Thank you so much for posting this! It really helps me create an efficient workflow. I've avoided sessions until now, but I have some major projects coming up where I will need to use tethering, and this is very helpful. If there was one tiny little suggestion I could make, most of the tutorials I see are done on a Mac computer instead of windows. I know most things are very similar, but there are sometimes a few minor differences that makes things a little confusing for us that are total newbies, so a little more emphasis on windows would be greatly appreciated. As I delve deeper into C1, it just keeps getting better. It is truly the most superior program available. Thanks for posting this!
WOW huge amount of excellent information that I have been avoiding learning because to complicated. This video with excellent instructions just made it easier. Thank You.
Hi,is there a problem with live view on a fuji xt2? When shooting from the live view screen my camera and C1 freezes. I have to turn my camera off, disconnect the usb cable and reconnect it.
Hi Felix, There shouldn't be any problems, as the camera is fully supported for tethering and live view. Is there a memory card in the camera while you're trying to use Live View + are there images on that memory card? Some cameras will work while having a card in, but some won't. If the problem continues occurring, please reach out to our tech support here captureone.co/3w Beatrise, Capture One
great video ! Coming from Lightroom classic, very helpful to have covered session, export,... on same tuto. perhaps one topic missing is the sharpness checking with loupe vs focus window, focus map. also how we can re-edit later some pictures taken in a session instead of a catalog.
Great session. I'm thinking about switching from lightroom and these streams are really giving me the right idea of how powerful is C1. Quite frustrating btw the limitations that a Sony camera has on the software. Any chance we could have an update about Sony cameras? Thanks!
@@CaptureOne I'm thinking about what a Sony camera can't do in a live view session with the focus (can't use the very useful arrows for fixing it) or the metering mode, which I see but it's grey, so not usable... and also the + & - buttons instead of the complete grid of choices... all these things can improve a lot the user experience during a session.
thanks to you for your kind answers. Unfortunately, the firmware of my camera (Sony a7RM2) is already updated (4.01 released in 2019). I don't think there will be another one anytime soon. Thanks anyway. Capture One is still a very valid software even so, btw.
i am surprised we can't use focus arrows for sony a7rv. is it same problem for Sony image edge software ? I have seen tethertools smart shooter 4 tuto and they did focus mapping shooting (not sure it was a sony) and sent all images in helicon focus. so it seems possible to tune focus, isn't it ?
OK, 4 months on maybe you have figured it out, but I have been using Image Edge's Remote part of the trio of modules. I think I've been using it for two years and for my A7III it does control the focus that way, as well as using the AF button on the software to go that way. Clicking a mouse on those 3 Left and 3 Right focus arrows was getting tedious so what I do for a series of focus stacking shots is I set the A7III to Manual Focus and turn the lens on the ring while watching the Peaking highlights on the camera's back panel. The peaking marks don't show on the tethered computer monitor. Going that route also has the monitor zooming in to where ever the focus box is like on the camera so I can really really get sharp into small areas, looking on my 32" monitor as I pick spots on product to get focus points covering the depth of the product adequately. If Auto Focus in Edge Remote is doing a good job for the circumstances I will use it, sure. I take the first shot, wait for a small delay my setup has then I can hover my mouse cursor and click over the next spot on the product I want to focus on precisely. That's done whether I focus with the lens ring in Manual or tapping AF on the software. The series of shots to stack are brought into Photoshop as a separate task.
Great session. One question...Can I add folders at the level of your "Shot 1" in real time? Say I'm doing Headshots of ten people and want a folder for each person, Can I just add a folder with their names, "John Smith" and "Heather Jones" as I learn their names as I'm photographing? I assume I could also change the name from "Shot 1" to a person's name.
Hi Marty. Yes, absolutely. So let's say you made a template with 20 folders (Shot 1, Shot 2... etc) you could rename those on the fly as you learnt their names. At least this way the folder is setup and added as a favourite. Or you can hit the + button in Session Favourites and just make a new one from there.
@David - I missed the live broadcast, but had I been online then, my question / ask would have been about updating or adding "Next Capture Adjustments" such ICC profiles. I would have liked to get more information about making these specific adjustments.
HI JD. Not much to say about the ICC options. It's just if you have switched up a different ICC profile in Base Characteristics and you want to continue to use that.
When I disconnect my Camera to lens swap, I then plug back in and Capture One does not pick up camera. have to keep turning camera off and on, plug/unplug to eventual pick up. I have used multiple different tether tool cords. Have Canon secure tether tool. Have taken out memory cards from camera, have tried different ports on laptop. Still happens all the time, day in day out.
Hi Sophie, I'm sorry to hear this has been happening. Are you using an Apple silicon based Mac on macOS 13? If yes, we're aware of this issue and have created a message with more information about it here support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/9766558409757-Mac-Camera-sometimes-doesn-t-reconnect-when-using-Apple-silicon-based-Macs-on-macOS-13
I keep getting a warning when shooting RAW. Canon R6M2. It says "failed renaming captured file". The raw shows up in the capture folder with a "~" There's no problem when transferring a jpg, and the JPG also renames as expected. Any thoughts?
Sad development indeed. I switched over to Capture One back in 2017 with an XT2 purchase from the last perpetual license they offered for Lightroom. It had a lot going for them for my purposes at the time. Adobe had just recently gone to the subscription model which was a no no out of principle; I found the color editing and later layers and intelligent masking to be great for the type of editing I resort to; and they had great tutorials and webinars on RUclips. I probably upgraded every other year on average. I currently have the 22 where my XT5 files seem to work fine in, but couldn’t find a single meaningful update to warrant getting the 23. Good news is this setup will last me for at least handful of years. I also use M10 Monochrom which work fine in the 22 version. I’d imagine in the next handful of years, new players will step up to disrupt the landscape.
Finally a comprehensive (and well-done) tutorial on tethering! Thank you David!
Thank you for your feedback!
Just stubbled across this while trying to brush up on Capture One ahead of a shoot this week - so helpful and informative! Thank you David!

Just set it up as a wireless connection and connect via ethernet cable.

How come you are shooting in RAW. I have a Sony a7RV and it only shoots JPG. Where am I wrong, or does it not work? Otherwise great video.
