Dream is more powerful now because he absorbed back all of the power he put into making the ruby. When John broke it last episode, the power went back to him.

Death has the power of ;"Nigh-Omnipresence"- present in all places at all times, Omniscience - knows information pertaining to upcoming deaths and births, and Immortality as well as granting it if she wishes (Hob Gadling).

You didn't forget anything. In the comics, the tavern wasn't bought out and closed down, and Dream doesn't miss his 1989 appointment with Hob.

The comic was published in 1989 so for this adaptation which is set in 2022 they had to make some adjustments. Still works.

@@SoonLeeNZ It's so funny that 1989 is now a period piece just like the other 89's. That must feel so weird for Neil Gaiman lol. It worked out wonderfully though.

17:49 Yeah this is accurate levels of drama queen, I think he knocked the table over on the way out in the comic lol. "HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST I'M LONELY!!!!!"

I also have a big thing for immortality tropes (I blame Heinlein, of whom I read far too much at an impressionable age), and Hob's scenes were always some of my favorite parts of Sandman. Hob Gadling is up there with Methos and Jack Harkness in my book.

Neil always made clear that the endless could appear as what ever they wanted to look like. Death in the comics was based on a supermodel that the artist knew. The actress that played Death nailed the characteristics and dialogue from the graphic novel. The only thing that was different was her skin tone, tattoo and the top hat. As a fan, death not having her iconic top hat wasn't really a big deal.

I'm late to the party again, oh well.
I actually thought about you when I first watched this episode back in August, wondering how you were going to react to the crib scene, given your recent Uncle-hood. Hiding your face, then applauding? Better than I expected, as you usually are, and as Hob said. :)
This episode actually has a small part of a third issue, when Death talks about putting "chairs on the tables" when the universe ends. It's from the "Facade" issue, where Death "helps" the superhero Element Girl. (I think I mentioned how this adaptation is completely separate from the DC Universe, so no superheroes or supervillains, which suggests we will not see that issue in this series.) That issue is part of the "Dream Country" collection, which includes the "Thousand Cats" and "Calliope" issues, which form the "secret" 11th episode. (And if that's a spoiler for you, don't wait six months before posting. :P)
("Facade" also answers your question about aliens. Death says: "In west Africa a small village is being massacred by mercenaries, in pay of their own government. I'm there. In the farthest reaches of a distant galaxy, a planet is being ripped apart by internal stresses; the planet was the home of many crystal intelligences, calm and fine and beautiful. I am _there_ as well. I'm in all those places, and I'm also here, talking to you." People, worlds, suns, planes of existence - when they die, she's there.)
You didn't comment on Jenna Coleman returning as Lady Johanna, the ancestor of the Johanna Constantine we saw in episode 3. As Dream mentions to Hob, we'll see how she helps Dream in a future episode, I expect. In fact, I believe we'll see Johanna as a composite character in the "Game of You" collection storyline, which should be part of season 2, if they continue with two collections per season. (It would join with "Season of Mists", which they tease at the end of the 10th episode.)
Thanks, Joe. Looking forward to the next reaction.

Dracula Untold isn't great but it's ok enough, plus you get to watch Charles Dance as a vampire. 😅

I saw Dance's last name twice and thought I was gonna get to see Charles Dance dance as a vampire and now I'm disappointed that won't happen.
