  • Aussie Garage is heading to see Jim at Jim's Resto Mods for a Aussie Garage Interview about his workshop and his Muscle Car -EH Holden Premier with a 308 V8 Engine. Jim has restored, built and customised a number of vehicles along the way and has more than one project of the go at present.
Let’s start with his 1964 EH Holden Premier that he first saw advertised on marketplace in NSW about five years ago and it had been in the shed for about 12 years. Jim decided to purchase the EH which was a blue colour back then and was covered in dust. The EH Holden was an ex-show car with a 179 and 5 speed transmission.
Jim has now painted the EH in Chrysler Silver colour with Ivory roof, which he paints all his early Holden's with an Ivory Roof. The Rust on the EH Holden was mainly on left hand side of the vehicle as it was exposed to the elements for the 12 years before the restoration and the rear guards were already flared, however, Jim smoothed out the flared guards to make it look more original to the vehicle. Its good for the 8.5" Rear wheels through as he prefers not to tub the rear wheels on his restorations. He put Street Pro Mag Wheels on all his resto mod cars and the EH was no exemption.
The EH Holden Premier had all the Premier features when he got the car, which made it easy to restore with purchase more of these parts, furthermore, the previous owner had some Nascar part on it as well, but Jim removed a few of these. The ex show car had a 9" diff on the 179 engine, which Jim Swap out for a HSV Shortened diff and enlarged the tunnel to fit a bigger gearbox. All the Chrome was reconditioned in Perth with a Chrome expert, but unfortunately him is no longer with us and will be sadly missed in Perth.
The Engine is a 308 Holden Engine that is bored out 30 thousand, monster cam, high compression pistons, big valve heads, custom extractors that he made and 650 Holley Brawler Carby. Its has HSV brakes all round from a VS Commodore, Turbo 350 Gearbox with shift kit and hi stall to maintain the engine performance. Jim also custom makes his collapsible steering column for all his cars and the EH has the original honeypot but then adds in modern parts to suit his needs. The Engine Bay has been rewired and replumbed to make it clean and tidy. He also added a Custom Reverse Cowl Scoop on the EH that is not there just for good looks but it functions like the Ramjet systems on the Mustangs and the XC Falcons. To keep it cool all the time.
As you see Jim has a massive passion for Holdens and loves restoring these vehicles for everyone to enjoy. The EH Holden Premier is his pride and joy. Aussie Garage will be also following all Jim's Resto Mods projects and we keep you updated all the time with more. Including his FJ Holdens and LJ Torana Concourse Project.

Big cam is where alot of the fuel is going out the exhaust all they want to do is rev. I built a mild cam 355ci years in a Torana and was great on fuel and tonnes of power.

@@AussieGarage that is a pretty reasonable sized cam for a 308, hence it sounds grumpy. 👍
