- Getting a noise complaint can really cause you some trouble if you're not careful! In this video I share a few tricks to keeping your sound in your room and the cops out!
I really believe the first action of any audiophile or home theater fan must be acoustic insulation. Our hobby should never disturb others.
One of the Best Ideas of SoundProofing is "SoundProof Curtains" it actually Block outside Noise coming from Windows. Check Here: livesoundproof.com/best-soundproof-curtains/
Or just buy a big house, I think sound proofing to studio degree limits audio potential. Buy big house, or use headphones.
@@LauraBrown-hg2ry SPAM... this crap doesn't do anything.
I don’t agree. If it’s non quiet hours, not my problem if you can hear it or not. I just tell people to get noise cancelling headphones before I close the door then turn it up even more. I’ve certainly used my hobby as a bargaining chip for food before.
No such thing as acoustic insulation lmao
I wish that apartment complexes would soundproof their places so these issues would not happen? One thing is, why would your neighbor have your mom's email, to begin with?
Fr though I hate this shit I get anxiety when my mom screams
@@unknownunreleased300 someone is boneing ya mama?
Best way to avoid noise complaints, use isolation pads and keep the bass down. Foam panels wont make a big difference to neighbors. You cant sound proof or sound dampen an apartment or a home without tearing into the wall AND basically rebuilding the room. Low Frequency Containment features actually take away the details of the bass, but it is the only option that will keep your neighbors happier other than just keeping the volume down. If you want a room that contains sound, have your room built for that. Not cheap though :)
Hey bro
I’m trying to find a way to sound proof a college dorm room
Mainly for playing music and singing
But I don’t wanna disturb the ppl livin in the next dorms
Do you think foam panels would work?
@@Zizotron you cant sound proof a room that way. You’d need to have a room built within the room. You can treat the room with decorative sound panels though.
@@JayeBass alright thanks bro
Isolatioj pads dont block noise from coming out lmao people are so dumb
How the heck does your neighbor get your mother's email address?
I liked the email he wrote, it was courteous and attempted to not get you into any trouble with bylaw or the landlord (which you want to avoid any complaints over time with a landlord). He had also made an attempt to reach you, and appeared to feel intentionally ignored. Wait until you’re older, his approach was very respectful and simply aimed to get the message to you.
He lives across the hall. He can just talk to me in person
@@Kpaceguy I didnt know he could just walk into your appartment and talk to you. I was under the impression that doors exist.
@informant09 right and the ability to knock exists too. But we see each other outside of the apartment almost everyday.
Worst feeling ever. Now you will always have it in the back of your mind. Am I too loud.
I have 2 svs ultra towers paired with a cheap Klipsch 12” sub(around 450 Watts). I’m bi amping the towers with a Parasound hca-1206(270watts or more per tower).
I thought since I live in Florida and house are made of an outer shell of concrete my neighbors will not hear me. I was wrong my neighbor that lives 20’ away couldn’t sleep. He was really nice the next day about it.
Just because of that incident, I haven’t pulled the trigger on the Svs pb16.
It sucks man it really does!
At least he wrote a polite respectful letter without escalating it and causing unneeded issues
I usually watch movies very late at night, mostly around midnight or so. I find the compression settings to work very well for my late watching needs. If I'm watching movies in the day or when I'm home alone and I wouldn't disturb others then I turn off the compression settings.
What's compression settings on a tv?
@@CarmellaNYC the compression settings are in the reciever and not the TV.
Here in the UK, I paid £4 for 2 inch high density foam £1 for a slab of concrete sprayed them black and 'wallah' job done (in my mind anyway lol) but I still get the odd complaint only when I use subwoofers with my music! maybe it's because nearly all of our houses, flats, (apartments) are made with bricks & stone even our interior walls are masonry!
Luckily for me!
