I am seriously LOVING this video series and your channel! You keep amazing me with your talent and skill! I am SUPER happy this costume came together so well, you're an inspiration to us all! Can not wait to see more from you guys, and also Zelda and Midna! Keep up the good work!
Hi there. I absolutely love your videos. Your puppies and you are charming and I make it a point to watch all your work. Don't put yourself down your sewing is fantastic. Benny does an awesome job on the painting. It looks so real. Keep making more videos I want to see those gorgeous dogs and your craft. Keep it up. Thank you and God bless you.
It always seems so complex, but when you break it down it's so much easier. You really inspire me to grow as a seamstress and cosplayer, thank you for all these tutorials.
Svetlana, I really want to say thanks for every hack you share with us. Your work is awesome and some ideas are very useful for every cosplay we do. Keep doing like this, I wish you all the best/
In your videos, it looks so easy. I think I can't even imagine how much time you two spends on cosplaying. It is trully amazing and you really make some awesome cosplays ! At this point, I just watch your videos for pleasure ^^
A big THANK YOU for always providing with useful and fun tutorials! I'm just starting to sew and you explained everything really well. I plan to study abroad in Germany and I just dream to see you on a convention.
Gosh you make it look so easy and fun, but I know that it's difficult xD There are so many steps and details and I love to look at the progress and how you move on to the next parts. I'm a beginner so I usually just improvise, I just have a basic knowledge about patterns and how to sew them but there's so much more I have to learn haha.
Awesome video! I have just bought my very first sewing machine and I don't really know how to start but this video is very inspiring to me. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us :D
Yoo Kamui thanks a lot!!!! thanks to your books i came to open my own cosplay store in Brazil, thank you so much!!!! And my cosplay ,for the huge anime event here, i'll go with my Marine soldier Armor from Warhammer 4k ^^
Midna is so cute! :D It's nice seeing an HD video of her apart from Instagram. As someone who only makes armor cosplay and doesn't know how to sew, this was really fun to watch. If you get quite good at it you should consider writing a cosplay sewing book. I'd love to learn. ;) I have a golden retriever, but Corgis are so very cute so I wouldn't mind having one.
I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all finished! I assume you'll be wearing it to the fan festival in Germany - I hope you have fun there!!! I'm so excited for Stormblood :D
I have been trying to recreate the coat pattern you did here. Which of the styles of the patterns did you combine to create your pattern? Or do you have any tips? Thank you for making this video it has been a big help!
OMG, thanks to your video I just realised how to do the lining for my vest (I think I'm gonna die) (but your coat is really wonderfull and it give me motivation to work on my vest > < ) (and yay, more corgiiiii)
thanks a lot for the tutorial !!!! it is amazing to see how you made all the details on the coat. I would suggest instead of using metal wires for the coat to use horsebraid, it is more predictable and will give better shape :) (I don't know if suggestions are welcome though Dx you do such amazing work already !)
Ha Ha. I figured. For future reference tho, when using iron on adhesive, you should press not iron the fabric. Ironing can potentially warp your fabric because it moves the glue around. This could end up making your garment not hang properly on the body. Luckily, your coat looks pretty good. Look forward to seeing more form you. Cheers!
You make it sooooo much easier to understand! May I know what material is the lining? Is it a specific material or just a generic material that's something like interfacing? Because I like how it gives stiffness to the costume Thank you for posting these videos
I dont know if this is creepy or not but i rewatch all of your vids when im bored because it gives me joy adn lits a fire under my butt to start to work! But that wasnt what i wanted to say. I wanted to say that im a graduated seamstress and i see a lot of "'flaws" (i know that this is a very old video and idk if your sewing skills has leveled up, if they have or simply you dont care you dont have to listen to my advice that i only give with love because i really like you as an artist!) Lets start w the arms, i saw that you pulled the curved edge of the arms wayyy further up on the shoulder than it would. This is very common to do becuase the arm doesnt fit??? Its suppose not to fit because you shall sew in a thread on the arm curve adn then pull the string together so the arm becomes "ruffled" at the cruve. Why you may ask? Its because so the arm has more of a poof in it and shall stand out more on your shoulder. When you wrinkle the arm curve you shall wrinkle it as much as possible so the whole arm AND the curve shall fit into the arm hole in your coat. This is very hard adn is the most tidiest thing to do, thats why i hate it. When you sew the seam on the arm curve it shall be on the biggest stitches (meaning the seams shall be far away from eachother) and you shall NOT back stitch when you start or when you end. If you do you cant pull the strings. This seam shall both be applied to your real arm and your lining arm. The seam shall be applied throughout half of your top arm curve (Meaning from the middle mark in the middle of your arm to halfway down on your arm curve on both left and right side of your arm) Im sorry if im not taking this in order and if it doest make any sense :/// Now to your whole coat body and lining for your coat. I can understand that hand stitching is relaxing but its also very time consuming so if you prefer the machine or dont have much time this is a great tip id say ^^ (THO is still requires some hand stitching!). So you do the exact same thing (you sew another coat but in lining) but instead of sewing it on wrong side to wrong side you sew it right side to right side instead, meaning all your nasty seams is visible to the eye! Trust me on this one. First of all you shall have a full coat with arms sewn on adn all the little details on your coat (if you dont want the details to be sewn onto the lining as well) Then you shall have a full lining coat as well with arms sewn on. When this is done you shall pin nice side to nice side meaning pin your coat onto your lining coat so the ugly side is seen by your eye. Pull your lining arm (or coat arm through your other arm it doesnt matter) just pull some arm through the other arm so youve easy access to both arms. Then after that you shall start to sew at the bottom of of your coat to the other bottom of your coat. I dont know how to explain this but you shall NOT sew your bottom end! (the part that almost touches the floor) And you shall NOT sew your arms close either because if you do sew some of those two close you cant turn your coat inside out. Trust me i did that and i got to rip apart my whole coat.... Just sew together everything else and when youve done that you turn your coat inside out adn there you have it. A beautiful coat w nice lining. And yes youve guess it.You shall hand sew the arm close and or hand/machine sew the bottom of your coat close. This was just tips! I do not want to offend your sewing skills. I think youre great at what youre doing and i just wanted to give you some tips on how your work can maybe be a little easier c: If you dont understand i can put up pictures on my IG and tag you so you understand? I dont want to pray on your life, this was just a suggestion
