Heading out to the Laugavegur and Fimmvorduhals trails in Iceland this week. I did the TMB a couple of years ago and it was great. Happy trails Darwin!!
I hope to do a lot of section hiking! My brother and i wil walk 5 days on the Heidschnuckenweg in Northern Germany. And we want to walk further on the dutch long distance trails; Pieterpad and Coastal path
Not to pigeonhole you, but you are missed. I’m glad you are getting back out there. Thanks for being a teacher to so many through your videos and podcasts.
Man you are definitely the GOAT. So much talent with the camera. It’s always a pleasure to watch you talk. I don’t know what type of education you had but whatever you had was high standards and made someone unique.
I was fortunate to do the Tour du Mont Blanc in 2017. You are going to love it. The local food alone is worth the visit. Make sure to stop at the local farms on trail that open up during the day to serve food for trekkers. Have a great time Darwin.
It is awesome to see ya looking as hearty & hale as you come across in your videos as of late. You definitely present as being a more balanced and authentic "Darwin." My guess is that it's not merely characteur. Happy trails!
Hi. Sorry for stating the obvious but just in case case, the European adapter at 5:55 won't work on the Swiss part of the tour. I keep seeing European and international tourists going to Switzerland and finding the hard way that they have to search for a (pricey if bought in Switzerland) swiss adapter for the SN 441011:2019 plug used here.
In the video he says he is leaving his trekking pole behind AND picking up one once he is there. He briefly mentions that going sans pole allows him to not check his pack and instead his kit is carry-on. I assume it is also why he is not taking a knife.
My husband, mom, and I are attempting the Long Trail this August. I've followed you for years and you've been a huge inspiration in picking gear and packing everything.
@@1519Spring We're going to give it closer to 4 weeks. Hoping that with lower mileage days we have a better chance of finishing. And John's record smashed the previous one in my opinion. I had just watched the documentary on Ben and his FKT.
If you're new on this channel you have to know that it is one of the top channels on RUclips. Darwin is 100% honest and he talks from experience. Not like many RUclipsrs out there, and not like most staff working at retailers. You might be surprised by the last statement but most staff don't spend that much time in the outdoors, if any at all. So they don't talk from experience. One great example is with that girl Miranda on RUclips. She's using the fact she worked at REI for 12 years to get attention and trust, but just made a video where she said using an UL umbrella is not good when it....rains. According to her, it's only good under the sun. Yep, I know, incredible. Also, her videos are sponsored, so she doesn't bring all the facts and the best options. It's just an "advertising channel" like so many others out there. Darwin, thanks for your videos buddy and I'm glad that you didn't retire fully from RUclips ;) the only thing missing for you to become the best RUclipsr and Hiker of all time is to.... come hike in Canada! lol Cheers
I did the Haute Route around 20 years ago which follows the Tour De Mont Blanc for 2-3 days. My suggestion to you is to bring a set of town clothes. You are going to be staying in alpine huts and gites along the way, so you get to shower often. Wear your hiking clothes during the day. Switch into your town clothes at night when you are in the small villages and going out to eat.
I plan on flying over with another bag for my "Touristy Travels" before & after the hike. I might throw a town shirt in there last minute. Check out my previous video about flying with gear, as I have my other set-up in it. 🤙
In Genève airport (if you fly there) they have lockers at the airport. I changed clothes after landing into a hiking set, then put my travel clothes in a locker. For the nights I had a spare night merino shirt and lightweight tights. After the half TMB (courmayeur to Chamonix) I went to the swimming pool in Chamonix for a shower, they have a different ticket just for a shower after TMB, then in my night clothes back to the airport.
Welcome back! My husband and I each carry the gossamer gear 1/8. I like it, but find it a bit bulky for packing. I started folding it and putting it between the main compartment of the pack and the brain.
Thanks a million, was a pleasure to watch your new great gear video. The highlight for me was when you introduced your Evolve sun hoodie...."With Zipper"....!!!! I am at this moment having a seamstress modify my old one with this feature......I love the sun hoodie but once im hiking I just roast......Im heading over to Evolve to check yours out.....very excited......Looking forward to following your 2023 adventures....!!!!!
Wow! I thought I read it wrong... but there you are! awesome! I really enjoyed your past videos and am excited to see more. I still watch the grand canyon hikes sometimes. Welcome back Darwin.
Great to see another Darwin loadout video. I was hoping to get a sneak peek at your new Outcast jacket but I’m sure that will get its own video. Happy trails dude 🤙🏻
Please document as much hike footage as you can. I dont get to hike as much as I want so I live thru you and a handful of other hikers when I cant get out there
Did the TMB twice, will be nice to see it from your perspective. Nice to see you continue to use "older" gear instead of many constantly buying new stuff. As for the pronounciation, drop the c at the end of blanc and prolong the a a bit, then you'll sound propper french 😁
I enjoy watching your videos so much I’m watching this for the 3rd time. Each time I learn something new. It’s summer here in Texas so no hiking for me right now. I just finished a 3 week trip to the San Juan Mountains to hike up there in June.
The Aoka Tripod is hands down the best offering in that price and weight range. Love it. It’s my luxury item, as I really only take it to do night sky photography with my iPhone in the back country
nice vid, I quickly checked and apparently no one asked what kind of soft cover you put on your camera lens as I'm trying to protect mine better, enjoy a part of my country while on your trip as I did enjoy Arizona, a lot, a few years ago (Sedona, Frlgstaff)
It's actually a cheapo one that I got off of amazon. Bought a pack of them years ago. They don't last super long, but they do the trick! 😉👉 amzn.to/3NEyCFO
Good to see you back Darwin! Always enjoy your gear breakdowns and pack setups. Count me in for your new sun hoody too when it drops. I'm in the market for one. Been using EMS techwick tops as of late. Their T-shirts ,long sleeves and hoodies are pretty nice. Techwick comes in different thicknesses depending on time of year but... Great base layers. But mine are getting worn out and i need to try something new. Enjoy your Tour du mont. Bet thats gonna be fun! Work has me strapped. Short trips for me these days unfortunately. Still fun though. I have only covered a 1/4 of the Adirondacks. Love it up here! Look forward to more content. Stay safe man! Hike on!
very cool. I like that pack design, and such the merino hood is a brilliant idea too. We're on Tour Mont Blanc first week in September. have a great trip!
I like the Darwin/Evolve connection there. I would suggest putting a bit more money into a more unique logo. Something easily recognizable. The gear looks great!
Arrived home yesterday from completing the TMB. Absolutely stunning hike. Did it over 7 days and would definitely go again. Enjoy! They’ll probably be gone when you get there but beware of the snow bridges.
Hi Darwin I did the high route pyrenees (HRP) route last summer and I found I did not like using the huts- too many people in too little space for me...I can't imagine not bringing a tent and they always were fine with setting up near the hut...I did enjoy the meals and the bag lunches, and made some great friends. Hope you have a great time
One of my favourite hike the tour du mont blanc ! I've done it a few times, it's very confortable, I recommend doing it early September, just after the UTMB is when everyone is gone. You should also look at the GR20 in Corsica and GR10 (or GRP or GR11) in the Pyrenees. If you want to stay in the Alpes, there is so much to do, the Mercantour, the Queyras, the Écrins. Have fun my friend
The adapter for your US charger may not fit into Swiss electrical sockets. You may wish to buy a new charger in Europe (and leave the US adapter at home).
Needed new socks recently so bought 4 different models of Darn Tough (from very thick to thin, and different lengths). 3/4 of them were very slippery, and rotated around my forefoot (I got the correct size). And they all had loose threads and piling after one wash (Nikwax wool wash, on a cool / gentle wool cycle). I've owned merino products from loads of brands, and lots of merino socks, and DT were by far the worst. Returned them all for a refund. Bridgedale are much better, and some of the Smartwool ones too. DeFeet are also pretty good.
I wouldn’t go check the mailbox without a knife, (Or Leatherman). Being on trail without at least a Victorinox is contrary to everything that is me. Glad you’re back, btw!
I would recommend that your sun-hoodie had a full zipper. Your body temperature changes rapidly all the time - as you climb a slope, sunlight changes, wind changes. When you get hotter you unzip the upper part of zipper, but then it gets even hotter - you can't unzip the half-zipper anymore and have to take off the entire hoodie which might be too cold or too inappropriate (if you walk through a village in a conservative country). Often I am too lazy to take off and put on the hoodie time after time and do it too late when I am already too sweaty or too cold. With a full zipper I can manage my body temperature instantly and prevent sweating (which is even dangerous in colder environments).
I did the TMB in 2019. Pretty sure you don’t need your filter..there is clean water all around. I own one of those collapsible bottles, but don’t you have trouble filling it?
What Domestic or International Hiking Trips do you have planned for the rest of 2023???

