@@gentrycustomknives8008 that's great to hear..your content on YT is some of the best..I have since watching your channel got setup for making blades as well..Cherry picked some key pieces of equipment that thus far has been great..Housemade 2x72 grinder, Knife dogs kiln by Paragon, HR-150A Rockwell hardness tester, dental lab benchtop blast cabinet..plus a slew of other equipment..as you know it never ends..Japanese Tsubosan hand files are incredibly nice vs any Chinesium flavored files..
Question What angle for the gut hook. Good video, and thanks as I've found gut hook as a challenge. The width of the blade was my problem Nice finish sharpening tip. Thanks
Good to see you're back! Been learning a lot from your channel. I've made a handful of kydex sheath and given a couple to relatives. They love it, thanks to you! Btw, do you have a store where I can check out your finished knife product? God bless!
This was a very helpful video on how to make a gut hook but when you start sharpening it with the sandpaper wrapped around the round file wouldn't it be faster if you used a file or rod or something that's closer to the size of the grind that's already there rather than have to move the file around inside of it to sharpen it all the way around the diameter?
I have a friend that would like to see about a knife for his son. Yet, all he can find is your link for sponsorship. How can he get a look at what you have to offer?
I have been in the meat industry most of my life. butchers dont use a gut hook on a knife. my advise it dont put a gut hook on any knife. I was part of an operation that did 1000 hogs a day. all done with a 6 inch boning knife and no gut hook.
and then the gut hook gets dull and you have to get a rod with differnt grits to get in there and sharpen them that most guys dont have. @@gentrycustomknives8008
I agree with you, on a deer/moose I use two fingers under the skin and the tip of the knife, easy. I think Gentry's gut hook is too far from the tip of the knife and the swedged tip may cut into the gut while using the hook?
Wow..glad you are back..enjoy your content..figured after 3 months you weren't coming back..lol
I’m here for good lol just been building the new house and shop so I don’t have much time left over! I’ll be posting a lot this winter!

What angle for the gut hook.
Good video, and thanks as I've found gut hook as a challenge. The width of the blade was my problem
Nice finish sharpening tip.
Thanks
I’m not sure on that exactly.

As a hunter I really dislike gut hooks, but I love having seat belt cutters on my knives.

Possibly
How many belts do you use for a knife? or how many knives can you make out of 1 belt?
I burn through alot lol
Unrelated. What size contact wheel do you use for hollow grinds?
I have a 10” and 8”
@@gentrycustomknives8008 so you mainly do flat or hollow grinds?

Some people prefer them still!

yes, using your fingers behind the blade is exactly the way I do it.@@gordonolafson5806