I’m currently dealing with upstairs neighbors who play really loud bass that shakes the apartment. If someone likes loud sounds, why not play it loud with headphones? Nobody wants to hear other people’s music when they’re trying to rest or sleep. Thanks for sharing these great tips!
It's a different experience when you have good speakers nothing beats them but we understand what you mean.
Go show them this video and let them slowly stop Bass bleed
Lol 🤣
its because when you use headphones u hear the music in ur ears it its fun but with speakers u can feel the music in your body u can hear it all around ur room its alot better
So agree
Just a few days ago I was alone in the house, and I turned up my jams with the new Klipsch R-112SW. I went outside to get the mail, and I could actually hear the REALLY deep part of the bass drops from a distance. Luckily it wasn't too loud, just very noticeable compared to the 8" Sony and my neighbors are quite a distance separated so at the levels I listen to, I'm not too concerned with complaints. In fact, I hear some bass from their homes too sometimes so most likely they're cool with it lol
I'm glad I don't have to worry about bothering my neighbor.
Although I seem to listen quiet enough for most of the sound to hardly leave my room, let alone the house to the neighbors.
What a decent man he is. Did not want to get you in trouble with the cops and instead contacted your mom as he believe you will become confrontational. He is very nice man, I hope you appreciate that.
No lol he could of just knocked on my door
@@Kpaceguywhy should he? He doesn't owe you that courtesy. You're the entitled one disturbing all your surrounding properties selfishly thinking that your enjoyment of bass heavy music or bass heavy film nights should prioritise over everyone else's peace and quiet. Ever think that as an older man he deserves abit of peace?
Don't be so entitled and immature.
The older gentleman handled this situation the right way. I in the past have dealt with a noise issue in the way you say he should have. I now live in a house so my apartment days are long gone. But when I did I knocked on the guys door. Asked him to turn his bass down, he attempted to get in my face and ask me "what are you gonna do to stop me" anyway, one thing lead to another and it got physical, he came off worse then proceeded to phone the police and have me done for assault because he had his ass kicked and couldn't handle the dent I just made to his ego....you have a very understanding neighbour considering how selfish you're being. Don't take him for granted
I’m here because my neighbor complained when it was not even quiet time. I do watch for time to time pretty loud movies but during the day, before 10pm. At 10pm, I turn it down or off depending on what I’m watching.
since this video, i've had zero complaints
I wish my upstairs neighbor was that courteous. They don’t care what time it is.
quiet times mean nothing when you work evenings or nights.
i understand being a musician, i plan on moving out soon myself and that is also a concern of mine, but when i was in school and still living with *both* parents in an apartment, we literally got a noise complaint while eating subway and watching the weather on the tv. even the police were baffled.
They were out to get you
@@Kpaceguy they really were. when we moved out, someone that knew the cows upstairs immediately took our place. kinda SUS if you ask me. I am curious though, I didn't fully watch this video, tho I might, but I saw something in a different video I watched about this thing called green glue. know anything about it?
@@thefourthdymensionmusic nope never heard of it
@@Kpaceguy apparently, it's this stuff that absorbs sound and turns it into heat. idk how hot it's supposed to get, or how much there's supposed to be to make a significant difference, but my idea was just make a bunch of panels that go together, that I can just stick to and remove from the wall, and have it be a layer of cardboard, green glue, then more cardboard, and then an acoustic panel on top.
I just got my 1st noise complaint. So I bought a 12x15 foam pad along with 12x15 rug. I will admit I have dual r12sw klipsch subs 🤣 & the towers along with 4 atmos 🤣. So now I turned down subs. But all this motivated me long term to BUY MY OWN HOUSE !!!
💯 facts
Now days if you can’t afford a house you surely can rent one for the price you pay for rent on many apartments. And then you can turn it up with very little complaints. But there’s always one neighbor who lives to complain.