Wow, thank you! ❤️
It’s been ages since I liked a youtube video. What can I say? Good to have your gear load out back!
Hi. Sorry for stating the obvious but just in case case, the European adapter at 5:55 won't work on the Swiss part of the tour. As someone who has hiked the TMB I’d highly recommend bringing your trekking poles if you’re able to! The elevation gain is no joke on this one!
I second this, poles were exteremely helpful on this trial when I hiked it last year.
Agreed!
In the video he says he is leaving his trekking pole behind AND picking up one once he is there. He briefly mentions that going sans pole allows him to not check his pack and instead his kit is carry-on. I assume it is also why he is not taking a knife.
Beyond excited for the sun hoodie-I’m a huge believer in merino wool everything
Same! I love Merino!
Always enjoy a video from Darwin ! Thanks for the upload !
Glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon enough! ❤️
Love the updates now and then. Great to see you back.
Thanks! More to come!
Ahh yeah! That'll do it, a good gear fix. 😉 Thanks for uploading, Darwin/Nick.
Nice video, as always. Also, nice way to share to us your new products. Pretty smart my friend! Have a good trip!
always enjoy your backpacking gear list for your upcoming adventures. different gear for different adventures. i like how you organize your gear
Awesome, thank you! ❤️
My husband, mom, and I are attempting the Long Trail this August. I've followed you for years and you've been a huge inspiration in picking gear and packing everything.
John Kelly just did the Long Trail in 4 days and change, so we normal humans should allow about 3 weeks!
Excellent! That should be a great hike!!! ❤️

