Thank you for the lovely comment! yeah doesnt have to be complicated, a few very good bits of kit, a lot of which are really old. A stove, some coffee. And the route, well I needed to do that journey anyway. Just so nice to be out and go slowly and look around
A video from you is such a treat. The ancient churches, the poignant children’s wreaths (and sadly so many of them), the exquisite painted panels…. Sad but lovely. Please …Keep spoiling us 😘Love those magic pancakes…wish I could virtually “gift “you some maple syrup! I chuckled when I saw your usual cycling clothes and kit… a girl after my own heart. I hope you had a special time with your husband and now you are heading back to your darling Dad. Your heart must live in two places. Stay well dear S. It’s spring here in Oz .. my chickens are free ranging, my roses and sweet peas are flowering and fragrant… not a cloud in the blue, blue sky… a hot cuppa.. bliss.

Hello from Australia! Thinking about going over there soon with the Bromptons - so thanks for the video. But I laughed the other day when I said to my husband (to which he agreed): “Wow, we haven’t seen Susanna for a while. Hope she’s okay”. AS IF I WAS TALKING ABOUT A BEST FRIEND. 😂😂😂😂 AND we both cracked up laughing. So….good to see you again. Great video. Thx
Great to see you back on here Susanna .Your looking good so I hope your feeling fine. Just like when I viewed your last videos you amaze me with the distances you ride on your Brompton. Hopefully they will read this and give you a free one. Looking forward to your next video now.
Looks like another great adventure Susanna, especially nice to see the churches, sad too to see those wreaths that were placed on the coffin lids of the children. A lot of history! The chap that stopped in the truck was probably harmless and just wanted to be a bit nosey but he was asking some prying questions! It's my birthday today (18th Oct) and for a treat me and my mate Dave are taking the train out to Kemble and riding the 20 or so miles back home. No big distance but it will still be an adventure. We will both be riding our Bromptons ofcourse :)
Hello Sandy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope you had a great time today, sounds like a lovely plan you guys have! Aw thanks for watching this one! glad you enjoyed it. Yeh omg those memorials for the children, that was really moving to see. I had never seen anything like that before. And then it kind of hit home to come across that little gang of primary school children actually, just down the road, and think about it... Yeh the farmer guy was lovely really! it is sad that we have to be wary but men are unpredictable, and potentially highly dangerous. It is the same as with cows - treat with caution cos on rare occasions they can be lethal. That proably sounds weird! but that is kind of what it is like in a way. Anyway! It is what it is. If noone knows where I am, then I can relax. Thanks for watching! great to see you out so much too!
As always a great video! It's always interesting to see how you deal with problems as they arise along the journey: it's the essence of the journey itself. and it's also fun to see you cook in the evening, after a long day of cycling. thanks for the video, I hope to see the second part soon
Ooooooh, the sweet sound of water pouring into a Trangia pot 😍 Immediate yoga-like calmness spreads within ❤️ Thank you so much Susanna for yet another wonderful bike travel video!! Lovely Swedish landscapes! …And now, having been born in Jylland I look forward even more to the next episode!!! Greetings & all the best from Copenhagen 🙏
Thank you Susanna for another wonderful video. As a history (and cycling) enthusiast I especially appreciate how you research and relate the stories behind many of the locations you visit. Even bits of local concern are interesting such as the closing of the lumber mill. I’m always happy when you post a new video. I hope your Dad is doing well!
Hello! aw thanks for watching and for writing such a thoughtful comment. Yeh cycling is kind of just the right pace to be able to take things in as you go. I love that. Yeh that sawmill was evocative and interesting wasnt it. When I head off somewhere I usually do a fair bit of research beforehand, but then later I always discover things that I missed, eg I found out later that just off my route on this journey there was a pre christian holy well deep in woodland, where people used to take sick children for healing. Hundreds of coins were found there when someone dug it out in about 1900. Sounded amazing and I would love to have tried to find that place. Hey ho. Yeh Dad is doing OK. So kind of you! Dad and I have just been out again on another adventure together actually. We both enjoy it very much. Thanks so much for writing!
