- In his New Year's message, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledged the tough global landscape but expressed confidence that "Germany will get through it."
The German leader highlighted the obstacles the country successfully overcame in 2023, both domestically and internationally.
With many key general elections to be held worldwide in 2024, most notably in the United States, United Kingdom, India and the European Parliament, Scholz reiterated the importance of these elections - particularly in the US - with wars still raging in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The chancellor emphasized that Germany's strength resides in the European Union.
With inflation having sunk from an average of 7.9% in 2022 to 3.2% in November 2023, the lowest level in two years, Scholz spoke of a much brighter economic outlook than a year ago - even if Germany's rate of inflation is still some way higher than the Eurozone average of 2.4%.
Scholz, who is the leader of Germany's Social Democrats (SPD), also said the coalition government will prioritize upgrading road and rail infrastructure in what he described as a need to "invest powerfully in the future."

Easy to judge from hindsight. Noone can be always strong, or maybe not strong in the beginning. But Scholz is not in any way connected to the actual problem like Russia is. We can only hope that all of this makes US focus on being stronger. And generally often the way of quickly become stronger is facing sudden hardships like tge current ones. Dont worry. There has been far worse hardships.
Think of yourself. Have you ever scolded at yourself for being too weak in dealing in a relationship, or in a fight or something else? And if you did. You understand that we cant always be strkng. But we can learn. And we do.

As a Dutch and Greek I strongly value your speech. We need to be strong as Europe, but also the free world. We still need to stay kind. As this is a big strength. But we should not look away to any form of evil. And in that regard. We need to be strong, a unity, increase investment in military, and like that increase the chances for the world to stay safe and to not fall into any form of world war. Why would he? It was a lot of scrap metal even before it was blown up. Nord Stream 2 never went into operation, because _Germany_ didn't turn the tap _on._ And Nord Stream 1 was turned _off_ by _Putin_ a month before it was blown up. We've build enough LNG-terminals in no time and gas prices are back to pre-war levels. End of story. PS: Gazprom has 90% less revenue. A classic case of "shooting yourself in the foot".
