I swear this man can sound like three sometimes. I have never seen him play, would probably give my right foot... but for now I will have to continue to admire this amazing talent from afar. Been a fan forever and I don't see that changing any time soon! ;c)
I saw him in 2002 in Minnesota at a very small auditorium. I could not believe the sound he got from his guitars; it was unbelievably beautiful. He looked like he wasn't even trying hard to play the set, he was just that good and it was that easy for him.
So sad that age has taken its toll on him. Last time he was here in concert, I didn't go. This is the Leo Kottke that I remember: machine gun fast yet melodic with no accompaniment needed.
Does anyone have a link to a transcription of this? I was going to order it from the States (I'm in the UK) and the website didn't do downloads - and they were going to charge me more for the shipping than it cost for the piece itself! :-( Thanks if anyone can help.. :-)
what's heartbreaking - for a guitarist at least - is the economy of the guy's technique; his hands seem to be hardly moving, yet what's coming out of the instrument is unbelievable. beautiful. and yeah. GOOD farts.
I have seen both on consecutive nights and their shows are so different. Tommy has techniques that allow him to play all styles. Leos technique is tied to his characteristic style. Go to a Tommy concert and you get the feeling that you are seeing a century of guitar music summed up and concentrated into one fast flowing performance. Leo has an extremely unique musical voice.. his technique lacks the versatility and dexterity of Tommy's but he is unique and magically different less flash..
Great as usual. But I sure don't like how Olson's sound, especially the cedar topped ones. I am glad he only used it for a couple of years. But he tends to care more about necks than anything else. And he could make a plastic banjo sound great.
I´ve just discovered Leo Kottke. I need to bye all your CD´s ! you´re so great. Cheers from the Dominican Republic
Wow. Leo is the man. SO many layers! Sounds like he is in a guitar duel against one other, at times, two.
Thanks for posting! Can't get enough video of Leo!

I have seen him live for the past 6 years. He is a truly amazing and talented musician and entertainer. He inspires me to be a better guitar player.
that's just AWESOME! i listen to this so many times (first one).. but to see him playing is just so much more impressive.
Leo is a national treasure! -The Best🎸

I would not care to make comparisons. Leo is just unique!
Oddball is the most amazing thing I've heard...ever?

God this guy is incredible. He was doing this stuff long before Andy McKee came around.
so so good!
Great Leo session
I loved it.
I think that Oddball is one of the most creative and crazy compositions of Leo Kottke.
I'd like to find out it with a tablature.
great Leo.
pretty cool, like his humor too. thanks

Simply the best.
Leo has quite the fantastic style.
Amen!

but also experience is a degree ...
eggtooth shreds
Mr Leo Kottke could put Tommy Emmanuel in his back pocket as a dead weight, tie one arm behind his back and still sound good!
Al Franken loves you Leo

Agreed. Jim Olson's guitars are among the best of the best.

Should be a rule that only guitar players can sit so close so we can all do the "we're not worthy" bow.
Funny how much he resembles Doc Watson here

For my money Leo's right hand technique is unmatched by anyone, even Tommy
