love and pledging and downloading the content they want.
Transitioning it to MM would be harder than you think, given a lot of those CC make alpha clothing with wrinkles built into the vertices, and very little diffuse/shadow maps.
imagine if cyber goth made a comeback during lockdown because of the masks, just leaned hard into the dystopian future era, that would have been fun, dang it
right?! 2021 was me refusing to let go of my black mask with old piercings i decorated the sides with and my hairband - cosplay welding goggles with biohazard stickers on lenses 🤣🤣🤣 but the society chose to embrace festival looks then cottage core instead... 😢
And it would be the perfect timing, if Cyberpunk 2077 hasn't been released totally broken and incomplete, and if the game was a actual mega hit success. Cybergoth could definitely have had its revival in 2020.
Yes, I grow quite fond of wearing cotton masks. It's getting in the habit and then once you get in the habit, it's not wearing one. I still wear it when it's cold, pollen.
Lolita fashion was actually never ment to be sexual. The fun part was 'lets dress like cute dolls with long skirts that cover us up so men dont oggle us' except ofc people had to be creepy about it.
The goth kit is what I'm going to call "commercial goth" because it's trying to apeal to every possible group at once, including non-goths, and everyone knows that when you try to apeal to everyone you're actually apealing to noone.
@@citrusbutter7718 like I said it's meant for everone and trying to please everyone benefits no one. Would it really hurt them to release targeted packs that will only please one group? I mean the reason add-on content like this exists is so it's optional right? Well no it's so they can proffit from the same game twice. But then imagine luring in people who wouldn't normally play the sims by having packs that target other kinds of players. Like they tried to do with the starwars pack but instead of being completely empty and fake, make it good. Like a scifi pack where the town is on a space station and all the cars and phones and stuff get reskinned in that town to feel more scifi.
While the sim pack system is incredibly flawed something I do like about it is how niche some packs are, they can be extremely fun for some people while not be the best for others. Goth galore is trying to be fun for everyone but ends up being fun for nobody in the process
When I was a teenager I called myself a “casual goth” which really just meant my parents wouldn’t let me shop for myself so my wardrobe was black tshirts and jeans 😂
@@callmek5I had this friend in high school that was... Well, she had a lot of goth styles in her wardrobe. One day she'd be close to mall goth, the other, closer to romantic or lolita. And she always, ALWAYS put so much effort into her outfits. While I was just wearing my black hoodies and jeans (because my mom wasn't a big fan of goth). 😆
I was definitely a repressed teenager. My mom wouldn’t buy me what I’d ask for Christmas but would get me something she’d wanted to see me wear. It was super disheartening and invalidating, but now I’m living my best life now in my 30s. 🥀🖤
THANK YOU someone speaking on this pack who is more informed on the subculture/knows what they’re talking about 😭 thank u for this video!!! i love how you showed so much variety and diversity in the scene!!! for some reason, it’s become a popular thought that trad goth is the only “real” and “true” goth style/way to tell someone is goth. white makeup included, which is not true!!!
From what I got, trad goths were called "true" goths back during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it was kinda in mockery within the goth community.
@@samc.319in mockery how so? i don’t know much about that which is why i’m asking haha. maybe they were called true goths in direct opposition to the mall goths that started becoming popularized in the 90s/2000s? idk i do know that the labels like trad, romantic, casual goth etc all started as jokes in the community (if that’s what ur referring to) i have heard from someone/early goth youtubers as time went on (so like late 2000s, early 2010s) the trad goth look started going out of favor (and being replaced with more of a nugoth thing etc, like how this video mentions) so it was such a 180 for them to see it being the other way around now sorry, i went on a tangent lol
It's so funny. I have been goth since before Y2K, so a little more than 25 years. I have dressed in all these styles except lolita (plus one that I think isn't very known outside of sweden? I think it is a combination of cybergoth music, and corp goth style?) I also spent a lot of my weekends after I turned 18, at gothic bars, lounges and night clubs. I also went to a music school and studied rock music, it's subgenres and it's history. But when I mentioned in a post that this kit missed its mark completely. I was literally scolded for not being informed enough about goth history. xD
The sims did goths dirty. They are such a versatile group and too see so little effort get put in is upsetting. I get vampires did cover some but this was a chance to add more and include different groups.
Realm of Magic adds stuff too. I should check if there's a way to use the Bowling Night stuff pack to make the gothabilly style with some of the Cats and Dogs hairstyles.🤔
Gothic lolita here! I was really positively suprised that the fashion was mentioned since I see a lot of people just forget it exist, there are a few things tho where I just like..😨 for example that u called it childlike multiple times, lolitas do not want to get called that since a lot of creeps and uninformed people compare it to children clothes (it also makes A LOT of us uncomfortable), second of all lolita makeup isn’t a thing you can do whatever makeup u want with it, also lolita isn’t controversial!! Creeps just try to make it weird all the time..also the fact that u mentioned Mana really shocked me I’m a good way..I literally gasped xd still love the video and I’m happy egl got mentioned :) (also lolita was spelled worng..the L is small so it’s lolita and not Lolita lol)
yes this!!! The childlike mentions made me feel icky :/ Like no it is not.... thank u.... also the outfit was not even really lolita... it was cute tho ;w;
@@glorinadean7966 yeah..it made me really uncomfortable, I feel like the outfit also wasn’t really egl like u said but she said she doesn’t know a lot about it so I don’t blame her. :,)
I feel like the controversial take is more because people discuss it a lot! It doesn't mean is problematic, just that there's a lot of people who either creats problematic around it or creeps who are weird about. So I think using controversial fits with the case.
