Mary, you are so wise and I love how you take the time to really explain this stuff in depth. Thank you for all you do! I’ve been learning from you for a couple of years now. You’ve taught me so much!
I just prepped a kamut sourdough earlier today to be baked tomorrow. I experimented with Einkorn sourdough a few weeks ago and it was quite lovely. I might tried Emmer sourdough soon.
Dear Sister, You are doing a great presentation of important material. Your warm and sweet manner of delivery is rare these days. And it is much appreciated by this new subscriber. Keep up the good work! I thank you for your efforts. I am definitely a new subscriber to your channel.
Hi Mary!! Thank you for this. I just bought two 1kg Organic Kamut flour bags as it was discounted to 80 pence. Can't wait to try it!! This video is awesome!!!! Best wishes!!
Thank you, Mary. I am gluten intolerant and have been trying to find info on alternative flours. The diploid, etc. info was very helpful. I can have einkorn occasionally and now I know more about what might be more possible for my diet. God bless you!
Look up the Food Nanny on Instagram or you tube. Mother daughter team they cook with Kamut and say you won’t experience that sensitivity with Kamut. They sell it and have wonderful cookbooks.
I'm getting more and more interested in these ancient grains. Kamut sounds like a wonderful grain for us to try. I have had some pretty good luck with finding whole grains on Amazon lately.
I’m very concerned about wheat farmers in the USA spraying wheat, corn, rye, sorghum, barley etc with “ Glyphosate “..the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup Herbicide. It is not only sprayed for weed control, but as a desiccant to kill the wheat plant so it will dry earlier for a higher yield. I’ve recently thrown out everything that contained wheat that was not “USDA-Certified” ( ie no use of herbicides). Two sources of my whole grains now come from “Bluebird Grain Farms” and “ Palouse” ...both family owned operations here in Washington State....they do not use glyphosate or any other pesticides/herbicides. I’ve begun milling my own flour as well, which retains all the nutrients that will go right into your baked goods. The nightmare glyphosate has caused us can be reversed ...right in our kitchens.
Just hearing about Kamut. I’m supposing it’s not Keto, but still high protein fiber and many good minerals! So might be a better option on the occasion. ❤
I have made several times a delicious recipe for spelt muffins with shredded apple and golden raisins. I’m looking forward to experimenting with kamut and einkorn.

"Scientists believe" is outdated terminology. You could instead use "the latest science available to me shows".

I would like to try Einkorn but in the health food stores that I checked so far I can't find it. So, if I can't find it in the any other stores I will have to order it online. I did see Emmer being sold at one of the stores though. For those of you who are Canadian there are farmers in Saskatchewan who grow Einkorn.
also, here is the emmer from the same place: www.azurestandard.com/shop/search/emmer It is interesting to note Azure has one of only a handful of 'uni fine' flour mills, they yield extra fine flours and yet highest nutrition because of this unique process.
Thank you Mary for another great video, I'm learning o lot from you❤one question what are the modern wheats you keep saying it is good to mix with kamut. ..im new in this how do you call modern wheats if i like to buy
Hi Mary, Can you do a video on how to make sourdough using only kamut? Can you sift some kamut to create an AP kamut than use whole grain kamut turned into flour? So use the 2 types of kamut for a sourdough, do you think that could work, I’m just not sure on the different ratio of flours, ie, AP kamut with whole grain kamut
I buy kumut grass powder by Naví. It’s bright green and I sprinkle in salads and smoothies as part of my Keto. Any thoughts nutrition-wise using this as opposed to the grain?
Mary do you know if organic kamut or wheat berries are treated w chemicals for storage purposes? I can't find that info anywhere. I bought 50 lbs bag and in 6 months not 1 bug is in it.
You should read the book Grain by Grain by Bob Quinn…. He is basically the one that brought it back. It can’t be called kamut if it’s not organic. This book is on hoopla if you want to listen to it. I’ve listened to it at least twice maybe three times! It’s so good.
Thanks for this info I'm just discovering this grain tho... Re: Smoothie Could i grind the seed to powder form & add it to my other protein powders to make my smoothie OR...it has to be cooked first????
@maka…no it doesn’t have any other things in it. It’s a type of wheat. I buy the Kamut ‘berries’ at my favorite coop. It’s almost 2x the price of spelt ‘berries’. It’s a beautiful golden wheat with a mild flavor. I grind it in my KoMo grain mill and bake in bread. Sometimes I combine it with spelt flour, and I often add it to other baked goods, like biscuits, cookies, pie crusts, even cake! For biscuits, etc, I substitute only about 25% whole grain flour. I believe it enhances the flavor. If you don’t have a grinder, you can cook wheat and all whole grains just like rice - it takes longer. Or, - you can try sprouting it & add to breads.
