I tried the Sky King short after the amps release. What you hear in Shawns excellent demo is exactly what you get. On stagevolume it is a tad on the bright side (for me), but you can tailor it and there's always a tonepot on the guitar.
Dude that is one of the best sounding am0s ive ever heard when you added a little bit of dirt I di not expect that tone but man even the clean is just perfect great mids perfect teeble tone very clean trebles not to bright bu t nice and snappy and great low end I really want this amp now it has the exact tone I go for and its without pedals thats just crazy man very very nice
Of course, Shawn makes everything sound tremendous, but this is a really killer amp. Great clean tones and I was really digging the lead tones too. The two-channel attenuator gives you some serious flexibility too. I knew Tone King was making impressive gear, but I was really impressed by this video.
A lot of very Beckish numbers these past few tests (but with totally Tubbish choice of notes!).... lovely! .....and we’re still waiting for Shawn’s Greatest Hits CD!!
I like the linear setting man sounded amazing grwat review also man as usual amazing amp solid all around and amazing playing as always lol keep em coming man lol
Man that instrumental was phenomenal Ha I keep watching the TK demo's waiting on the Gremlin drop this Thursday from Sweetwater lol Got my a/b/y box ready Very cool
The Sky King has a 6L6 power section which is going to sound bolder and less compressed. The Imperial is much more like a really sweet sounding Deluxe. It's got a 6V6 power section and will be a bit more compressed feeling.
CD/ CD- CD !! Thanks Shawn for this sweet balad ! On the DG part, one could think you play slide: total control of the term-bar !! What's the speaker in this amp? Great tone ! \m/
I wish you did half of your Demo's with a cheap Mexi Strat so that every day players can see what is sounds like. That Suhr guitar sounds crazy good, but most people do not have that level of guitar... Hence the Mexi Strat for authentication.
Thierry Lopes not sure of you bought one yet, but the Imperial Mkii has a trick up its sleeve to help with having only one attenuator. There's a switch to bypass the clean channel so the attenuator only works on lead channel. You can run cleans with full headroom, but dial down the lead channel to match volumes.
@@ShawnTubbs Good to know It seems Like when you attenuate the clean tones that they start breaking up. I had the Tone King Attenuator unit that I tried with my Rivera Clubster 45 I play in a duo but I couldn't get the clean tones under control volume wise and get the feel of the tube amp. It seemed like it started breaking up , I was starting to think these attenuators only work well on dirty to distorted sounds.... Maybe having the separate attenuator for clean and lead will be the difference... I'm going to order a Sky King and give it a try!!! Great playing by the way!!!
I’m confused. Premier Guitar online comes out with an article 8/24/18 “Tone King Unveils the Sky King Combo”. Hasn’t this amp been out for a while? What am I missing besides Mark Bartel not working at Tone King?
They were hand-wired (in a cool, funky pyramid you have to see) from 2013 to 2018. In 2018, they went to PCB, different speaker, changed speaker ohm outs (4 and 8 in 2013, 8 and 16 in 2018). The tubes differ between the two models, as well. I have the original version, and sold 6 Fender-esque amps after getting familiar with the versatility of this. Records like a dream, even attenuated down.
@@soofitnsexy I've always loved loved loved my Super Reverbs and thats what I use now but they are a pain to move around. Theres just something about 4 10" speakers moving air that does it for me and it makes a bigness that I've become familiar with. But I still lust for the SK and I will get another one some day. If you are on the fence, theres a used one for 2K on reverb right now.. Let me know what You end up with! Good luck on your tone journey, cheers!
@@brianhensien me too! i live in nyc in a nice apartment but neighbors!!loll I have an amazing vox ac 10 soooo loud.. but I hear these tone kings have a magical sound! but I did pretty good with a 475 dollar vox ac 10
Shawn you are truly Gods gift to us guitar players! You’re giving and humble. When your CD goes on sell you’ve got a built in audience. Thanks
Finding good descriptive adjectives for tone is a real art, isn't it? Another great video Shawn. Thanks.
Wow, this sounds amazing. Great playing, Great guitar and a damn fine amp. Perfect with just the right amount of headroom for small rooms.

Great review thanks. So many reviews are “look at how I play” and miss the tonal details of what they are reviewing.
That’s a really nice tune, Shawn!
Absolutely beautiful opening number. Amp sounds really nice and the power scaling sounds like it works quite well.
Only just seen this now... Beautiful!

Awesome amp, playing, and review. The song seemed like a take on Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny. I liked it.

smooooth demo, thx Shawn
Great job as always! I would have liked to have heard the lead channel in the linear mode.
Sweet tune (and sweet tone) (as always)
That's so much landau vibe, mixed to steve lukather... I love this track

Loved the PRS solo part

Great playing and nice tone. Liked and subscribed.

great ! any real difference sound wise between the imperial 2 and this ? or it just more features on the Sky king?? thanks!

Really nice demo. How would you compare it to the Imperial soundwise ?
I think the Sky King sounds a bit bolder than the Imperial.
sky king vs Imperial mark II, pleas made it video

TJ Nugent Good remark. I think Shawn would make it sound great with a tennis racket though… :)))
I agree... but still. Just for the cheap guitar crowd.. Amaze us please.
Im hesitate betwinn imperial and Sky King what is your opinion ?
I'm a fan of 6v6 power sections so I tend to lean towards the Imperial.
Thanks i m bying imperial but in one atenuator and Sky King is two and this is why i m hesitate

Is this the PCB version ?? Thanks Great playing
I'm not sure on that. Reach out to Tone King. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Nice dude!
Thanks Chris!
Are the clean tones loud enough before they break up?
It's a pretty efficient 35-watt amplifier. It certainly has more clean headroom than a Fender Deluxe.

The Sky King was discontinued awhile back, it's just been brought back.
Thank you Alex, good to know.
Any idea if these are hand wired point to point?

Bring it!!
I have just sold my Sky King amp. Maybe that was a mistake.:-(
whats wrong with u...and what did you get??
I bought a used one on reverb, loved it but ended up selling it and have always regretted that. Best sounding amp in my opinion