As a VK girl, I never dressed like that because... money! But the style always spoke to me. I still listen to Dir en grey and other bands, but the style that takes the cake and my heart is from Kagrra with the Neo Japaneske or Japanese reinvented. It was fun😢❤
@@Cindy_Hollow Definitely Crowley vibes with the red hair and dark glasses. But yeah, when she started describing what corp goth was, my first thought was Crowley.
Thank you for including Lolita/EGL fashion in your video! Lolita fashion gets a horrible reputation because many connect it to the infamous Lolita book. The two are not connected in any way. Lolita fashion has and always will be about embracing cuteness, femininity and the "female gaze". So complete opposite what were the aims of that book. There are subgenres of lolita fashion that embrace s*xuality (ero lolita) but overall the fashion and community are very against those ideals. Thank you for showing our fashion in this video! 🖤 I might need to download some lolita fashion mods to my sims now!
@@faefindingawilltolive exactly. the book was supposed to be a horror novel that explores the actions of a disgusting predator. i think it gets a bad rep because of the movies and how lolita is portayed in them. the movie romanticises a book that's supposed to be disturbing, but people just ran with the movie adaptation. it's actually a pretty good book, if you're into thrillers, books that make you disgusted and seeing through the lense of a fucked up narrator.
@@momomomo__ooh might actually read it now. I enjoy reading awful bastard POVs (and writing them too… though not necessarily as intense a terrible person as Nabokov wrote)
I would love a series where you explain subcultures of fashion through sims! Possibly even a fashion and its influence through the decades kind of video? Idk girl I just want you to explain fashion to me all day long! I enjoyed this video SO MUCH!😆
As a lolita, hearing someone call it "controversial" sinks my heart. It's meant to be dressing for yourself and no one else. For some, it's expressing your feminine side. When people don't want to look into it or talk about it because they think it's bad (usually because of that stupid fucking book that is not related to the fashion) my soul crumbles.
Plus the book Lolita was essentially a horror book meant to show how awful the protagonist was. But people just read what the premise is and make false assumptions
it also made me sad to hear that part. i'm not a lolita, however i've been interested in it and i'm well versed enough to know it has strong roots in japanese feminism. So calling it controversial feels like a surface level interpretation of it just based on the name.
I feel like the controversial take is more because people discuss it a lot! It doesn't mean is problematic, just that there's a lot of people who either creats problematic around it or creeps who are weird about. So I think using controversial fits with the case. Responder
Agreed with thali ^ controversial doesn’t mean problematic, all goth fashions have been controversial at some point and most still are in some areas. It’s part of the point. Also yeah the book Lolita is not a positive take on it’s own subject matter, it was a criticism of censorship (at the time anything spicy or steamy was censored but horrifying abuse was not, the book was intended to point out that problem)
Hello! Lolita Fashion input here. Lolita is a feminist movement from Japan and gothic Lolita is one of its many subcultures. It has no relation to the book that shares the same name. Also you don't have to be goth to wear gothic Lolita or Lolita in general (Though I am since I do listen to the music😅). And also the makeup is the least important part in lolita fashion, the clothes are what defines it, specifically the silhouette of the clothes! I personally wear all substyles of Lolita depending on how I feel day by day, but gothic is definitely one of my favorites to wear! (Also the sims look wasn't entirely correct according to most definitions but props to you for getting so close cause I haven't found any good Lolita cc in a while😭, fun fact the outfit if you want to get specific is closest to gothic ero lolita!)
Also I'm so sorry for going on a tangent😅, this fashion and the community is dear to me and also a special interest of mine and i always have so much to say😅
As a victorian goth and a wanna be gothic lolita, im soooo glad that you talked about Mana! He's like such a fashion icon and Malice Mizer is an amazing group I would gladly recommand if you like Japanese gothic rock!
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING MANA-SAMA !!! Malice Mizer was his band in the 90s and for some albums they leaned hard on goth music inspiration, they're my favorite visual kei band
MANA SAMA MENTIONED!! (I might be late but I only stumbled upon this video today, but I love it when I see other visual kei fans in the wild lol) Also happy early birthday to him, tomorrow is his birthday ‼️
I'm not into the goth scene, so obviously take my outside observer's opinion with a grain of salt, but I think the biggest issue with the Goth Galore kit is self-evident in the name. It's a kit. They deliberately limited how much content can go into it, and as such they had to choose between one piece of CAS for all the subtypes, amalgamating them all into one "inspired" mess, or just going with what they see as the subtype that appeals to the most people in general.