Nah the music is 440Hz its a right thing to complain
Do not expect your house neighborhood to like you any better with that attitude
You should invite him to watch the game in your setup next time 😂
here i am looking for sound-proofing videos cause i almost got a noise complaint too for raging mid-day...
😂 I’m amazed that you’ve gotten this far without one. You can tell your neighbor leaves bad yelp reviews. How in the world did he get your mothers email in the first place?
I agree! Been here just about 10 months!
He's probably subscribed up for those records check background sites and searched his name and found all his relations then his mother email probably showed up and maybe a phone number. That's what middle aged ppl do
Been living in a flat for 10 years my neighbour made a noise complaint, im not even that bad, he has a dog that even barks at midnight. Council meeting me this week 🤢

@@paulflint6254that sucks :( how did it go?
Bro i just moved in in a new place, and this dude next to us literally stays up till 2am amd talks loud and screams with his wife and kids, and the one time i played league and something happened i started laughing a tiny bit louder and he just started banging on the wall and it wasnt even 9pm yet. And yesterday he came up to me in the hallway and said u guys a bit loud at night tho. All i said was like bro what can i do with that info it happened only once like tf? So i just said oh im so sorry for that i was gonna give u a chocolate bcz i felt bad, and just went in and closed the door. Like okay i feel bad that i was a bit louder, but hes loud till 2am man, every night, do whats the problem if im loud once in my life and that i laughed for like 2 mins before the bedtime.
is annoying af when your neighbour has a party every weekend playing loud music from 5pm to 2 in the morning … what do you do then
The cops 👮♂️
Thanks. My music is the issue but your explanation helped me figure out how to hopefully use my good speakers again without being sued by my grouchy neighbor 🎶 🎵
Please I beg you not to be a noisy neighbor who turns up the surround sound and makes everyone else’s walls shake. It is so stressful and miserable to have to live near a noisy person. We were forced out of our townhouse that we lived in for 20 because of a rude noise creating neighbor. Please please respect your neighbors it’s not funny at all. I don’t think it’s funny one bit. It’s cruel.
You don't need to beg. I'm not a noisy neighbor and each of my three neighbors have never said a thing to me since the making of this video
@@Kpaceguy That’s good, I just feel bad because I lived next door to this guy he was so loud banging the door and stomping that we had to move. Thanks for replying . 😊

Umm we payin rent we have the right to make noise until midnight
Kathleen, relax. He's trying his best.
i’ve got no idea if my neighbours can hear my speakers i never have them past a certain point i’ve never had a complaint. But when i take a video of my speakers it doesn’t sound loud on my phone so it makes me wanna turn it up but i feel like it would be too loud 🤷🏼♂️
i've gotten like 6 noise complaints in the past month.
That's not good lol

I just got my second one actually. I just moved in to my own apartment and unfortunately the walls are thin and I didn't know that I have a neighbor next to my bedroom wall half way. She called the houselady who delas with legal and non legal house building stuff and she told me this is my last warning. . I only had 2 people in my bedroom drinking and laughing but I guess my apartment's soundblocking is shit so here I am trying to figure out how to / where to do my soundproofing in wich room to not bother that one person. The funny thing is that everyone is fucking loud in the building all night long but me as a nice person never gave a shit and I sleep like a baby with earplugs on me. Sometimes people are vacuuming, other times like now the upstairs neighbor has a party going on or a music session , it's pretty loud. My plan is to go upstairs andto my side neighbor and give them my number in case Im loud or anything so they can call me . Im also trying to figure out where their bedroom is upstairs so I would soundproof a room where no one is sleeping at upstairs but how do u go up to a neighbor and tell them , hello, Im trying to soundproof a room so that I can have friends over and I was wondering where your bedroom is so I would know wich areas I should ignore :D
Good luck lol sometimes people just have to realize you're in an apartment, you're going to hear stuff!
@@Kpaceguy No! There are lease rules you must adhere that allows everyone the right to quiet enjoyment. Be considerate of others! No excuses!

Yeah keep that db read out -12 anyway man. If you can't hear your own voice, it's to loud. Respect your neighbor's
How does he have your moms email?
That's EXACTLY what we were wondering?!
Your Mum's Email Bro..????
🤯..
You need to investigate that.. for SURE..
This man has got your moms email thats creepy especially if you don't know why or how
I would give him a notice about that
And one last thing you are a grown man he should not be emailing your mom not cool
Nah he nice they called the office on me instantly and I was making beats during the day
great vibes on this video holy shit, thanks for the pointers
I appreciate it