Well as was on edge the whole time thinking “now pick some whortleberries, pick some whortleberries….” And you did! Huzzah for foraging! Some of those pitches by the water looked good for the soul. Looking forward to the next installment. Thanks as always for all the effort making these vid’s - take care :-)
One more lovely video to brighten up our days! Thank you Susanna for taking us with you. I particularly like the pleasure you get from cooking a simple healthy meal at the end of a long day on your bike. Looking forward to more adventures. Wishing you health and many more travels.
Oh, this is a treat seeing this on my sub list. I always enjoy your videos. Funnily enough my youngest daughter is spending a year studying in Gothenburg. She loves it.
This looks like a really peaceful place. Thanks for sharing. You have a lovely pace to your videos. And I always enjoy seeing what you’re cooking. Yes I know what you mean about navigating out of towns - I find it’s rarely straight forward! 😊🚲🌿
Thank you for showing our wonderful country. Love the way you share the swedish history. Love the wildcamping spots you find on your way.😍 Maybe I'll hop on a biketrip next summer. 🚲
Really enjoyed that video. I lived in Småland for 16 years but now I have moved back to Göteborg 😍 I actually live quite close to the Strama Line terminal.
glad you enjoyed it punkhiker! oh I probably rode right past your place! very nice there. I had a great dagens lunch at Seaside in the ferry terminal with a view of the ferries and things
Always lovely to see you having another adventure. 'Had my Brompton with me so why not......' really made me chuckle. I guess riding rough gravel on small wheels is hard and energy draining. I'm looking forward to the next leg of your journey. Thank you for sharing your trip.
Hi Colin! thanks for writing! haha yeh it was just too tempting, got all my gear, and a journey to do... so why ride haha. Yeh the small wheels cope fine with light hardpacked gravel roads, which means they are OK on a large of the Swedens huge network of gravel tracks. But if a track has just been relaid it is a nightmare for even big bicycle wheels in coarse, loose deep gravel. I think the local authorities redo each gravel road every few years. For a while those tracks are a nightmare. Then the cars and tractors beat down the gravel and it mixes with leaves and earth, and becomes solid, and the track is easily rideable again. Anyway! there you go! thanks for watching! glad you enjoyed the film!
A great Saturday evening's viewing! Always interesting and always relaxing! Looking forward to the next episode. (Wiltshire Man - spotted your comment down below...)
Hi Susanna.... love your Brompton adventures and have posted on your brilliant videos before.. this is not a bike query, but I've also downloaded some of the great background music you use .. and particularly like Houses on the Hill.. what a brilliant band... that first album is great and Ebba's vocals are just so good... I thought at first they must be mainstream (I'm an old man and very out of touch). I thought they'd be all over online but they weren't... then I tracked them down to Stockholm but there's nothing about gigs and whether they tour. I'd be grateful for some more info about them and if there's any chance of them coming over here... anyway, great to see you keeping up the good work 👍.
Hi Mickey B! oh that is nice yeh Houses on the Hill seem to be a brilliant band. I don't know anything about them actually - I found them on Epidemic Sound, which is the music library I am using. "World Goes By" is my favourite track of theirs. I love the sound and I like the lyrics too. I used that one in the film I did about riding through Germany on the way Sweden... ruclips.net/video/yKOi_pVoSok/видео.htmlsi=F5R5th4OjIooPaVg Ahhhh I just watched that film again myself as I was thinking about it! I love trying to find music that matches how I felt when I was there, and of the whole experience I had. I love that. Anyway, thank you for watching! LMK if you find out that Houses on the Hills are coming over the the UK or anything!! best wishes!