I am a goth, you did hit the nail on the head; and I believe you are a goth too since you listen to and appreciate the origins. Instead of gatekeeping, I like to share my playlist or tell them how ubiquitous "Friday I'm in Love" plays at my work and then they understand what I am talking about. The scene is packed with a bunch of "dash" goths who don't respect the origins or the social norms of the scene and that's when the gatekeeping happens. A lot of people who dress in a gothic fashion are more metalheads, hip hop heads, and emos than goth. But will eventually listen to the stuff. But most goths I meet are either working or have toned down the look. But you will meet more goths in the gym, the grocery store, or a crafts supply shop than the mall. We place a huge emphasis on DIY than buying your way into social acceptance. My work plays a ton of darkwave and post-punk hits over the the store radio and my co-workers are old school punks and elder goths. A lot of people who market to the goth subculture do not listen to the music nor respect those who do it for the aesthetic and I think it's just techbros trying to fuck their way into acceptance since they got kicked out of the metal and rap community. Hence the bullshit we see in the latest stuff pack I have more luck talking to soccer hooligans about Joy Division and Depeche Mode than convincing a programmer we're not cosplaying as Sam Manson. Vampires, Realm of Magic, and Get Together were better at handling the goth fashion aesthetic than the Goth pack.
romance goth with sneaky elements from steampunk/cybergoth is my absolute fav and OMG MANA I WAS HOPING FOR A REF, LIL TEEN ME WAS ABSOLUTELY INTO BOTH HIS BANDS MUSIC 🖤🖤🖤
Fgg might be a fake gamer girl but she aint a fake goth lol (also i think this is the first sims youtuber to mention goth's music roots which is awesome )
As a Lolita since the 2000's this warmed my heart. If you ever need more info on the style I can show you some things. Lolita mixes so much into the looks. It is Victorian it is doll and we even mix some trad goth elements into our look. The most popular looks are the rococo inspired looks but it is all about being your most over the top but authentic self. Some of the originators of the scene are 80's to 90's j rock bands.
Heck yes, OG goth is the DIY variety. When people think "OG goth" they often picture trad goth. But that style developed in the early 90's as a callback to the late 70's early 80's post-punk and new wave fashion and just made it all black. The OG's wore a lot of color and mixed and matched fabrics, and much of it was thrifted or self-made either from scratch or by modifying existing pieces.
I don't always listen to Goth music, I do sometimes because the Goth musical genre is good, so i don't know if I can be or even consider myself Goth, but I absolutly like dressing up in Goth inspired clothing (or just clothes that mostly Goth people wear). So seeing this video really teached me a lot and made me realize even more or I love the clothing style and the whole history of Goth.
you listen to the music (even if it’s some), you seem to have an appreciation and respect for the subculture and history, i’d totally say you’re goth! you don’t have to listen to it ALL the time (though others would disagree), and it doesn’t have to be the only music you listen to! that’s so limiting. if you want to title/label yourself as goth and be apart of the scene, u def can (even though u don’t need my permission lol)
@@callmek5 Thank you for the clarification! I do indeed respect the Goth subculture and have a really soft spot for them, so yknow. But thank you for your comment, I hope you have a wonderful day!
I listen to few and far between and I feel like they may not even fully belong to the gothic genre sometimes. I probably listen to more rock. The music scene is super cool though; I just think my musical taste is all over the place lol. In all honesty, I dress in gothic fashion because it just feels like me; I also tend to mix many different styles together and it's not exclusively one type of category. Like, I'm someone who has enjoyed the darker side of things since young - horror media, alternative music and clothing, anything witchy or mythical, aesthetics etc. Can't imagine being any other way. I think you're definitely goth. I however, am not. At least, not really.
Now, I get why all goths were insulted by the new pack. Thank you so much for those explanations and also, I love that side of you that we don’t see enough on your channel.
As someone who dresses in literally any style, history bounding, nu goth, nu metal style, cottage- core etc. I HATE gatekeeping in 'aesthetic' communities. - You don't need to listen to certain music to dress a certain way. - You do not need to like history to dress historical - You don't need to live in a cottage to dress cottage-core. People, we are on this earth for a VERY short amount of time, just fuck around and have fun! (and before any goths say ''meh meh you have to listen to music11!!!!111!'' i get it when you want to find more goth friends and you find out they don't listen to the music, that's how I feel with nu metal style but understand that people may be experimenting or just having FUN because that's what life is all about. And maybe even take the opportunity to recommend music! make a friend!)
it’s like what i see online/on tiktok; if you don’t fit todays typical goth standard (as in trad goth) so many ppl in the comments will instantly call u a poser/claim u aren’t goth if you’re dressing up in a mall goth outfit or etc. maybe they just like the style? i think people can get too literal with labels that they put themselves into a box, even in alt subcultures (which is ironic lol)
As a goth raver, cybergoth is a fave and we are out here vibing. I also just love Black and neon colors together. The contrast make me happy. Like, give me all black, or black and neon😂
As a former Nu Goth during the day and Romance Goth at parties (yes I didn't have enough money to wear those gorgeous gowns all day every day do you have any idea how much even a basic corset costs), thank you for making this video. The accuracy!!!! And yes, cybergoths are so much fun, but they are a bit gone now. But damn do these kids have some moves on the dance floor. Their music always has a slow part after about 1,5 minutes in - so you could catch your breath xD love love love industrial dancing!