Been loving your Video tips , tricks on Thruhiking for years. Thank you for Trekking on.
He's back! Loving all your bike packing and filming adventures but also lovely to see you on the hiking grind too sir
Same here!
Haven't backpacked in 3 years. Finally have an overnight backpacking trip scheduled for August at Point Reyes Sky Camp
I know that camp and those trails, it's fantastic and beautiful, i hope you see an elk.
Gear list fix! Kudos! Great job! Finally... your hoodie! I really needed this...thank you.
It's been a long time coming on the Hoody, but it's SOOOOO Good! 🤯
Glad I didn't unsubscribe when you quit YT last year, love your videos!
See... told ya I'd be back 😉❤️
Oh, very cool! So glad that you're back, Darwin! I really missed you and your vids, brother! 🤙

So happy for you @DarwinOnTheTrail! 🥳🎉💯

Good to see ya again!!
I'm heading to The White Mountains for a section hike!
Hello! Didn't think I'd be watching a new Darwin gear list video today so thanks for that!

Good to see you back brother
“ on your bike “ 🙂
Very nice. I want to try to get out there this summer. So this is great inspiration
Go for it! 🤙
Hiked the TMB in 2019. It's an nice trail and really cool to cross 3 countrys.

Last time I flew was able to put tent poles, stakes and trekking poles in a long heavy duty cardboard tube and carry them on. guess I was lucky
Hmmm... I've never tried that one. Lucky Indeed!

You should invite other RUclips hikers on to talk about mental health or just backpacking/hiking in general. We would love to see that.
Thank you for providing trusted advice.
Thanks For Watching!!! 🤙
Sooooo not quitting youtube then
jk darwin nice to see you again
The TMB is amazing! Enjoy the people and connections! ;)
Recommend: The Kungsladen is Sweden! It's one of my absolute favorite hikes! :)
Timely video for me. I'm doing the GR11 on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees at the beginning of August. Wish your sun hoodie came out earlier.
Wow what a cool way to explore the world. Congrats man that is a really awesome job
Thank you ☀️🌴
So why are you not using your very own EE/Evloved supply co Outcast jacket?
I didn't know you're in Arizona, I just hiked Mica mountain in Tucson ... Small world
I wouldn’t go check the mailbox without a knife, (Or Leatherman). Being on trail without at least a Victorinox is contrary to everything that is me. Glad you’re back, btw!
Congratulations!
Thanks! But, for what?
Or if the hoody sells well offer the next season version with a half zip and a full zip.
What happened to the Rowley ball. Since you showed in some years back I would rather go without almost anything else, but the ball is a main stay!
Sawyer MICRO squeeze now, eh? I'm gonna need a full review on this one! ;-)
Giving it a second chance after 4 years. So far it's been working great! 🤙
I did the TMB in 2019. Pretty sure you don’t need your filter..there is clean water all around. I own one of those collapsible bottles, but don’t you have trouble filling it?
Solid and to the point video! Just came across evolved supply, interested in a pack! Happy trails from another AZ local 🤙