@@susannathornton thanks Susanna... World Goes By is my favourite too..but they're all so good. ... I'll keep a lookout for Houses on the Hill... Go well :)
What a great trip and what a great video taking us along! Thank you, I enjoyed the video very much. 👍👍👍 That is a cool heat sleeve (however you call it) for your cooking pot. Did you make that yourself. It seems so much more compfortable than hanging on to the handle all the time and have it cool off quite fast.
Hello! yeh you're right it is nice holding the pot in the pot warmer sleeve thing, much easier than the handle thing. And the food keeps warmer. It also slightly cuts down on fuel usage too cos I can boil the pasta for a few minutes then put that pan in the pot cosy whilst I do the sauce and the pasta sort of still cooks a bit in the cosy, then I can finish it off on the heat again. If you know what I mean. I made it out of an old insulated envelope. i got the idea from Homemade Wanderlust through hiker channel, here is the film where she made it ruclips.net/video/pYW6pcUi8zE/видео.html
That was a lovely tour, very well filmed and narrated - the story beautifully told and a delight to follow. You should be getting paid by the Swedish Tourist Board - you really made me want to go there! Thank you!
aw thanks RA! what a lovely channel you have by the way! I LOVE what you wrote there that you make the videos as a way to relive experiences, understand them better, keep happy memories. You put it super nicely and I made me think yes! that is exactly what I am doing. And yeah I feel like you that my adventures aren't "special", cos they are very often journeys I want to do anyway, just doing them slowly, by bike, enjoying the journey, looking around... And yes, setting off is always the hardest part! thank you so much for writing x
@@susannathornton Thank you! That's really kind of you. I'm so flattered that you have enjoyed my channel too! Thank you for your lovely comment, and, of course, for your lovely videos!
Thanks for this , I was in Sweden a few years ago I was wondering when a good time of year would be to return , I always cycle and wildcamp. I really enjoyed all the swimming spots and the people were very friendly and helpful.
thanks for writing Norman! oh that sounds like a great trip you had. yeah all the swimming spots in Sweden are just fantastic arent they. For swimming as well! I realise that you are not allowed to camp at some of them, like sometimes there are no camping signs. I gather that it is up to each the local authority in each area to set the rules whether it's allowed or not to camp at each spot. I think any time during the summer and autumn would be good times to go back! wild strawberries then wild raspberries then the blueberries, and apples v nice too!
You probably wouldn't want to let go of your current Brompton but there is a new gravel version, bigger wheels and things. Might make riding those tracks a bit easier. 😊
Hi Susanna - Wow, another lovely Swedish tour. It looks like a fabulous country. Not what I’d imagined at all. Looks great for cycle touring (apart from the gravel, maybe). Those roads look quiet - or is that just your clever editing? I love the architecture and also, it’s great to see a map as it helps to show us the areas you pass through so we get an idea of what they are like (at least on your route). Thanks for posting. Stay safe and well. X
oh that's interesting that it's not what you had imagined at all. Actually on the ferry to Denmark I met two very nice young German men who'd just cycled and camped through Sweden and they said Sweden was not like they'd imagined too. I didnt ask them to elaborate, and since then have wondered what their expectation had been! The roads where I am are quiet compared to UK. I filmd myself miles after leaving Nydala all alone on a kind of B road stopping and looking around at the empty road in the silent forest saying oh my god it is so quiet havent seen a single car since I left the monastery. They have implemented a thing though called "2+1 roads" though, which I had not encountered anywhere else in the world, a kind of semi dual carriageway with barriers, which mean that as a cyclist you intermittently find yourself pinned in a single lane riding on a tiny margin alongside fast traffic that due to the barriers has no space to do a safe pass. I found those extremely frightening and dangerous. Pretty much no go for cycling. So there are awful! But otherwise yeh, lovely! Anyway! there you go! Hope you and yours are well! thank you for writing!