Really nice! Loved the coat weights to keep it down and stabilized! For the "Golden Fabric" you mention using, it looks heavier than a satin or cotton, do you know the exact name what type of fabric that is? (Or maybe a more specific name type?) Thanks!
I love these kinds of videos! They're so informative and you're just so cute with your puppets regardless. The coat looks incredible and it looks like it will old up to quite a bit :) How did your sewing machine hold up to the increasing thickness of the coat(especially when you had to sew the sleeves to the coat itself)?
you did an amazing job for not having been comfortable with the sewing machine lol-- my question is with cosplays like this one how do keep from sweating to death lolol i know that jacket was hot!
KamuiCosplay Das glaube ich dir :) Ich hab ein Dachzimmer in dem es zu eng und entweder viel zu heiß oder viel zu kalt ist :D Ich hoffe, das ändert sich, wenn ich mal allein wohne.
You make it look so easy xD i wanna make a coat/jacker similar like that i guess, because i want to cosplay for the first time ever (i dunno if i canthis year tho with the virus and stuff) but anyway i do really wanna cosplay and the character i want to dress up as is Captain Amelia from treasure planet. So how would you recomend i do the pattern for the coat specifically from scratch, due to the fact i dont have any coat patterns at the moment, but i really wanna try and make it still lol also i do know just the basic basic of sewing because i did took sewing class YEARS AGO almost 7 years now and i lost track and havent practice as much jaja so i really wanna have the basic idea of how to make a pattern for the costume i wanna do so i can then refresh my memory xD, since i started taking art classes because i also wanna be an animator someday, and also because of work i havent been as active with sewing so yea thats why i wanna know how you would do it jaja Please and thanks and love your videos.
Watching you make this cosplay is really making me wish I could make my White Mage character! I don't know how to sew though. Do you have any tips for learning?
Hmmm... just do it? You only learn if you sit down and try for yourself. if it doesn't work, you look up solutions and get better. Then you just repeat that process until you can make everything. ;) I do have a sewing book for beginners in my shop if you need help getting started: www.kamuicosplay.com/product/sewingforbeginners/
Mei, start with a small project like a pillow case and work your way up to harder things. Also, you might want to try an upcycled project, where you take an old item from a thrift store or your own closet, take it apart and put it back together again adding your own details. You Tube is an awesome resource for tutorials and project ideas. Sewing is a skill that anyone can learn with practice :)
Thank you for the tips!!!! I'm hoping to try and learn sometime this year! I love crocheting (so much so that I started my own business) so I think I would enjoy sewing if I could just get started!
O boy.... i want a signed cart so MUCH but i cant......... my mom says its a waste of money. and also the sombra gun is on my list. if i ever see you, i will fangirl SO BAD! (corgis4life)
Belleplaysgames My Mom did that when I was younger, so I feel ya 😉 You and she just have different priorities. I don't think that things that bring you joy are a waste of money... but you do have to make sure to be responsible with the money, too. Now that I'm an adult I have to be my own "mom" when it comes to this stuff. I have a budget, and if I want something kind of frivolous I have to make a budget category and not buy it until I have the funds... of course, sometimes I cheat and I regret it 😅 Oi. It's times like these I WISH I still lived with my mom and she could stem my insatiable desire for random stuff!
I love love love your videos. That coat looks amazing and I, as always, am blown away by your talents and attention to details. Totally inspired to go create now. Did you actually get another corgi?
All the yes omgg I love your skills I can use this on a project I plan doing later this year I would of never thought of Ironing fabric on with uh? The glue? I put a project on hold back in October because I was nothing was working with fabric glue... I thought I would choose to sew on the patterns I cut out instead... but the glue was showing threw on the front side which really annoyed me. Thanks for another helpful tutorial
+SammehStarz The german iron on product is called Vliesofix. There is also a similar USA product but the name escapes me at the moment. Maybe someone else knows it?
Oh man. This is so detailed and beautiful! Though, I do have a question. Why would you use aluminum wire in the bottom of the coat, instead of something like Horsehair Braid? Did you just need something super strong?
It's a bit pricey, but its some magical stuff! it's like a mesh ribbon made from woven wire, and you sew it on like bias tape. It adds little bulk, and it's super strong. (I use it a lot when making renaissance gowns.) Regardless, this costume is glorious.
Sadly that Burda Missess' pattern for the dress (6744) is no longer in print, I've been trying to find it and it's not turning up anywhere! D: (as a heads up for anyone looking to recreate this costume)
It looks awesome, lots of detail. I'm new to this, sort of, I've had tailors make my costumes but too expensive, I figured it be more fun to make them myself. While my current project is simple, I have one issue. The boots that my costume requires are 300$! No way I'm paying that, do you have any tips or refrences on how to make my own boots/shoes?
and here we have the magnificent kamui...skilled at her craft and drowning in corgis.
+Zel Kareel Drowning in corgis... I like the sound of that...
You both are my heroes. Beautiful family, smart husband, talented cosplayer and happy mom of 2 (or 3?) dogs. You guys set my life goals.
The talent you two have is truly amazing
I am about to start a White Mage jacket for a cosplay I am doing. This game me some great ideas! Thank you!