Following the GOLDEN RULE of QUIET 🤐 TIME between 10p.m. and 10 a.m. will save you ALOT of headaches 💯
Just listen on headphones at night
I got one from my landlord @ 8am. He said he could hear it 2 floors up. 🤪🤪🤪
thanks bro you explained this really good
I appreciate it
I just seen this video and I had home theaters as long as you been alive. I was in another complex and never had one for over 20 years. Soon as I came in the one I am in now I have 3. I did not have my system hook up but the third came after I hook my SVS sub woofer up. I had the police called on me. So I had to unhook the subwoofer. I love that subwoofer. So at 66 I am looking for a house and I think I found one
Hope you got your house! I would love the privacy and freedom 😊
Hi.
A tip, not pretty, but I have curtains from wall to wall, don't see the crap.
But, here is the tip:
Eggcartons.
I have 170 cartons stacked in layers of 4(some air inbetween layers), on the walls around the fronts and the sub. This keeps the basspreasure inn my room, and I aqtually had to turn the sub down 6db to have the same preasure in my room. One of my kids has his bedroom beside my cinema, and now there is almost no sound leaking into his room.
This is cheap, and works very well. The sound is better in my room after the cartoons. 😊
id like to see what that looks like , anyway you can get a pic to me ?
@@LarryGivens
Hi Larry😊
I have not figured out how to put pics in the comment, but I will see what I can do. Btw, I now have about 700 cartons. They are in layers of 4 or 5 (behind towers and subs). Works like a charm.
Eyyy it's another guy with fluances! I got the ai40, I looove them but man they got SO MUCH BASS. I'm moving soon from the country to the city and I feel like most likely I would get a noise complaint with these eventually. I might just have to sell these 😭 if I can't find effective ways to lower the bass.ill look into what you said in the video and also a software equalizer to lower bassy sounds.
Hey man I love your channel, I’ve been making music for 6 years I moved into an apartment complex & I have this old woman lives downstairs from I got a noise complaint for the same reason I’ll have my bass to loud or recording session were the artist are loud, I recently bought some cheap soundproof foams, I set the soundproof were my studio is but for some reason I feel like I’m still able to get heard is there any tips you could give me, I’ll appreciate it thank you! ❤️
Here’s a tip - You are a rude asshole. If you’re playing music that loud you have no business being in an apartment. Have some compass for your elderly neighbor. I am praying for her right now and shame on you!
@@kathleenh3695 stay triggered lul. That person was looking to lower their sound anyway....
You may as well use the low frequency containment feature of your AVR while you look for somewhere else to live now. They guy is always going to be listening for you now, and any excuse he gets hel be back on to mummy. It’s the only reason why I don’t mind renting. Can move pretty much whenever, I’m in a lucky place now though. 😀😀👍🏻👍🏻
I had the neighbor call the police one night around 930pm. I was testing my new SVS sound path feet on my DT pro1000 subs. Although I was within the noise ordinance it sucks because I don't enjoy my system as much because of my neighbor who's house sits 18' from mine. So much for eventually wanting SVS subs now...lol
Wow lol
Elevate your subs off the floor. I went to Home Depot, bought their 4', 1.5" thick Birch butcher block counter top and cut to size. Ran over to plumbing and bought 4" pipe nipple, 3/4" for the 8 legs. I used 16 floor flanges, 3/4" to attach the legs to the slabs and the others for the feet. I went over to hardware and grabbed a bag of 3" furniture sliders/floor protectors. Now, you feel/hear the subs, not the house. Elevating them did make a huge difference.
I agree, elevate your subs. I live in a condo, have an svs sb12 nsd sub with the sound isolation feet. When my department moved offices I noticed a 16x16" 6 inch high wooden box my work mate had her printer on. I asked if she needed, said I could have it. I now sit my sub on top of it. The feet made a difference, and the 6" height made a bigger difference. I even turned up the gain on the sub. Bass is super clean and deep with no vibrations.
Yes if you elevate them it helps heaps! My upstairs neighbours used to have their subs on the floor and it would keep us up during the night. We talked to them about it and they since moved them off the floor we haven’t had any noice issues with them since

You need to be more considerate and respectful towards neighbors. The world does not revolve around YOU. People do not want to hear bass blasting through their walls.
I've been here for 3 years and haven't had a single issue. It's an apartment. Every now and then you're going to be too loud it happens. Please try not to be my parent in my comment section
@@Kpaceguy No, I'm just making a comment. Sounds like you may have an issue with authority. I've noticed that most young people today do not give a S about anyone else but themselves. Do they feel empowered or more macho by loud music?... probably has a lot to do with their own insecurities. Police need to enforce noise complaints more seriously... hitting people in the wallet is the only way to make them stop.
@@JP5466 I'm 27. While I agree with your overall thoughts, I don't have this problem specifically. Or I wouldn't still be living here. @@JP5466 dawg people have always liked loud music. What are you talking about. That shits been around forever. It's only because bass heavy music has become more of a thing.