@@susannathornton I’m glad it was really that quiet. I hate main roads nowadays. Just too many cars. Even when driving one! I’ve watched a channel called Roaming wild Rosie - the young lady who is Rosie is renovating a cabin in Sweden and she recently went on a bike tour of her part of the country. One day I will visit there for sure. We have an elderly poet friend who lives in Stockholm. (She used to be friends with Tove Jannson of Moomin fame, and through her, my wife and her sister had a bit of a correspondence with Tove and we have a letter with some drawings on it. QUite a thing! There have been some great nordic artists too. Mind you, the landscape is fantastic so I can really see the attraction. All well here but busy. Take care X
@@jellyartist Oh sounds really friendly and interesting to meet up with an old friend, who is a poet, and was a friend of Tove Jansson. Just reading up on Tove Jansson a bit. Wow I only really knew the Moomin side of things, but so many other interesting aspects to her life actually. I had no idea about her paintings and political cartoons and all sorts. Yeh, quite a thing that you have that letter!
@ Yes, My wife’s sister has a couple more letters from Tove. There is an interesting movie about her too. My daughter said she may be staying in Sweden over the Christmas break!
Nice video going through Småland, where I was born and grew up ! You either missed or left out a thing about Nydala abbey though. The Nydala abbey blood bath in 1521 where the danish king had the abbot and monks killed!
Hi Lars! thanks for writing! oh yeah I read about that. Poor things. Awful story. Yeah as you say I decided to leave it all out, but I did find the whole 1500s history of Nydala Monastery really interesting, eg how it got involved in the Dacke rebellion against Gustav Vasa’s rule. What Gustav Vasa did, taking over the monasteries, seems similar to what Henry VIII did in England. It is interesting! Wish I knew more but yeh nice anyway to read bits and bobs and think about it and share stories! Nydala as it is today was much smaller than I expected actually. I was expecting something like Fountains Abbey in England. It was super interesting to go there
Hi Suzanna, thank you for your Brompton Cycle ride across southern Sweden, very enjoyable. I have a question: do you ever wear a cycling helmet at all? Keep cycling and keep producing lovely pics.
you should use Randonneur Stockholms routes through Jönköping, LePre Stanca, CK Distans or plot the route with RideWithGps, Kamoot.. It are very fine roads from Jönköping to Göteborg.
Hi Olle! thanks for watching and writing with suggestions! I just looked up Le Pre Stanca and CK distans, interesting! always good to see what people are doing. I looked at Jönköping again, just now and heading west I guess the E26 that I was using is kind of the only more direct route option, as otherwise you do have to do a much longer route south or north around the Dummemosse area. About apps do you prefer Ridewithgps and Komoot to Bikemaps? I have used Komoot and thought for planning it was v similar to Bikemaps, but I didn't like Komoot base map which is their own. Maybe that was cos I was using the free version of Komoot? So I prefer Bikemaps cos they have OpenStreetMap as a base map option, which I like. I also like Lantmäteriets My Map. And it is so brilliant that it is free (the equivalent in UK Ordnance Survey mapping is also fab, but not free). Anyway! thanks for watching!
@@susannathornton I use the ridewiththeGPS, I do my planning my routes with this app. And sometimes I downloaded my route to my Garmin 1030, or to my iPhone, but not always. HCK, their Randonneur group have a lot of routes in Västra Götaland. I have used RidewithGps since 2013, and they have different maps, OSM Cycle paths for example. I live in sydvästra Småland, but I am from Uppsala. Veloform bike shop in Göteborg is worth a visit for you, he sells Brompton bikes and more stuff. I use chargers from my Dynamohube to charge my battery bank.
Thanks Finn! yes it is simply wonderful that cemeteries have taps in Denmark and often in Sweden. I wonder if the brown water I found at that tap in the cemetery in the film was actually drinkable in fact? But I was very grateful for the amazing toilet that I then found at that church.