I love you!!! Thank you for making this video. I feel like a lot of people were confused about what goth is, so thank you for clarifying. And the background music is straight gas.💗💗
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE MUSIC!!! Omg, as a freaking 33 year old goth woman, when I try telling people that you don't have to wear the clothes to be goth, they give me this ridiculous look and we get in a freaking history lesson because so many people don't understand the subculture. They think if you aren't putting on your dark best 24/7, you don't count. Last time I checked, you didn't wake up in makeup and torn fishnets, your stuff comes off like everyone else. Sorry, this part always stuck in my craw 😂😂
6:01 i know a LOT about lolita fashion, and Lolita the book/"girl" is NOT the same in any way as lolita fashion. Lolita the book is more coquette, which idolizes youth and sexualizes it in the "romantic" sense. Lolita fashion is about being doll-like and flawless with an underlying aesthetic element, like cute/creepy/goth/blood/candy/lace etc! Eventually lolita style became more gyaru-ified and became decora kei! It's still popular but many crossover with coquette patterns and themes rather than the original doll goal.
As others have pointed out in similar comments, Lolita was never meant to be romantic. The book made it VERY clear that Humbert was a terrible and disturbed person, and that Dolores was a victim. The problem is that almost every adaptation, ESPECIALLY film, has pretty much taken it at face value and twisted it into being a romance, rather than a thriller from the villain's perspective. While the rest of your comment was correct, you're very wrong about the book. I think the one thing Lolita and lolita fashion have in common (besides the name) is that creepy men have twisted them and made them controversial. Both deserve more respect and understanding in my eyes, and I'm not even goth and didn't know lolita fashion existed till today.
Eh.. Lolita isn't even "coquette". I've read the book and it doesn't romanticize any of it.. "Coquette" as a word doesn't inherently have negative connotations either. It generally just means a playful/flirtatious young lady if u disconnect it from the toxic tik tok fashion space. Which doesn't fit Dolores in the story on all metrics, & Humbert's twisted view makes it clear he takes it farther.
Are you telling me that each time i start a new save and gave the Goth's fam makeover I was giving them Corporate Goth fits and not know it was a style?! THANK YOU!!! You have opened my eyes to the different gothic fashion
I became a goth bat when I heard Depeche Mode and my god I never went back Also I think its stupid to try and gatekeep styles that stemmed from non OG Goth music. Goth Music changed over the years as all music styles do, and its how it stays alive. And all those goth sub genres have a Vibe. That Vibe is important to the music.
i went to search up depeche mode after seeing this comment and it turns out i already have two songs in my likes playlist?! (im a goth fashion appreciator and, to my previous knowledge, had never listened to goth music before. but apparently i have. perhaps this will be the start of my own babybat era lol)
Depeche Mode was my introduction to goth music too!! but I definitely second that. Gatekeeping in any way is so wrong on so many different levels,,, Why not just appreciate the music, know its history, and just vibe?
I forgot this was a video on how the sims fumbled until the end because you just spoke with such passion about the history and subcultures of gothic fashion that I was having a great time 😂❤️
if you wanna try to make a goth outfit but have no clue what to base it on, mana-sama is good for goth lolita, siouxsie sioux and patricia morrison are good for trad goth
This was a very well put together video and I genuinely enjoyed it. Im not goth by any means but I was drawn to the explanation of the culture the entire time. Loved it
my 18-year-old romantic goth self would screech in delight at this video lol. i never knew there were so many sub-genres though, besides cyber goth which i'd seen at festivals quite a few times. and YES TO MANA-SAMA omg.
I think monster high made a great statement on non goth stereotypes because they still had the edgy goth fashion so seeing sims literally could take inspo from monster high a fashion line for gothic dolls could been amazong
FGG, thank you for this rant. I'm not gothic but I like lolita style, I just didn't know what it was called. halfway through this I decided to do my makeup for the first time in forever. I'm really bad at it and the only eyelash color i have is dark purple (Don't ask), but as chaotic and crazy as your videos are, you must be doing something right to get a depressed person to not only smile, but actually get up and do something on a really bad day.
I absolutely loved watching and listening to this video. You always make awesome content, even when you're the most chaotic, and today you managed to educate a lot of us about goth culture while still making it fun. (I don't mean that usually it's a boring topic but you get the point) Also i loved the fact that you used townies for this 😭🖤
Gothic ouji here! (Ouji = male version for Lolita) Your description of the style was great HOWEVER the purpose of making it child-like isn’t it at all! That would be more for sweet Lolita Tbh romance goth and and Lolita goth are basically the same thing, just different origins, making it look slightly different. As a goth ouji, what I enjoy in this style it’s his historical inspiration and all. Except I prefer the ouji one than the romance one. I could go on and on but with time the two styles started to blend a lot! Still, I’m really glad to be included
I've fairly recently started to really develop my sense of style and I fell in love with goth/alt fashion. You have been one of my main inspirations tbh. I didn't even know there were so many variants to it! I'm even more obsessed!!