How on earth can you spend so much time and energy doing that?? The dedication is freakin mind boggling.

Of course! Every first step is intimidating but you only get better if you try and fail first :)
Corgis are amazing yet so individual personality to each yet they love to be part of a family while not minding being alone for a time if need be.
Finished product looks amazing
Stunning, this is something i would love to wear day to day lol
Yoo Kamui thanks a lot!!!! thanks to your books i came to open my own cosplay store in Brazil, thank you so much!!!!

Ironing on the lining is sooooo smart!!!
I’m trying to make a handmade KAITO cosplay and this video is a great base!
Kaito momota from dr3?

nice job you guys are awesome and I love your adorable dogs
wow just wow 😍
thanks a lot for the tutorial !!!!
it is amazing to see how you made all the details on the coat. I would suggest instead of using metal wires for the coat to use horsebraid, it is more predictable and will give better shape :) (I don't know if suggestions are welcome though Dx you do such amazing work already !)
Yes, I've heard that before, haha. Never knew what that was before honestly but I'm going to try it out next time! :)
Corgis! Yay!
OMG THE TRANSITION FROM YOUR DOGS TO THE BOOKS
Well done! I always think a cosplayer should have both sewing and prop making skill, and you ace both. :D
Haha, thank you! I'm not sure about acing it though ;)
I will sew for you Svetlana! :)

May I know what material is the lining? Is it a specific material or just a generic material that's something like interfacing? Because I like how it gives stiffness to the costume

yay ty who are you more likely to do
Thanks for the tips on the coat! I’m working on a cosplay and her coat kind of had a shape to it. I didn’t think of wire and some weight!! Thanks !😭😭
Instead of those you can also use "horsehair" trim (or braid or ribbon--horsehair is the key word) it is intended for this type of floaty looking hems

Thanks for the help ^^ I live in The Netherlands though, 5-10 minutes away from Germany so if I can't find it here I'll go there haha
omg love it!
Almost forgot there is also other matreials than foam :D
TWO PUPPERS!!
Perfect, please do Mei year of the rooster red skin ❤️
Oh man. This is so detailed and beautiful!
Though, I do have a question.
Why would you use aluminum wire in the bottom of the coat, instead of something like Horsehair Braid? Did you just need something super strong?
I've actually never heard of Horsehair Braid. I needed something that was strong and that I could bend in shape.
It's a bit pricey, but its some magical stuff! it's like a mesh ribbon made from woven wire, and you sew it on like bias tape. It adds little bulk, and it's super strong. (I use it a lot when making renaissance gowns.)
Regardless, this costume is glorious.
Never mind I see you already have a video about it, thanks.
Was gonna say that! :) Hope it helps!
