I'd first heard Whitney's version and loved it. Years after I heard Annie's version and was amazed, I love this version much more. Whitney's version is more positive, lyrics carry more positive messages and even sadder lines are sung in a joyful manner. These make that version somehow unnatural, it becames something like a silly friend giving depressed you advices "to be positive, to believe in yourself blah blah". But Annie's version have a lot of sadness, hurt, depression in it, it makes you feel all the hurt and sadness, hopelessness inside, then it lifts you up from inside, makes you feel the power and hope in you and does this without "inspirational" shouting and supportive screaming, it speaks to you calmly like your inner voice ("I've got the will to guide me Just where I want to go").
@@ziggyvusal totally agree with you. I prefer the original version much better. I felt Whitney's version was not very heartfelt whereas Annie's version was. I understand why Annie gave this song to Whitney because Whitney could do something good with it but I was not impressed with Whitney's effort for this song.

Both artists are so brilliant! I would have loved for these two ladies to work together more often. I Think it would have been good for Whitney too. She was very unhappy..Annie sure could have helped her.
Thanks Annie for giving the song to Whitney..she gave life to this song..it is my personal BEST of Whitney..to see her come alive when she sing it is AMAZING!!!!!!!
I love both versions of this song. Sang by two of my favourite female singers. Whitney and Annie. I had the pleasure of meeting Annie in Watford. I also met Whitney in Vegas back in 2007. Almost fainted on both occasions.
Annie Lennox is a Game Changer && a Genius. but Whitney's version of this for me is just.. :O !! That spiritual, gospel, feeling and energy she gives, is like no Other (: #SoUplifting

@youturbia1 Lol... Thank you for all your nice comments. I sure appreciate them. Awesome Annie indeed! Have a great weekend my PT. Peace and love to you.
Hello Christine. This song is contagious! I love this song, it is from my favorite album of all time. Most people are familiar with Whitney's version, but you know which one I prefer. I wish you much happiness and good health this year.
Back in the day, I recall myself quite distinctly reading through the “THANK YOU” notes on Whitney Houston's «The Preacher's Wife» album leaflet, taking for granted that Mrs. Lennox name would -no doubt- show up at any moment... 🙄😒 I can't help but wonder how much it would have costed to add another name to that list. 🤨

I just see why the song didn't work for Annie Lennox and was thankfully refined beautifully for Whitney Houston for The Preacher's Wife in 1996. Hearing what it was going to be for Annie Lennox would've been a throwback to The Eurythmics days.

The Two Versions, Beautiful 👍

Annie & Whitney 👏👏👏

Same both are fab also great that Annie sang backing vocals for Whitney on her cover of it.
Excellent 🎉
I wish Annie would record a soul album. She is so super talented
Annie is such a great soul
This is and has always been my favorite Annie song. It was a shame Whitney left so many lyrics out. This song keeps me going when I need strength.
One of my favorite Annie songs love it especially because of the lyrics
I'm a big fan of this lady. Love Ms. Annie Lennox. I prefer this more than the remake by Whitney.
Beautiful version
*_Great Song. Greetings from Germany/Bavaria:_*

Love Both Annie & Whytney Singing It... But Annie Is A Scotts Lassie So Im Going With Annie. Cuz Scotts Lassies Stick Together. Haha. 😀😀
Scots, not Scotts.
Annie sang backing vocals on Whitneys version both songs are amazing both fantastic singers legends and Divas !
Love it! :D