With both my music and clothing I like kind of punkish gothish vibes, like batsleeves an a corset but with ripped jeans and way too many safety pin accessories
They shoulda just called it "The Sims 4: Bundle'a Black Clothes Kit". It's like they just Googled "Hot Topic", grabbed the first 3 outfits they saw, filed the serial numbers off and called it a day. After this, they've somehow managed to drop my expectations for the Castles Kit even lower than they already were, and that's a feat.
I am of the sort of goth/metal/punk sort of music people but I have always wanted to dress goth but so many of these styles are pretty high maintenence and I barely know how to do make up. So I just stare longingly at them. Btw LOVE you showed recognition to Cybergoth and Gothic Lolita though I had not heard about Nugoth. That might be more attainable to me.... Maybe
WONDERFUL job with the corporate goth! I have to utilize that style as a project manager at a tech company. It’s amazing what a black blazer over the subtle hint of a band tshirt with some eyeliner wings can do in terms of being able to express yourself in a professional setting.
hey girl, btw sorry about this but the picture you used at 1:58 is Angela Benedict (and her friends) who is also on youtube, just wanted to say that she isnt a mall goth, shes very much in the music scene XD I think she did a video talking about that photo as well, just wanted to let ya know x
Can we get a list of all the CC used as well? This is an amazing video but I would have loved to see the CC creators also get some love for their hardwork making all these goth stuff for us
lowkey loved that you made this dress up video educational!! i'm a femme but an ally to the goth community (goth ladies hmu) so now i know how to best one day support my goth wife
this is the first video of yours i think ive seen but i really really enjoyed it and so appreciate someone talking about the different genres of goth, especially as a lot of people dont seem to be super educated on it ! definitely earned a new fan today
And there are even moooore types of goths too that aren't as popular~! White Goths, and Hippie Goths are my favorites! For the first imagine all the leather, the belts, the garters, all the stuff we think of when we think edgy, just white. Same look, just more like those evil twins from the second Matrix movie. The second is just like it sounds. Long tiered skirts, triangle headbands, crochet tops, trifted clothes, all things boho, just more goth. Blacks, dark greens, dark browns, a kind of modern day peasant look with more edge. I used to be super goth, but now I just listen to the music and wear nightmare befor christmas shirts year-round. 😅 ..Also, Lolita fashion came long before the work we all dread. No association, the creator just is a monster who ruined the fashion for everyone, and we need to stop bringing it up so it can be forgotten for good.
This was really cool! I know absolutely nothing about goth, outside of traditional or romantic fashions, so getting a visual representation with some context is amazing. This is one of my favorite videos you've ever done. I'm so glad I didn't invest in that kit especially after seeing what goth could encompass vs what we got. Thanks for sharing!💜
the universal truth in culture and social life: "now we are the people we didn't want to be 30 years ago". When i go out today and see the current "goth" or "alternative" scene in general i think to myself "NOPE"... Then i realize 30 years ago, the old farts in the very same clubs were thinking the same about me and it makes me smile. Same goes when i go for a walk and pass some of those poor kids who are forced to share public places with the older gen (probably no internet at home or whatever). I always hear somebody (or myself) talking about the good old times, when we were sooo different and stuff. Actually, it is bs. We were the same, prettier for sure, smarter obviously, but in general the same. Thank you for the video, it was quite fun to watch, even i have no idea how i ended up here.
I know you went over this a little already but please dont call lolita child-like!! Also mana-sama is awesome! Love him, his style is actually Vkei! or visual kei, which is like trad goth's Japanese cousin and helped birth the concept of gothic lolita! Lolita fashion is inspired by Victorian fashion and is themed around social stances and lifestyles similar to many other alt fashions like punk. Lolita fashion symbolizes trying to break away from traditional beauty standards and being cute modest and feminine in a way that supports yourself and not men's ideals! Because of this there is a lot of queer culture in lolita as well as self love and love of feminism!
did anyone see where she complained that their is so much gate keeping in the goth scene in a video about how what they gave us "was not goth" .... they tried my dudes
I LOVE THIS!!! I'm goth and it for sure is also a huge special interest of mine. I wasn't overly disappointed with the official kit but obviously it needed a lot more to it.