@@susannathornton I could imagine that the tap hadn't been used for a while, and that may be why? Eventually let it run for some time, to see if the water then becomes more clear? By that schools often have a drinking device in the yard, which may be useable during passing, but a little more problematic if wanting to fill a bottle. Finn
@@susannathornton Brown water may have because it wasn't used for a time, so that letting it run for some time would give a clean version? By that I have left my old Trangia in my former house and now have a new combined narrow top with a can and burner below, for minor jobs. It is fast in heating and very compact for transport, as a unit. And you are able to buy a foldable solar panel for charging a phone and minor batteries. Finn. Denmark
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Hi Finn! oh that is interesting about your new small stove, more compact. Yeah I know I am carrying quite a lot, two pans and frying pan and kettle, a whole kitchen basically haha. I have a Trangia Mini actually, which is obviously much more compact, which my nephew gave me, a very cool nice present. But I have only used it on day rides for a bit of fun so far. About solar panels, yes I bought a folding solar panel a couple of years ago and I do sometimes use it when out, especially in summer when the sun is up for longer
Susanna, you are so nice and i love you and your journeys, but , please, you CAN'T joint spaghetti and a tin of sardins thinking to eat an italian food... 😵 did you joint a sort of parmesan too? Ever, ever cheese and fish together!😃😃😃

Really enjoyed that video. I lived in Småland for 16 years but now I have moved back to Göteborg 😍 I actually live quite close to the Strama Line terminal.
Stena Line terminal 😂
glad you enjoyed it punkhiker! oh I probably rode right past your place! very nice there. I had a great dagens lunch at Seaside in the ferry terminal with a view of the ferries and things
That cooking looks amazing as does the country. The items laid on coffins are fascinating.
Aw thanks Tony. Yeh those little homemade decorations and the handwritten messages, all faded like that, in that quiet old place. Really moving
like your video, your travelling style, and the music that you put behind......really enjoyable.
aw thanks Andy, glad you like the films, esp the music! I love trying to find tracks that kind of fit how I feel, it's really enjoyable for me too
Oooh! Spoilt us with another video so soon 😎 And enjoying more interesting food too😂
Always lovely to see you having another adventure.
Aw thanks Lizzie! happy weekend! glad you enjoyed the film!
That is a cool heat sleeve (however you call it) for your cooking pot.
@@susannathornton Thank you very much for your detailed answere! I will try it myself.
Looking forward to watch your adventures in the future. 🙂
Nice to see you again! Was just thinking about you today and wondering if we’d hear from you soon. Absolutely love your videos! 😊
Hello Denice! thanks for watching! 😎
Love your cycling videos, especially from europe. 👍🏻
Another excellent video
Wow,what a struggle! hope you made it home safely.
lovely to hear from you and watch another inspiring adventure. I wonder how I think a question as I am watching and the next minute you answer it !
Hello Jo! oh that is a nice thing to say! glad you enjoyed it!
Hope you filmed your trip down Jylland. Good video, BTW.
Hi Gert! yes I did, beautiful, lots of awesome camping spots... Editing it now! thanks for watching!
@@susannathornton Looking forward to it.
Clervaux now found in Luxembourg. A monastery was re-established in the early 20th century. I've been there...well worth visiting
What do you think of the new G-line and would you think of getting one in the future?
you should use Randonneur Stockholms routes through Jönköping, LePre Stanca, CK Distans or plot the route with RideWithGps, Kamoot..
Susanna, you are one tough lady. I love your bike trips. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures. Keep it up!
As a former Long Distance walker, 100km/24 hours, I know that Cemeteries normally offer a tap for water, when passing. Finn. Denmark
Oh dear!! sorry to upset you like that!!! haha thanks for the comment. Actually I got that recipe here - www.trail.recipes/recipes/sardine-pasta-with-crunchy-garlic-breadcrumbs/ and actuall the whole Trail Food website is brilliant, loads of great ideas and great photography too. And maybe one day I should ride to Italy and come try some of the real thing😋
Could you tell me about that wee cooker?
Amazing lovely music what is the first song please
Thanks Terry! It is Open Road, by Chester Malone. I love it. I should put music details in the video description actually, thanks for reminding me, I forgot!
