  • Watch That Uncertain Feeling (1941) Full Movie on The Film Detective. Merle Oberon, Melvyn Douglas, and Burgess Meredith star in this classic comedy from three time Oscar nominee Ernst Lubitsch (Ninotchka, To Be Or Not To Be). Oberon plays a woman who visits a psychoanalyst to cure her hiccups. From there, in a manner that is pure Lubitsch, she realizes that she’s fallen out of love with her husband. When she becomes interested in a neurotic pianist, it seems her marriage is truly doomed. But in a funny way...
    Director: Ernst Lubitsch
Writers: Donald Ogden Stewart, Walter Reisch
Starring: Merle Oberon, Melvyn Douglas, Burgess Meredith

Scripts often had unique twists and storylines in those days. A very risqué sort of script for a comedy. Loved it! And Melvyn Douglas was always gorgeous in romantic comedies. A fabulous era for films.

Melvin could deliver a comedic line like no one else ! He was mischievous (my weakness) 😳

Romantic comedy at its very best! Loved this movie! Melvyn Douglas and Merle Oberon and Burgess Meredith! What a trio-- menage a trois done tastefully! Those were the days! Hollywood's golden era!

Great movie!!! I've always been a fan of both Merle Oberon, because of "Wuthering Heights" and Melvin Douglas for his dry sense of humor. This was a great pairing. Thanks for sharing!

This is my third Melvyn Douglas movie in a row and I've laughed -- really laughed-- at all of them... I didn't expect them to be so funny-- the first two were the Reardon Private Detectives series, the first with Joan Blondell, the second with Virginia Bruce (the funniest one). Hope to see more of these. Thanks so much for posting!

See "Too Many Husbands", "Good Girls go to Paris", "Theodora goes wild", "Hud", "The Vampire Bat". I think he was comedic genius.

i've also watched the 2 detective stories. he's always great. lightweight but fun. i did, however, think the blondell was far superior. bruce played the part annoyingly stupid, and unnecessary

    • @lopa2828
      @lopa2828 3 года назад +2

@@danielstanwyck2812 yes I agree with you whole heartedly. Blondell had natural comic senses that shone on her every picture. Bruce was not a comic actress so the attempts seemed very silly, but at least she tried. Everyone was not Joan Blondell, Irene Dunne or Rosalind Russell.

I think the funniest aspect of this story is that Merle’s character even considers being unhappy with her adorable husband !
      How ridiculous was that?!
My gosh. Many people are not appreciative of their wonderful spouses. If you’re lucky enough to be married to your dream guy, DON’T get bored or unappreciative.
Love him to pieces!! The premise was absurd!

The dress! Yes, risqué indeed but I think there was sheer fabric, perhaps voile, to give the illusion of bare skin. But even the suggestion of a neckline plunging to the waist in 1941 is shocking.

    56:20 is too funny!
Lawyer: "Now, about the cause for divorce: according to New York state law, there must be a correspondent."
Mrs. Baker: "Oh, there must be some less embarrassing way?!"
Lawyer: "Not in New York." 😅

Finished watching She Married Her Boss starring Melvin Douglas as the husband, and I be darn! He walks in in this movie and it’s Mr. Barclay all over again in his looks, manners and the way he speak to, not with his wife!!

Very funny movie indeed. Mr. Douglas was comedic genius and he knew how to make audience laugh too well. However Miss Oberon was funny here. The the other man with "fui" was quite annoyingly hilarious. Sorry I don't know his name. Even the doctor, with the "Aha", was also very funny.

Burgess Meredith married the lovely Paulette Goddard. He is short and often short men are very agressive to compensate- a Napoleon complex. Ava Gardner married Mickey Rooney and later said it was because he wouldn't leave her alone. He also was the biggest star on the lot at that time!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this fun movie. However, we were both a bit distracted by the slightly horizontally stretched image.
This gives the actors a somewhat shortish, dumpy appearance. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS AGAIN😉.

He is not classically handsome, but when you see him in his many roles, it's obvious that he was extremely talented.

Honestly, though I've watched golden era hollywood films for over 10 years to feel certain kinds of plotlines, I have to say Burgess Meredith's absurdized artist persona thru his own kind of male ego whose opportunism is contrasted for wackyness around commercial tycoon park avenue dinners and the one-liner view of abstract art, I say I prefer that ego, more morally coherent to me than Melvyn Douglas' self projecting "keeks" onto Merle Oberon's hiccuping stomach gone to psychoanalysis --they're both gone to painting themselves on her but I still emit a wahh at her going back to the keeks. Maybe I'm frazzled for modern art not as a punch line, I saw my own little snowglobe in Miss Oberon's scalloping Irene costumes (I only ever kept observing how the lines in her looks are so much convexing and contracting so that the floriating re entering scalloping lines, either on her sleeve line or neckline or collarline reimagines it , I kept looking at the circles rosily,) , despite her own Park Avenue scent of self projecting by being equally "amused" at the therapy awaiting Individualist "fue-ing" Alexander as her inconsiderate husband poking her in the stomach whenever he liked, maybe because I'd like to think she'd spread out in her black mesh head pieces that seem more webby than the rest to get some metropolitan empathetic engagement.