i'm glad people warned you abt this, it's sl annoying whenever people don't know what lolita actually is and assume it is child-like and creepy
you slayed this update, thank you. i think all alternative fashions are misunderstood, some more than others, if you're looking at them from outside. im sure goths have their own share of stereotypes they dont like hearing too much. but at the end of the day we lolitas just love frills, bows and swooshy skirts, and as many other alt fashions we dress that way for ourselves and no one else. its not that we want to look like dolls or children (like be fr where do you see kids with that much drip) its just that as adults im sure a lot of people get told that they're too old to like something, like plushies or games or cute things, and that solidifies the idea in peoples minds that those things are child-like and so it becomes the first thing they think about when they see it. in reality, its just pretty, cute and elegant clothes, the fun of putting together a pretty outfit (with things we dont get to wear often in our day to day like big headbows and really detailed prints on clothes) and hanging out with friends who also like really cute things.
all that being said, all the lolitas going feral in the comments over the contraversy, and i was just waiting for you to give the poor gothic lolita sim a headpiece LOL
Thank you for listening to us about it, it was disheartening to hear that but am glad you have looked more into it and put helpful information! 💙💙
No, no non really bad idea, they will transform this i to micro transaction galore instead
@@Weiswolfe pretty sure they've already done it with The Sims Store as well
Transitioning it to MM would be harder than you think, given a lot of those CC make alpha clothing with wrinkles built into the vertices, and very little diffuse/shadow maps.
Yes, exactly. Just like how Mojang hired one of the most popular modders.
imagine if cyber goth made a comeback during lockdown because of the masks, just leaned hard into the dystopian future era, that would have been fun, dang it
We are already living in a dystopia, I guess COVID was just a massive wake up call.
Yes, I grow quite fond of wearing cotton masks. It's getting in the habit and then once you get in the habit, it's not wearing one. I still wear it when it's cold, pollen.
Honestly thought it would surge during lock down LOL
Lolita fashion was actually never ment to be sexual. The fun part was 'lets dress like cute dolls with long skirts that cover us up so men dont oggle us' except ofc people had to be creepy about it.
The goth kit is what I'm going to call "commercial goth" because it's trying to apeal to every possible group at once, including non-goths, and everyone knows that when you try to apeal to everyone you're actually apealing to noone.
When they showed the colorful swatches i thought "of course, of course.....". Who is that pack actually meant for?
@@citrusbutter7718not all of goth has to be all black, pastel goth is a thing
While the sim pack system is incredibly flawed something I do like about it is how niche some packs are, they can be extremely fun for some people while not be the best for others. Goth galore is trying to be fun for everyone but ends up being fun for nobody in the process
@@aroramccracken2429 should have been like the other packs and been fun for goths specifically
When I was a teenager I called myself a “casual goth” which really just meant my parents wouldn’t let me shop for myself so my wardrobe was black tshirts and jeans 😂
Literally my style nowadays. Too lazy and too broke to shop for 'actually' gothic clothes, but still wanna feel like a bat 🙃
haha that’s most of us tbh, no one has the time to be dressing up everyday
Lol same. On most days I'm too lazy to style so I put on a shirt and jeans and go on with life.
@@samc.319in mockery how so? i don’t know much about that which is why i’m asking haha. maybe they were called true goths in direct opposition to the mall goths that started becoming popularized in the 90s/2000s? idk
i do know that the labels like trad, romantic, casual goth etc all started as jokes in the community (if that’s what ur referring to)
i have heard from someone/early goth youtubers as time went on (so like late 2000s, early 2010s) the trad goth look started going out of favor (and being replaced with more of a nugoth thing etc, like how this video mentions) so it was such a 180 for them to see it being the other way around now
sorry, i went on a tangent lol
It's so funny. I have been goth since before Y2K, so a little more than 25 years. I have dressed in all these styles except lolita (plus one that I think isn't very known outside of sweden? I think it is a combination of cybergoth music, and corp goth style?) I also spent a lot of my weekends after I turned 18, at gothic bars, lounges and night clubs. I also went to a music school and studied rock music, it's subgenres and it's history.
But when I mentioned in a post that this kit missed its mark completely. I was literally scolded for not being informed enough about goth history. xD
I was just about to comment this!!
Yes, I was about to comment how Goth is a music style and there isn't a "right way" to be goth, I'm glad she explained it
The sims did goths dirty.
It wasn't even Trad Goth, I would have thought that would have been the best/easiest choice.
Honey, that's why I hope the Sims stay away from an African expansion pack if they aren't going to put in 150%.
which is especially funny because I think a lot of goth nerds are into the sims.
@@Missginalove i want more afro hairs though, they should make a hair kit with afro-textured hair
As a goth, this made me so happy I honestly got emotional. Goth is so misunderstood and to have you teaching the masses is just perfect. Thank you! 🖤💀
Creeps just try to make it weird all the time..also the fact that u mentioned Mana really shocked me I’m a good way..I literally gasped xd still love the video and I’m happy egl got mentioned :) (also lolita was spelled worng..the L is small so it’s lolita and not Lolita lol)
yes this!!! The childlike mentions made me feel icky :/ Like no it is not.... thank u.... also the outfit was not even really lolita... it was cute tho ;w;
@@ThaliMoraes maybe, to me in the video it just seems like she’s saying the style is controversial which it isn’t
Name comes from the book lolita. Origin is childlike clothing but you can say it evolved from that.
mana-sama mention!! i’m so happy you looked more into it the gothic lolita / visual kei subculture in japan is peak 💛
As a VK girl, I never dressed like that because... money! But the style always spoke to me. I still listen to Dir en grey and other bands, but the style that takes the cake and my heart is from Kagrra with the Neo Japaneske or Japanese reinvented. It was fun😢❤
Im happy she looked into it but her knowledge of Gothic Lolita was extremely surface level.
@@Tiny_Koi not even that... 😢😢😢 she repeatedly so many harmful stereotypes...
@@LookingForFrogs yeah 👀 I love her content so Im trying to say it in a nice way... but yeesh
She at least gave the egl one a hime cut lol, I thought that was cute.
Putting Eliza in corp goth just made her into Dana Scully 😎
so cool
I got Crowley (good omens) vibes from corp goth actually ☝🏼👀
@@Cindy_Hollow Definitely Crowley vibes with the red hair and dark glasses. But yeah, when she started describing what corp goth was, my first thought was Crowley.
omg yess
When I think of corpo goth I think of the character Therese Voerman from Vampire the mascarade bloodlines.
🖤 I might need to download some lolita fashion mods to my sims now!
not only that but the book was never meant to be romanticised. it's so disturbing how a twisted book can be turned into a love story
Name comes from the book.
@@begumarpac1745 and where did you learn that..?

@@FakeGamerGirlOfficial Oh my gosh, amazing!! Can't wait to watch it! 🥰
As a sweet lolita of 5 years, that part also made me a lil sad :(
it also made me sad to hear that part. i'm not a lolita, however i've been interested in it and i'm well versed enough to know it has strong roots in japanese feminism.
This!! Nothing on the head made me die a little on the inside... T-T
They're also my fave!
MANA SAMA MENTIONED!! (I might be late but I only stumbled upon this video today, but I love it when I see other visual kei fans in the wild lol)
Also happy early birthday to him, tomorrow is his birthday ‼️
As someone who is big on scene clothes and music CYBERGOTH IS LITERALLY AMAZING
As someone who is someone i am someone.
Fgg might be a fake gamer girl but she aint a fake goth lol (also i think this is the first sims youtuber to mention goth's music roots which is awesome )
i’m someone who wear lolita fashion (gothic and old school) and i am so glad you brought up mana sama!
Don't forget budget goth! When you can't afford high fashion so you either thrift or make it yourself! That was me for at least 4 years of my life
that’s just goth in general! a lot of it is based in diy (or at least it should be, corporations just like to capitalize off subcultures)
I was about to say that sounds like HotTopic
@@blunniee of course!! (:
Oogly boogly will always be my favorite take from that review
As someone who dresses in literally any style, history bounding, nu goth, nu metal style, cottage- core etc. I HATE gatekeeping in 'aesthetic' communities.
- You don't need to listen to certain music to dress a certain way.
- You do not need to like history to dress historical
- You don't need to live in a cottage to dress cottage-core.
THANK YOU SM ILY FOR THIS
exactly!!!!!
it’s like what i see online/on tiktok; if you don’t fit todays typical goth standard (as in trad goth) so many ppl in the comments will instantly call u a poser/claim u aren’t goth if you’re dressing up in a mall goth outfit or etc. maybe they just like the style?
i think people can get too literal with labels that they put themselves into a box, even in alt subcultures (which is ironic lol)
THANK YOUU
100% with you
As a goth raver, cybergoth is a fave and we are out here vibing.
As a lolita goth, I'm so sosoososossoooo happy you mentioned our subculture and Mana-sama!!!!
You know... I love this and I feel like I walk away knowing something I didn't know when I started. A+
I’m honestly a bit disappointed that cyber goth fashion hasn’t picked up again considering all the cyberpunk stuff coming out. Like this is the time!!
ABBY FROM NCIS WAS MY GOTH AWAKENING
Are you telling me that each time i start a new save and gave the Goth's fam makeover I was giving them Corporate Goth fits and not know it was a style?! THANK YOU!!! You have opened my eyes to the different gothic fashion
I became a goth bat when I heard Depeche Mode and my god I never went back
Also I think its stupid to try and gatekeep styles that stemmed from non OG Goth music.
Omg Mana sama and lolita fashion mentioned! But seriously tho, all of these look so amazing, it's awesome to see how diverse the goth scene is. 🖤🎀

Romance goth could be described just by “Morticia Addams”
So amazing that you mentioned Mana-sama.. He was one of my inspirations since I was little and one of the reasons I dress how I do!
if you wanna try to make a goth outfit but have no clue what to base it on, mana-sama is good for goth lolita, siouxsie sioux and patricia morrison are good for trad goth

Hi! At 1:32 that’s actually an AI image from a couple years back
I absolutely loved watching and listening to this video. You always make awesome content, even when you're the most chaotic, and today you managed to educate a lot of us about goth culture while still making it fun. (I don't mean that usually it's a boring topic but you get the point)
Also i loved the fact that you used townies for this 😭🖤
Gothic ouji here! (Ouji = male version for Lolita)
Your description of the style was great HOWEVER the purpose of making it child-like isn’t it at all!
That would be more for sweet Lolita
Tbh romance goth and and Lolita goth are basically the same thing, just different origins, making it look slightly different.
As a goth ouji, what I enjoy in this style it’s his historical inspiration and all. Except I prefer the ouji one than the romance one.
I could go on and on but with time the two styles started to blend a lot! Still, I’m really glad to be included
Fashion sub genres are so neat!!
I've fairly recently started to really develop my sense of style and I fell in love with goth/alt fashion. You have been one of my main inspirations tbh. I didn't even know there were so many variants to it! I'm even more obsessed!!
You forgot pastel goth
As an English punk, Goths are my music cousins lol
With both my music and clothing I like kind of punkish gothish vibes, like batsleeves an a corset but with ripped jeans and way too many safety pin accessories
They shoulda just called it "The Sims 4: Bundle'a Black Clothes Kit". It's like they just Googled "Hot Topic", grabbed the first 3 outfits they saw, filed the serial numbers off and called it a day.
After this, they've somehow managed to drop my expectations for the Castles Kit even lower than they already were, and that's a feat.
Loving the fits and the goth fashion lecture, thank you!
i absolutely adoorrreee the Kamiiri hair you used for the first sim, one of my go-to's for sure.
Maybe
You giving Bella Goth the Romance Goth look made me really happy because it suits her really well
Bella suits the romantic goth style very much, love it ❤🖤
WONDERFUL job with the corporate goth! I have to utilize that style as a project manager at a tech company. It’s amazing what a black blazer over the subtle hint of a band tshirt with some eyeliner wings can do in terms of being able to express yourself in a professional setting.
hey girl, btw sorry about this but the picture you used at 1:58 is Angela Benedict (and her friends) who is also on youtube, just wanted to say that she isnt a mall goth, shes very much in the music scene XD I think she did a video talking about that photo as well, just wanted to let ya know x
that mall santa looks absolutely terrifyed lol 2:05
Loved this, thanks for hyping up Cybergoth
Can we get a list of all the CC used as well? This is an amazing video but I would have loved to see the CC creators also get some love for their hardwork making all these goth stuff for us
lowkey loved that you made this dress up video educational!! i'm a femme but an ally to the goth community (goth ladies hmu) so now i know how to best one day support my goth wife
I loved how youactually pu work on the research!! I wish I had The Sims to make a mansion full of Goth of diferent types 😭
6:34 MALICE MIZER MENTIONNED ❗❗❗WHAT IS BAD MUSIC ⁉⁉⁉🔥🔥🔥
RAAAAHHHHH
Catching all malice mizer fans in the comment section 8/?
absolutely loved this video and the way you explained the differences between these genres🖤🌿 really fun and inspiring!!
mana sama mentioned 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Catching all mana fans in this comment section (3/?)
this is the first video of yours i think ive seen but i really really enjoyed it and so appreciate someone talking about the different genres of goth, especially as a lot of people dont seem to be super educated on it ! definitely earned a new fan today
..Also, Lolita fashion came long before the work we all dread. No association, the creator just is a monster who ruined the fashion for everyone, and we need to stop bringing it up so it can be forgotten for good.
god i love cyber goth! I'm not a goth but the style is just everything i love with a passion
Uhh what about Pastel Goth?
This was really cool! I know absolutely nothing about goth, outside of traditional or romantic fashions, so getting a visual representation with some context is amazing. This is one of my favorite videos you've ever done. I'm so glad I didn't invest in that kit especially after seeing what goth could encompass vs what we got. Thanks for sharing!💜
I love egl but I find myself more in the otome category as I get older.
I had many a goth friend in the late-90s, but personally had no aesthetic of my own. Loved this history lesson and the edited in example clips!
*cried is console player*
Yep 😖
This was very educational and a fun video to watch! Awesome to see the different goth styles, which the Sims 4 sadly failed to represent...
girl turned into young sheldon lol
the universal truth in culture and social life: "now we are the people we didn't want to be 30 years ago".
Because of this there is a lot of queer culture in lolita as well as self love and love of feminism!
oooh a comprehensive guide on gothic subculture AND a dope sims video too? Super cool/aesthetic!
as a scene kid, cyber goths and mall goths are absolutely our parents in the sub cultures ! i adore both of those styles so much
I'm a metalhead but goths are so cool! Yall who dress goth are always so detailed w ur outfits irs si cool!!
did anyone see where she complained that their is so much gate keeping in the goth scene in a video about how what they gave us "was not goth" .... they tried my dudes
literally with “real goth” on the thumbnail how hypocritical
yeah, was never a fan of a lot of this youtuber’s takes. i guess I can just press ‘ignore’ or ‘stop these videos’ but didn’t have the energy until now
I love this so much!!! As a fashion designer who loves goth culture, i think this is perfect!!
I love gothic lolita and lolita fashion as a whole, i hate how ppl connect it to the lolita book.
I LOVE THIS!!! I'm goth and it for sure is also a huge special interest of mine. I wasn't overly disappointed with the official kit but obviously it needed a lot more to it.
